Montoya's had a star-crossed professional career. He looked to be the goalie of the future for the Rangers when drafted 6th overall in 2004. But Henrik Lundqvist (the 205th overall pick in 2000) came out of nowhere in 2005-06 and put a stranglehold on the starting gig (which has worked out well for him and the team), making Montoya expendable (he never even donned a Rangers jersey--he was with their AHL affiliate in Hartford). Bounced around to Phoenix, NY Islanders, and the Jets before making his current stop in Florida. It's a bummer his career hasn't panned out as many of us who went to games at Yost a decade-plus ago thought it would.

I just submitted a volunteer interest form on the Team Gardens website. I just moved back to Michigan for an interim period of time (i.e. until I know where my next job is) but would love to help out with #EATING in the meantime (plus it gives me a good excuse to wear my Hope for Pahokee shirt).

I'll be a John Scott fan from here on out after reading this (except maybe if he tries to take out any Red Wings). I'm pretty much disillusioned with pro sports and their leadership at this point. His kids would be absolutely proud of him for being an all-star unlike what the unnamed NHL executive who posed the question would think. Also: Didn't know he was a Michigan Tech grad--and a smart one at that it seems.

It's a tie between two.
In grad school, I was dumped by a BC alum my age (we were 22-23 at the time) for a 20-year-old ex-classmate of hers. The replacement couldn't even get into her birthday party with his fake ID and she tried to convince me that he was "a mature 20" which I LOL'd at (their relationship lasted just a couple months). Unfortunately, it made for an awkward final 5 months of grad school as classmates since we were in the same seminars and it was a 200-person graduate class, so everyone knew everyone.
The other romantic break up was 10 years ago when the girl dumped me over the phone on my birthday because of a chocolate covered strawberry (I found out the strawberry part two months later as she tried to guilt trip me into staying friends and finally we had a telephone argument over the phone on why I was ignoring her..needless to say, she was blocked and shunned when that came to light).

Off New Order's Substance album from 1987. Blue Monday would probably be No. 2.

For those interested in following, the Washington Post has a collection of snowfall maps from the DC media on what's being forecasted in terms of accumulating snow. The consensus with medium confidence seems to be 10-24 inches (for now).
Also, I highly recommend following the Post's Capital Weather Gang blog if you're really into this storm and want to see how much snow gets dumped on DC. They'll probably live blog the weather forecasting models as they come in tonight (and tomorrow) and tweak their forecasts around that.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||This also reminds me of||
This also reminds me of Snowmageddon/Snowpocalypse 2010. I ended up working from home for a week because the street I lived on in Arlington, VA, was never cleaned. If at least a foot of snow falls (and probably more will fall), I pretty much expect the federal government to be shut down the entire week while the DC region digs out. I wouldn't be surprised if the state (MD/VA) and local governments probably burn through their snow cleaning budget after the first 24 hours of the storm. That all said I expect some amazing snowball fights at Dupont Circle on Saturday and Sunday.
Having lived in Washington for 9+ years until recently coming back to Michigan (on an interim basis), DC and the DMV area cannot handle snow, period. As someone stated before, they are wusses when it comes to winter weather, which is ridiculous since they're susceptible to snow in the winter time.

Thanks, it is indeed him. Grew up watching him on Channel 7 as a kid and my brothers thought he was legendary based on the stories heard about him despite them being too young to remember watching him.
|3 weeks 20 hours ago||Native Detroiter||
I was at Mon Jin Lau in Troy an hour ago and the last thing I saw before leaving the restaurant was a pic of Frey and the restaurant owner among the celebrity diner photos above the establishment's main entrance. He was a Detroit native, Dondero HS Class of '66. I probably have to fire up his Miami Vice episode now (Smuggler's Blues). RIP

I'll certainly remember as being Harbaugh's coach in Indianapolis. More recently (well, 10 years ago yesterday), his radio color commentary as Mike Vanderjagt missed the GW field goal for the Colts against the Steelers in the AFC Divisional playoff game stood out for me (and made me laugh at the same time): "Oh, he missed it baaaad."
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Eric Werner||
Holy crap, there's a name I haven't heard in a while. Great talent, but he had all sorts of academic issues (was suspended for 23 games his sophomore year because he had a 1.8 GPA).
Cool Story Bro moment: He and Roy Manning (along with a couple other football players whose names I don't remember probably because they were buried on the depth chart) were in my Horror Film class during the Fall 2003 semester. One time I was in a group discussion with Werner during that class, but he contributed nothing to the conversation. Manning looked like he was going to have a heart attack after our class screening of Carrie.

Geez, it's the real life Towering Inferno. I hate news like this on NYE...just too much bad stuff going on around the world. I really hope/pray 2016 will be better.

I have family there and always rooted for them to do well in sports (except for the last four years when I was affiliated with Georgetown and whenever they clash with Michigan). Really, really solid hire.
|9 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed||
I'm hoping it's Bates for the same reasons (also the fact he helped propel Miami [NTM] to the upper echelon of college hockey while AD there). Even Bo predicted in Bo's Lasting Lessons that Bates would make a great AD for Michigan.
But Hackett did as swell a job in such a tough position. He truly gets it.

It kept rewinding and also skipped plays altogether to get caught up to the live action. I missed a sack and a Chesson 1st down conversion catch. Really disappointed.

Did I miss it, or is Canteen not listed at all?
All the "OR" spots are listed in alphabetical order btw...when I saw Morris' name first I raised an eyebrow, but then went down the chart and saw how they were ordered.

The injury happened hours before our draft. My veteran money league (which a bunch of us former SITES Fishbowl computer consultants started while in undergrad and has continued to this day) usually drafts after the third week of preseason. Not sure why it got moved up this year as it was out of my hands. That all said: I was able to get Davante Adams, so that should be helpful.

I'm slightly disappointed with Sark: I expected him to drop an Armenian f-bomb or two when I first heard about his rant. There are plenty of USC Armenian alumni who probably would have loved that.

It helps to have contacts with Comcast accounts back home aka family (and a VPN as well).
|24 weeks 3 days ago||It's been a hot zone in terms||
It's been a hot zone in terms of the weather being consistently above 100 degrees every day this summer, but in terms of the regional/global level, it's pretty calm and not near any of the crap going on in the rest of the Middle East (lots of Syrian-Armenians though are fleeing and setting up shop in Armenia). There was that Electric Yerevan protest, but that died down. Plenty of Michigan alumni/supporters here too.
|24 weeks 3 days ago||Armenia||
Setting the alarm for 4 a.m. Friday for the 4:30 a.m. kickoff. Yerevan's 8 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone. Thankfully the noon kickoffs for UNLV and Oregon State means an 8 p.m. viewing time here in Yerevan. But likely going to do the 4 a.m. wake-up call for the Maryland game again. Hoping for a noon or 3:30 kickoff for BYU.

I didn't know UM provided a VPN. I'll have to look into that.
I've been using Private Internet Access for my VPN when I came to Armenia earlier this year. Works great (also highly recommend if you want to see what Netflix streams in different countries). I'll be using it (along with connecting to my brother's Comcast account) to watch the first month-plus of the season here before I head back to the States.
