Montreal's Olympic Stadium back when the Expos were around. Went to a game there in 2002. The seats were awful and you could just tell the ballpark was awkwardly converted for baseball...Not to mention the issues they had with the roof for years and the financial boondoggle it was for Montreal, among other things.

I would rather have been in Armenia doing what you were doing (and visiting the motherland in the process) then watching the game at the Michigan bar in NYC. When you get sympathy from random Miami (YTM) fans in Manhattan ... It's bad.

Usually I don't believe in coincidences, but this for this purpose it is...especially since I didn't make the connection that Bo indeed looks like Clancy here. I love those photos of Bo wearing those sunglasses in the 80s. Heck, I wish I owned a pair.

Although I was in diapers, this has shades of 1983 with the Korean Air disaster where the Soviets shot down the airliner after it strayed into Russian air space, killing everyone on board.
That all said, my only comment for this disaster can be summed up by Admiral Josh Painter from The Hunt for Red October.

FilmVid 236 (In what is now the Screen Studies Program but was previously the Program in Flm and Video Studies) taught by Hugh Cohen. Yes, we watched movies...lots of them--especially Martin Scorsese films since his films were the focus of the class that semester. I decided to major in Film and Video Studies after taking it. Films watched included Chinatown, GoodFellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Mean Streets, Cape Fear (1991), Annie Hall and Terminator 2, among others. We were supposed to watch High Noon the evening of Sept. 11, 2001, but that was cancelled for obvious reasons.

No other way to say it: That sucked. This team needs to take a long good look in the mirror.

Nice to see a Troy native (even if he went to Athens) back on the Michigan roster.

That nickel/dime foul call on McGrady pretty much sealed the game for Arizona. That leaves a more bitter taste in my mouth than blowing an 11-point lead because it's not like the team completely imploded at any one point of the game.

But there are always tickets being sold all the time. I will say the best bet for now in terms of buying football tickets (and probably basketball tickets at this point in time) is to check out the message boards, Craig's List, etc., and put out feelers to friends. Tickets always turn up so I don't think it should be a problem for you--even in the student section's brave new world.
Congrats on getting into Michigan Law...Go Blue (and Hoya Saxa from here on the Hilltop).

I hope it won't take that long to find a spot, renovate and re-open. In the meantime, I'm thankful I can get one last triple or quad when I'm back in town visiting this weekend.

|1 year 14 weeks ago||I was part of the graduation||
I was part of the graduation class that heard David Davis speak (2004) and I thought he was fantastic. No one had heard of this guy and he came out being pretty funny and not condescending at all. While he did talk about his experiences (the man lost half his face in a race car accident!), he did point on the key fact that we should live our lives and take other calculated risks while we can. Heck, he even called out a graduate by name because of his angry Michigan Daily letter to the editor griping how Michigan State got Condoleeza Rice as its speaker and Michigan got a no-namer guy. And he ended the speech with the "If you want God to laugh, tell him your plans for the future" quote. He got a long, loud ovation for that speech, so I think it was pretty darn good.
Now the student speaker that year on the other hand was awful. My friends and I were rolling our eyes and tuning her out after about the first three minutes. All she did was talk about discovering herself and had zero message for her fellow graduates.
My one brother had Bill Clinton in 2007 and he was fantastic. My father is not his biggest fan but admitted it was a pretty darn good speech and liked what he had to say.

I have not watched the NBA on a regular basis since that farce of a series. I root for the Pistons and all but I just don't follow as closely as I did years ago.

Thanks a lot, WDIV (at least it's buried on their website). Click at your own peril.
|1 year 37 weeks ago||Here's why not||
Villanova did win an FCS title a couple years ago, so they're not that bad, but sure as heck wouldn't be anywhere near bowl-worthy competition in FBS. Also: Their stadium seats only 12,000.
Georgetown? They have the smallest D-I football stadium in the country (seats 2,500!) and football has been an afterthought there for a long while (last year was the Hoyas first season finishing above .500 in who knows how long). Also: They don't give away football scholarships as members of the Patriot League. So there's that too.

But when stuff like this comes out, it's very frustrating. It also speaks to Bill Martin moreso than anything.

I remember this going down my freshman year at Michigan.
"I tried to call the A.D. at Michigan between 12 and 1. I had a false name. I would give him a fake name and he would call me back. I couldn’t get a hold of him because he was playing squash. The secretary said he demands that he doesn’t get interrupted unless it’s an emergency and if you want you can leave a voicemail. I left a voicemail and went to Louisville and I’m really happy I did."

I assume Bates would want it that way if a home-and-home is discussed and comes to fruition. My guess is Brandon would try to jazz it up by having it at an NFL stadium or Fenway. But as I write this, I'm now remembering that UMass is playing 4 home games per season over the next few years at Gillette. So maybe Gillette won't happen anyways.

My first game at The Big House was also my first game ever as a student: vs. Bowling Green. A nice little blowout.

Easily one of the top three games I've watched live at Michigan Stadium (Ohio State '03 and '11 are the other two). I really thought Braylon's dropped pass was incomplete--the ending was just stunning.
BTW, here's the embedded highlights

Watching Team 133 rush the field and touching the banner at Cowboys Stadium to a "canned" version of The Victors before this game is just wrong.
|2 years 19 weeks ago||Unreal.||
Quite simply put: A Michigan football Saturday without the Michigan Marching band is sacreligious. And in this case, it's purely unacceptable. The money is there and it's Labor Day weekend.
|2 years 34 weeks ago||Funny but untimely||
The sign was funny but the Sugar Bowl was not the place to flaunt it, especially in the middle of a tight game. I know I didn't need another hypocratic "pride comes before the fall" coming from the mouth of Dantonio in case our luck ran out, which thankfully it didn't.

It doesn't sound like Joe Amendola knew what 1-800-REALITY is really about when he made that reference. Personally, Sandusky needs a new lawyer (not that I think it'll help him that much the way things are going).
