I don't care who it is or who they play for. Getting injured and having to lose a season, or medically retire like that Wisconsin lineman, sucks. I feel bad for anybody that has to go through that.

I swam competitively, too, up through high school. Everyone on my team swam fly in practice. Not every practice, and not when we were at the point where training was focused on athletes' specific events, but certainly during the build parts of the training block. Some people swam it like crap, but they swam it.
My wife swam back and free at Michigan. I asked her about it, and she said "Not much. Maybe twice a week for IM sets."

I think we need to beat MSU and OSU before we can talk about whether they should win any of their games.

I mean, I'm kinda on your side here, but this:
"Many freesylers literally never even learned how to swim butterfly and would flounder around like breaching whales if you asked them to try."
What?! That might be the most insane comment I've seen on the MGoBoard. Every competitive swimmer past the age of 8 or so learns how to swim fly and swims fly in practice. They may not be good at it, they may not compete in it, but everyone learns and swims it. Let's not be so dramatic.

Just now? Michael Phelps swam in our pool and took Psych 101. He is absolutely not a Michigan athlete. It has been bullshit for a while now.

Compare it to track. The swimming 100 is like the track 400. 200 -> 800. Ledecky has won gold in the 200 and 400, huge favorite for the 800, and would win the 1500 if it was swum here (side note: why is it not? no idea...its swum at other high-level international meets). For track, that would be like winning in the 800, mile, 2-mile, and 5k (not a perfect interpolation), plus medalling in the 4x400. That would be incredible for a track athlete!
|10 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah, sure, but those are the||
Yeah, sure, but those are the two absolute best athletes in swimming and track. Phelps is the greatest olympian ever. Not really comparable.
Tennis players make a lot at the top, but (and I can't remember the exact ranking) somewhere between the top 30-60, they go from making enough to live to needing another job or supplemental income. USA swimmers get a stipend from the governing body. If they are top-16 in the nation and make appearances at certain meets, they can get up to $3000 a month. That's $36,000 a year. If you're up there at the top, sponsorships and things get you much more. That does not compare the the number of people and salary in the big four sports.
Minimum salary for the big four is all around half a million dollars. They are leagues apart.

You're one of few that don't care what the cost of the ticket is or how that compares with the teams. You apparently don't care about the difference in difficulty it is for the football team, which you are there to support, between having the toughest games all away or all home.

I've heard other people (including a friend) say they don't read the UFRs. My friend says he doesn't have enough time to read them.
Here's the thing: don't read the play-by-play! I read the precursor notes then skip the entire PBP right to the conclusions section. I don't have time to read the whole thing, so I go for the highlights and conclusions. Much quicker read.

My junior year in HS, we were traveling to our bitter rivals (at the time) Milan. They had just opened a brand new school complete with a very nice pool.
On paper, the teams were quite evenly matched. It was going to be a tough fight, and proved to be for over half the meet.
I had been training very hard that year but wasn't seeing results in competition. It changed that night.
Near the halfway point in the meet, we swim the 200 Free Relay. On the B relay, I swim my fastest time and, with great times from the others, we beat their B relay, giving us a slight points lead. By the second-to-last event, 100 Breaststroke, we were again behind. But this event was my primary, and I was fired up.
My biggest rival in the event was Milan's best breaststroker. His times were about a second and a half faster than mine. He was in lane 4, I in lane 3, and our best in lane 5. I took it out at the same pace as the other two; we all touched the wall at 50 yards about the same. That next length, me and my teammate pushed a bit ahead of the Milan guy. While pulling out on that last turn, I see me and my teammate neck and neck while our opponent was almost a body-length behind. We blast toward the finish, teammate winning and myself taking second with a huge PR. Nothing beats the rush I felt when I finished at that wall for second, and saw my time on the board.
Those two events were upsets and provided the winning margin in the meet. I was named MVP for the meet and swam great the rest of the season.

We run a lot of press man to emphasize the strength of our DBs. Looks like MSU is playing off the receivers quite a bit. Do we keep the safeties in to support the run game and place our faith in the corners to shut down the big pass?

My buddy and I stayed in Youngstown, OH Friday night and drove in Saturday morning. We talked with Desmond Morgan's dad (and uncle? not sure) at a McDonalds somewhere in Pennsylvania that morning. Seemed like a cool guy!
The stadium was set up in the middle of farm fields at the far end of campus. We walked through campus all the way down to the Lion Shrine, which was pretty sweet. Got some selfies with the Lion. Most PSU fans were good to us (including a fair amount of people shouting "Welcome!" as we walked by), but there was that one drunk sorority girl that stuck a thumbs-down in my face. Students gonna student.
The campus buildings were mostly architecturally similar. Most were red brick with aluminum accents, but there were some buildings with a tan brick. Campus was pretty nice!
Agree with the stadium: outside and concourse were ugly as hell. Inside its great. The white out was cool for the first quarter before they all got demoralized. "Those fans" exist at Penn State as well...they sat right behind us and constantly complained about Hack not throwing the ball away, or their persistance with trying the run, calling the targeting on Rudock fair game ("LET THEM PLAY FOOTBALL!"), but then yelling about the refs not throwing a flag when Hack got owned by Taco. They left early.
Speaking of leaving early, the avalanche began after we recovered the fumbled punt.
Bars were very crowded, but PSU fans there were great. They praised Jake Rudock and how he destroyed them through the air. Grumbling about Franklin were present, though a few said he needed more time to get his players in.
Overall great trip! Would love to come again. Next year, Iowa.

You have your undead references mixed up. Zombies are typically killed by destroying the brain. Vampires are killed by a stake to the heart.
That being said, I agree MSU is more similar to a zombie than a vampire. Zombies don't look good (look like crap every game), but keep on going despite severe damage (so many injuries).
