in his defense the book is phenomenal... probably the only good thing Rosenberg's ever written.

Sources are saying Oakland is still in play
|1 week 1 day ago||yeah right||
I'm pretty sure mistiming, poor decision making, and Rob Ninkovich were the reason for Luck's low completion percentage.

as an Ohioan before you start shitting on my state for this; Ohio City, Oregon also had an article about changing their name for this week.
Now go ahead and shit away, lord knows if OSU fans have been insufferable this week and certainly diserve it.

Wilson played one year in a pro system. Mariota has a great arm, sure it's not the cannon Kaepernick has as the knock on Mariota is his deep ball accuracy, but he's far and away the most intelligent QB in this draft as well as the more athletic of the two QBs (Winston and Mariota).
As far as the system goes, most NFL teams run variants of the West Coast offense, a system not entirely dissimilar from the up tempo spread offense at Oregon. Most of the throws he'd make wouldn't be 30 yard fade routes, in fact that just doesnt happen all that often anyway.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Mariota is significantly more impressive||
than Dixon, Thomas, or Masoli; Dixon had a good completion percentage but never threw for more than 2,200yds, Masoli was 5'11'', never threw for better than 58% or 2,200yds.
Thomas has the most comparable season in 2011 (62.2% completion, 2,761yds 33:7 TD:INT), and even that is dwarfed by Mariota's stats each year;
2012: 68.5%, 2,677yds, 32:6 TD:INT
2013: 63.5%, 3,665yds, 31:4
2014*: 68.6%, 4,121yds, 40:3
*and counting since they're in the National Title game on monday
That's just in the passing game; Mariota has rushed for over 700yds every year, none of the other typical Oregon QBs even hit 600yds except Masoli who was basically a glorified HB.
2012: 731yds, 5.8avg, 15TDs
2013: 715yds, 7.4avg, 9TDs
2014: 752yds, 7.1avg, 5TDs
Mariota has the smarts to make it in the NFL, He's a Russell Wilson type, only bigger (Wilson is 5'11, Mariota is 6'4'' and about 10lbs heavier right now).
|2 weeks 6 days ago||definitely the smarter pick||
Mariota is a beast and I think projects well... but I don't know if I trust Tampa's front office to make that decision. I feel like they get Winston and end up drafting another QB in two-three years.

I've never been a huge fan of retiring jersey for practical reasons. I think the legends jerseys is a creative solution to the problem of a dwindling number of available jersey numbers issue that arises with retired jerseys

Hoke's legacy is tainted by mediocrity but I see no reason why he shouldn't be welcomed back a la Moeller. The guy bleeds Maize and Blue and has as much passion for the university as I've seen. IMO he shouldn't have been as high on the list of candidates as he was, but I wouldn't say he embarassed the university. He was in over his head and the result was a mediocre record, from what I've seen and heard (which granted isn't a whole lot) he's handled this whole situation in a pretty graceful way.
Lets not kid ourselves into thinking that Rich Rodriguez would've taken us to the sugar bowl let alone beat Virginia Tech in 2011. His defenses were embarassingly awful, no way we go 11-2 running a 3-3-5 in the B1G.
EDIT: someone also brought up Michigan's APR under Hoke which was rediculously high, another reason he should always be welcomed back like Moeller.
