Yeah, this is one contest I'm not happy to finish well in. I hate when my pessimism gets rewarded.
That's not to say that I would turn down a free copy of BLL (which I didn't order because I don't read many books)... plus the entry does say both "correct guesses" and "five closest," so it depends on which one you want to believe.

Our offense is a long way from being a true threat. Rudock did not impress me; made some bad reads, and the first overthrow of Chesson was inexcusable for a 5th year senior. Smith runs hard, which is nice to see, but he runs hard to the wrong place half the time. The receivers were somewhat of a surprise, but Perry's routes aren't quite good enough to see as many targets as Rudock gave him. Jake Butt is amazing, and he'll have to play like this all season if we want to have any success going forward.
Defense was a bit hit-and-miss for me. The DL seemed to get really good penetration, which was nice to see; however, I fully expect RJS to get some serious minuses on Wilson's TD run - he boned that play as bad as you possibly could. The LBs were good against the run for the most part, but got really exposed through the air. They're lucky there aren't a whole lot of dangerous passing attacks in the conference. Lewis is the real deal, and by the end of the game Peppers was fantastic.
All in all, it played out somewhat like I expected (though I did not imagine Rudock would have 3 INTs, even if one wasn't his fault), as I guessed 23-17. I did see enough that makes me think this team will improve as the season goes along. But, if it was possible, I'm even more skeptical that they'll provide much of a challenge to MSU or OSU in the division.

I've actually only attended two Michigan games outside of Michigan Stadium - 2007 MSU and 2012 Sugar Bowl.

The game at Connecticut was scheduled when they were still in the Big East, a BCS conference. The game at Utah wasn't scheduled until they were in the Pac-12.

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with what Whittingham said. We probably wouldn't be playing the game there if Utah wasn't in the Pac-12.
Let's not try to read disrespect into everything anyone says about Michigan.

I have pessimistic tendencies, so I don't have a real good feeling about the season. I just think there's a few too many holes on the roster still.
@Utah - Loss. Road opener against a tough opponent. Their pass rush will just be too much for our improving-but-not-quite-there OL to handle.
OrSU - Win. Depleted roster, new coach, home opener, reinvigorated fan base.
UNLV - Win. Easily the worst team we play this year.
BYU - Win. Hill is very good, but he's the only established rushing threat, and I trust Lewis to be able to lock down half the field. Our LBs keep their ground game in check enough for us to close out the game.
@Maryland - Win. They simply lost too much on offense, and I'm not sold on their defense outside of Likely.
NW - Win. If Hoke can beat them routinely (in the most unorthodox of fashions, no less), I don't see them being a huge challenge.
MSU - Loss. They're still just a bit too good for us to beat this year. I don't think their in-state dominance will last much longer as long as Harbaugh is around, but he just doesn't have the horses yet.
@Minnesota - Loss. Road game on Halloween will be tough enough, but they also have a pair of great corners to shut down our passing game. It'll be a cold, low-scoring game, and that plays into the home team's favor.
Rutgers - Win. They're just not good this year, and thankfully we don't have to deal with Gary Nova again.
@Indiana - Win. See NW - any team that Hoke could handle, I trust Harbaugh to do the same. He won't let us get tempo'd to death.
@PSU - Loss. Tough road game, their defense will be stout, and any improvement in their OL will make that offense actually dangerous.
OSU - Loss. This team is just stacked, and Meyer will have them ready. We'll have to bring our A++ game, because anything less and the game could get real ugly, real fast.
7-5 overall, 4-4 in conference. The team will show signs of improvement as the season goes on, for the first time in years. However, there's a long way to go to become competitive with the likes of MSU and OSU, and that won't happen in one season.

Utah wins, 17-23.
Unfortunately I think things get off to a bumpy start on the scoreboard, but the signs are there that the team will be a lot more competitive as the year goes on.

My shining moment on the internet is still the day THE_KNOWLEDGE anointed me the Protege of the Week a few years ago, after the 12-10 win over MSU. May the future be infinitely bright for you, good sir (or madam)!

