Additional fun fact: The field at Wien Stadium where Columbia plays is named after Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Interesting his pro team is in the upper echelon of the NFL, yet his alma mater where his name graces the field is awful.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Ditto||
Speaking also as a graduate of both schools, he definitely made the right call. Columbia football is...bad:
3-7 in 2016
And of course there's The Streak (0-44 between 1983 and 1988).

The link I posted discussed it: He was in the middle of contract negotiations that had turned tenuous and CBS Sports had new leadership. They canned him with a couple months left on his contract but still let him call the title game (awkward...).

That riveting Georgia vs. Kentucky SEC basketball showdown at Rupp Arena. ESPN is trying to spin it as he's going to end his career where he called the classic Villanova-Georgetown 1985 title game (Yes, it was in Lexington).
Should also note: CBS canned him on the eve of the 1990 NCAA national championship game (UNLV-Duke) on April 1 and everyone thought it was a joke because it was April Fools (only it wasn't). Looks like that was over a contract dispute plus new CBS Sports management. Link

Senior year was spent getting food from either BTB (burritos or quesadillas) or Tio's (chicken nachos with the hottest sauce they had every time). I haven't had BTB since I visited for the 2009 Spring Game, but what I think makes those burritos great is the hot sauce. I hope they haven't changed the recipe, but that was quality heat. Panchero's was OK.
Also: Jerusalem Garden was the go-to spot for my Middle Eastern food fix.

In a span of 24-plus hours, Todd Fisher lost his sister and mother and Billie Lourd lost her mother and grandmother. No one deserves to go through such an emotional gauntlet. Just awful.

Really liked watching Growing Pains as a kid. RIP Dr. Jason Seaver.
Not only was he an actor, but also composed a couple of popular TV themes from back in the day for Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life. He also composed theme songs for a variety of 1970s game shows, including the original theme for Wheel of Fortune that lasted from 1975-83.

I remember reading the Freep and Detroit News were offering buyouts to everyone in the newsroom to meet 2017 budgets. Such a mess.
Being a former journalist, I have friends and family that keep asking me, "don't you want to work at the Freep or Detroit News? You'd be back local and close to family and could do journalism." I then politely try to explain how the business of journalism (and the media for that matter) has been in a downward spiral for the past decade and remind them that I had to take three weeks of furloughs over a two-year period at USA TODAY (not to mention see plenty of good editors and writers lose their jobs unceremoniously because of budget cuts around this time of year).

I remember being in awe when he went back up in space in 1998, 36 years after his being the first American to orbit the Earth. Definitely an American hero and legend...Godspeed, John Glenn.

The Orange Bowl is the Orange Bowl. I don't understand the crying over a Dec. 30 bowl (it's a NYD game that's getting bumped because of a combo of the current system and the way the calendar is at the end of 2016/start of 2017 with New Year's Day falling on a Sunday). It's still in the top tier of bowl games.
Also: Playing Florida State would be intriguing even if it's not a playoff game. We haven't played the Seminoles since 1991 when Amp Lee left a wake of destruction at Michigan Stadium. We won the first meeting in 1986.
That all said, a Virginia Tech win would be nice tonight to give ourselves some hope of playing for a shot at the national championship. If that doesn't happen, bring on Jimbo & Co.

Out of the approximately 5 Buckeye friends that I have, only one commented and said that we played really well. I know that was a sincere comment since that person's not one of the stereotypical nuts that loves rubbing it in (one of those 5 Ohio State friends, unfortunately, is and I've had to unfollow him because it got to the point that he had no life outside of rubbing in the Ohio State factor even when it had nothing to do with whatever we would be talking about).

From a sports perspective this year, Saturday was the bitterest of disappointments.
From a life perspective, this year also has been a disappointment. The job I moved to NYC for in August ended up being a disaster with a psycho boss who threw me under the bus not even two months there (nothing performance related) and unless I can find a full-time gig within the next month, back to Michigan I come; the end of a relationship for non-legitimate reasons along with the ex's expectation to stay close friends after the breakup; all the notable deaths; other things.

I was telling people at the bar I watched the game at in Brooklyn that if it weren't for the dual threat QBs these days that get multiple hundred-yard games in rushing and passing, Speight would be getting some sort of Heisman talk. Low and behold, Harbaugh says Speight should perhaps be under consideration for the Heisman.

Burke says he felt Michigan could have helped him structure what he would face in the NBA with spending, budgeting and investing money.
Isn't that what the NBA rookie symposium is for? Also, I'd like to know what schools do offer that kind of personal finance services to student-athletes willing to turn professional.
As for the "jail food," I lived in East Quad freshman year (2000) and South Quad sophomore year (2001). East Quad wasn't the best, but it's dorm food--it is what it is. Bernard Robinson Jr ate there bunch of times considering I found myself in line with him a couple other hoops players ahead of me. I found myself eating more at South Quad, Couzens and Mary Markley (yes, for those wondering, they had cafeterias before the Hill dining hall opened) because my friends lived there (and IIRC, those dining halls were alright). West Quad was on par with East Quad, but I think that's because they followed the same menu.
Really not sure what Burke was expecting as a student-athlete.

Yep...and Gilda Radner attended Michigan (although didn't graduate from what I've read). At least they're reunited after all these years.
Still, I feel my childhood just took a huge wallop. Pretty much played our family's tape of Willy Wonka until it wore out.

I have my reasons football related and non-football related to say both, especially with certain personal events this year involving people from both schools that left me a little peeved. If you had to make me choose one over the other: By the slightest of edges Michigan State just cause they're getting more pompous as the season gets closer.
