|10 hours 17 min ago||Growing up in the Detroit area in the 60's, I can remember||
seeing some games with him. Tragically, he died at age 40 shortly after retiring from the NHL. Evidently, he and former teammate Ron Stewart, who were rooming together, got into an argument over some expenses. And they were started scuffling, half-horsing around and Terry was injured accidently falling on Stewart's knee causing some internal injuries. Several operations later, he finally died from a pulmonary embolism.
EDIT: His name is spelled "Sawchuk", not Sawchuck as in the OP.

return this season, I just can't see it happening. Running is one thing, but if he said he was shooting, dribbling, and playing some light b-ball, I'd be a lot more optimistic. He should NOT return unless he can play effectively without a signifiant risk of re-injuring his back. Anything short of that, and I say, don't play him.

As the last living grandchild of Henry Ford, WCF was a big part of the Ford family legacy in Detroit for many years. I really hope the Ford family continues to own the Lions. I think Bill Jr. would do a very good job running the team if he were interested. Time will tell.
|2 days 10 hours ago||A 2 seed is the best we can even hope for||
But I'm happy with either a 2 or 3 certainly. It's so great now compared to the not so distant past when we'd be either outside looking in or praying for a tournament berth to fall in our laps. Last year's run was like a dream and very unexpected given our youth. It will be fun to see what happens this year.

for a number of reasons. But, we can't lose to a team this lousy at home on Senior Day.

The team leadership award is named after him, and he's a former team captain from around the time I was a student there (1978-1982). This was one of the dark periods of Michigan basketball. The end of the Johnny Orr reign and beginning of Bill Frieder's. But Garner was a mainstay of the team (along with Mike McGee) during this time.
|4 days 12 hours ago||Good point||
Other than telling guys never to run away from the line of scrimmage or stop running sideways in a vain hope of turning the corner, negative plays are mostly a by-product of poor play selection/scheme, lack of fundamental skills, the other team being better, and poor execution - or a combination thereof.
|5 days 11 hours ago||As an old fart, I definitely||
feel winning the B1G regular season title is much more significant. It requires playing at a high level over a much longer period, dedication, consistency, and toughness while winning on the road as well as at home. The tournament has it's purpose I suppose, but I will always look at our outright conference title as THE big accomplishment this year - unless we win the NC of course.
|5 days 14 hours ago||I was in graduate B-school||
My wife and I had season football and basketball tickets that year. What a lot of fun. Crisler was a much different environment in those days. Much darker light-wise and not nearly as noisy for the most part. I once saw some guy in the blue seats reading the NY Times during a game. We were sitting in the blue seats behind the basket opposite the tunnel side, and actually were one of the loudest sections most of the time. The center court areas were loaded with old people who sat on their hands the entire game. After the Ohio State game ended late in the season, our section had cheered so loud, that Bill Frieder came up into the stands and thanked us - shaking a lot of hands including mine. Pretty neat of him to do that.
|5 days 17 hours ago||I was there too||
As a grad student, I was able to get seats for my wife and I in the blue seats behind one of the baskets. I'll never forget that game. Afterwards, we decided to go to Thano's Lamplighter to celebrate. Little did we know the team liked to frequent that restaurant too. Sure enough, a short time after we were there, a bunch of the players and coaches came in - Tarpley, Relford, Henderson, a young Glen Rice, and Bill Frieder and Steve Fisher also. When I left I was able to congratulate Coach Frieder and shake his hand.
Interesting thing about the Knight interview was how he critiqued the Michigan team. You don't see coaches doing that today ever. But I think he was spot on in his comments.

The last title. This one is just as sweet. Go Blue!
|6 days 5 hours ago||Impressive game for Michigan so far||
Outright title is pretty much in the bag now.
|6 days 10 hours ago||I wonder if they still let football players at U-M||
play IM basketball. Maybe they don't want them to due to injury risk. I remember when I was a student, some of the football players would really tear up the IM league.
|6 days 10 hours ago||I really liked the Forde article on Calipari||
Kentucky fans and Calipari deserve each other. The last two seasons have exposed the fallacy in Calipari's "system" and his real coaching ability. Winning with mostly freshmen is extremely difficult to say the least, even if they're extremely talented. But, things like letting the players decide when they go in and out are head scratchers.
|6 days 12 hours ago||Too bad for Jason, but I hope||
he finds a new team quickly. But even if he doesn't, he's had a very good NFL career and he would be getting out while he's still healthy.
|6 days 12 hours ago||I like the guy talking on the huge 80's cell phone||
I wonder if Rita had some role in making this video. Either way, it's a lot better than the last hokey promo video they did for Arizona football.
|6 days 13 hours ago||You just reminded me of||
my junior high typing class (yes I AM that old). I still remember the day our clueless teacher started class by announcing "today we're going to learn how to type the 'e' and 'i' letters so we're going to be using these two fingers". Of course he held up both his hands with his middle fingers extended which busted up the whole class.
|6 days 13 hours ago||It's good to see Coach Nuss is working the south||
and Louisiana especially. Although it IS in LSU's and Bama's backyard, there are a lot of good players down there. Michigan has generally done pretty well with the guys we've pulled out the state over the years.
|1 week 11 hours ago||Great news for Michigan||
We will need his experience and size next year in the paint. Donnal and Doyle will be new players and still learning. I'd be amazed if McGary doesn't come back. I'm really hoping everyone comes back with the goal of a 2nd Big Ten title and NC. Maybe I'm dreaming a bit. But, I'm not sure Stauskas or GRIII are ready for the NBA quite yet. At least, I don't see either has high to mid first round picks.

when I was at U-M. Geez, am I getting old! Anyway, I wish Jack the best in his quest to become a Wolverine.

Who apparently has gotten a bit senile. Who cares what he thinks.
|1 week 1 day ago||Upvote for you sir||
One of my favorite anti-Buckeye incidents of all time. If MIchigan ever has a mascot, this is the guy we need to hire.
|1 week 1 day ago||Congratulations to the team and Coach Bottom!||
I know Mike Bottom and he's simply a great person. He's like the John Beilein of swimming coaches - knows what he's doing and does everything with class.

Ha-ha-ha! One of my favorite movies of all time.

Must have been a Spartan troll.
|1 week 3 days ago||Hopefully, this will help cut way down on the||
damned delay of game penalties or having to burn timeouts. Also, it could help build up more stamina of the offensive players which will help us wear down defenses later in games -things like we used to to in the good old days.
|1 week 3 days ago||Many congratulations and welcome to ....||
the greatest university community on Earth! Savor every moment of your time there and make it the best years of your life. My entire immediate family have all graduated (or will very soon like my oldest daughter) from Michigan and are thankful every day to be part of The Community. I'll hoist a tall one in your honor tonight!
|1 week 4 days ago||Not so fast my friend||
If we had gotten Big Dog, would that have discouraged Webber from committing? Or was the Ed Martin money the determining factor? We'll probably never know.
|1 week 4 days ago||Yeah, Illinois fans have NEVER||
Gotten over the 1989 semi-finals game. I think they'll always believe they deserved the national championship, not us.

In the first half and win games. We're close to being out of it.