For the sake of practicality, one would be a 2016 Subaru Forester XT. Still decently powerful with the 250hp turbo engine, but enough space for my wife and I to take any road trip we want. Plus it can go places in Pittsburgh winters unlike my second car.
My other car would be a red Porsche 911 - either the 2015 GT3 RS or the 2010 GT2 RS. If I only get one car for the rest of my life, it will be a red 911 worthy of a racetrack. It's the one car I've always wanted since I knew what cars were. I keep telling myself that someday I'll finally have the money to buy one.

This post reminds me how ridiculous it is that we've never had a QB throw more than 25 TDs in a single season, and only once has someone cleared 3000 yards.
For comparison, 39 QBs threw for more than 3000 yards last year alone, 21 of which were in P5 conferences. 24 QBs threw for more than 25 TDs, 13 of them in P5. Yet, with all the talent we've had in the past at QB and WR/TE...
|2 weeks 18 hours ago||I mean, I think it's unlikely||
I mean, I think it's unlikely that we beat either MSU or OSU, but to not even consider the possibility in a 'best case' scenario is ridiculous. I could understand a 10-2 best case if it involved beating MSU, and you could even preserve the 'Rose Bowl' part of it by saying the 2nd loss is to Utah or BYU.
Also, on the other end, I'd peg our worst case to actually be 5-7, if it turns out that none of the QBs are any good and the DL doesn't put much pressure on opposing QBs. If that happens, we could easily drop games to Utah, BYU, Minnesota, MSU, PSU, and OSU. One upset in the other 6 games and 5-7 is reasonable, if a bit unlikely.

Fleck seems like a pretty neat guy. He's gonna get a big time job sooner rather than later.

Notables should have also included all of our opponents. Like:
Utah - 43
The ratings have us going 6-6, which wouldn't be surprising but definitely disappointing.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||I'm not convinced Rudock so||
I'm not convinced Rudock so much as lost the job as it's Ferentz trying to recreate the days of Brad Banks, the last time anyone so much as worried about the Iowa offense. Beathard is a lot more mobile than Rudock is, but time will tell if he's actually any sort of upgrade as a quarterback.
Regardless, I just want a QB who can a) help the team score points and b) not turn the ball over constantly. Doesn't matter to me if it's Morris, Rudock, Gentry, Malzone, or Joe Schmoe coming out of the stands.

Seriously though, that's a pretty neat thing for Coca Cola to do.

You're half right. There was a hydrogen explosion at Chernobyl which lifted the reactor head off and ejected some material from the reactor outside of the containment building. A meltdown alone does not contaminate the environment to the scale that Chernobyl did.
The Chernobyl explosion would have looked nothing like this, though.

Whoa, 10.5 sacks per game? I knew Nguyen was good but those are NCAA '14 numbers on JV level with the sliders all tilted.

75% accurate over the 20 random games they selected from the same timeframe that they built the model on? Doesn't sound that 'highly accurate' to me, especially when you could pick 'pass' every time and be right almost 57% of the time.

|4 weeks 1 day ago||Except that's an event we||
Except that's an event we have plenty of data on, so we could theoretically assign a percentage to it (if we conveniently ignore the scientific capability to track interstellar objects within collision distance of Earth). It is also repeatable, as we could bet again for the following hour, over and over again, until an asteroid does hit and we're both dead. The only way this UM-OSU game is even remotely 'repeatable' is if they meet again in a Playoff game, and even then we get two data points.
Do we actually have any truly applicable data that we can assign a percentage to this specific game? Especially considering it's an event where a lot can change before the end of November (injuries, suspensions, players over/underperforming, etc.). Maybe 18% is correct, maybe not, but how the hell would you even test it?

I don't know man, I'd put it at 50%. We either win or lose. Not like we're going to play this specific game 100 times to see how often we win.

I assumed this was picking a factory truck, not taking an existing one and boosting them. In that case I'd still take the SRT-10, then let Hennessey put a pair of turbos on and have myself a pickup that puts down about 1000hp. Totally useless? Yes, but I also have no use for a truck in general.

The Lightning is fine, but it doesn't have the novelty of the Viper engine like the SRT-10, nor the old-school appeal of the Syclone. I'd love to see Ford to do something ridiculous like put the GT500 engine (or the powerplant for the upcoming GT) in an F150, but that won't happen.
