Not only are we adding the players listed above who all add much needed size to every position on the floor, these are all legitimate scholarship players. We basically lose Jevon and walk-on caliber players and replace them with quality.
Coaching-wise, I think J.B. is great. He's basically won a lot of games this year with nobody over 6'7"(sorry Gibson). My only concern would be his ability to attract a blue chip big man. I don't believe he's ever had a high quality post player, so that may be a difficult position to recruit. However, all it would take is one player that grows up loving and wanting to play at Michigan to commit and I think that would all change.
I think part of the problem that many people are having evaluating this class is that we are no longer playing the Michigan football we've been playing the last 20 years. RR went out and got ATHLETIC players at every position. In the past, Michigan's "athletes" have largely been confined to the skill positions. He is clearly chasing a different type of player than Lloyd and co. were.
Also, I think it is important to note that he basically took the best player out of the state of Ohio with little to no competition. This has not happened under Tressel's watch and is hopefully a sign of things to come.
The negative media attention/transition/record have hurt and the change-over has probably gone as bad as it could, but I do think we are moving in the right direction. The Super Bowl alone should tell you that there were some serious coaching issues at Michigan. I mean, Steve Breaston can actually catch the ball and run at the same time. Other than his touchdown at Oregon, how many times did you see that while he was playing for Michigan?
I actually think Terrance Robinson has a chance to be a break out player. From some of the comments about him, it sounds like the coaching staff was expecting quite a bit out of him last season if he had not been injured.
Also, I realize the tight end position is sort of in limbo with this offense, but especially with a year of Barwis under his belt, I really think Koger could be a very productive option as he can really create some match-up issues. I'm just not sure how much the coaching staff will really use him.
Anyone else catch the Army/Navy game this year? I thought Army's uniforms were great. Kind of like what Oregon has been trying but unable to accomplish.
I watched several of Southview's games this year and have been asking myself the same question---where is the recruiting buzz. I was told at a game by someone that Joplin will be going the basketball route in college. Don't know how legitimate that info is, but his Dad is a former head coach.
Also, along with the freshman Gant, there is a defensive back that was a Junior this season-his name escapes me, but he is really good and really fast. Southview had 6-7 legitimate 4.5 40 guys this season.
I can tell you that Southview as a school is only like 30 years old. The football program has been coming on strong the last 10 years or so. There is already one alum in the NFL with the Redskins.
I can also tell you that about 3-4 weeks ago my least favorite person from C-bus was at Southview with a couple of assistants. Definately a school that is worth keeping an eye on. For a state championship team, they had quite a bit of young talent this season.
