Another take on Brandon and Toys R Us

Thought this Brandon satire was much more on point:

David from Wyoming

competes for worst poster on this board, and is a disgrace to his avatar.

Congratulations! Good luck.

Congratulations! Good luck.

in mine denard took a direct

in mine denard took a direct snap to the right and we had uconn outflanked. he scored to put us up 10-0. don't know how much time was left but i knew we were going to win.

i dreamt of The Game, just bits and pieces, Steve Breaston returning a punt for a touchdown, that sort of thing.

glad you started this thread, good work.

couldn't agree more, that

couldn't agree more, that part stood out to me most. I think it's more indicative of how well Schofield is panning out. Imagine two redshirt freshmen starting at the tackle positions by year's end. Takes the edge off the panic for offensive line recruits, in my mind.

He's huge (6'6", looks even

He's huge (6'6", looks even bigger) and really athletic. Great red-zone threat. Michigan is probably hoping he'll line up in the pseudo-tight end-wide receiver-h-back position.

But yeah, I hadn't heard anything prior to this either.

I saw JT walking around

I saw JT walking around campus about two weeks ago. I'm about 5'11" and he had me by a few inches...but he did look thin. Looks like the coaches are trying to keep him at cornerback weight as best as possible.

yes, but this would be a HUGE

yes, but this would be a HUGE feather in RichRod's cap vis a vis recruiting for this and next year's class. this is a marquee game on par with playing in the national championship in most recruits' eyes (without actually needing to win to get there).

promote to front page plz

ha

ha, good call, hadn't even considered it. so far so good.

I am an optimist

I heard yesterday that optimism is divine inspiration. I've always felt things will get better. We've had a lot of breaks not go our way, but we'll surprise plenty of people this year...even if for some of us it won't be much of a surprise.

yikes

"Minor bounced back to finish the season strong"? His missing the Ohio State game was in my mind the low point of the season.

His film
umm

Quan Bray?

Nicely put. I tracked down

Nicely put. I tracked down the 2003 recruiting class and saw that that was why we were in close Big Ten contention for two years (from 06-07). It's loaded. same as our 2009 class. RichRod really is a great recruiter to do such a thing off a 3-9 record.

Thank you for this post

I am going through something similar, and needed to hear I wasn't alone.

You're 26. I'm 24. We're in our twenties, man. This is our fuck-up decade. I think you know the right answer here. Being good at something doesn't make it the right thing for you to do.

Go for it.

huh, i knew there was one

I knew there was one. I wonder if whoever put that list together forgot to include him.

He's really, really biased

He's really, really biased toward Ohio State and Michigan State. He's a total Michigan hater. He covered OSU forever and almost never concedes anything for the Wolverines as far as I've seen.

he also said rangers over the flyers and talks like a real hoser
i hate trolls, man. trollin' trolls. trolls trollin' to raise everybody's blood pressure in the name of "starting conversation." look up Larry Burton sometime. Dude's the trolliest of the trolls. Hate him.
How much you want to bet.... ...Rosenberg was behind this? Doing a little snooping around on R&R in Morgantown?
gotta get Turner on the field I feel like Turner is the Denard Robinson of this defense. With the ball skills the scouts raved about, you have to get him on the field in some capacity, even if it's at spur/bandit. Also, isn't Woolfolk already a CB, albeit one playing off the LOS?
excellent topic Excellent topic, fun to think about. I'd love Christian Westerman to jump on board and lock down that left tackle spot for 3-4 years. I also like Darius Jennings, a super-fast athlete out of Maryland who would be devastating for defenses out of the backfield or in the slot. Depriest, for all the reasons other posters named above. Dee Hart, naturally. And maybe throw in DT Tim Jernigan, future Gator and a force on the inside.
i introduced this the wrong way guys, i'll own up. I introduced this the wrong way. first of all, i'm from michigan, not san francisco. I'm not some cali DB ripping on the great midwest. i went to michigan, graduated in '08, and try to consider myself a michigan homer but not a DB about it. second, i really just rip on the izzo love, but it's all in fun. part of it of course is being motivated by my love for michigan and how i feel the residual effects of sparty's success will hurt us. the other part is because i, like you, find it just detestable when ANYONE says something good about Sparty. in sum, i just wanted to clue this board into my radio show. i introduced it in a stupid, sensationalistic manner that was unwise, and i apologize for that. there's no touching the guy. trust me, you will probably like the show, though. winston and i are legit. i plan to move back to michigan and hope to bring a simi;ar vibe to a michigan radio station (if they'll have me). i can see your tl;dr responses now. bk
Dude, lighten up, it's all in Dude, lighten up, it's all in fun.
Pirate Cat Radio: Pirate Cat Radio: www.piratecatradio.com Pirate radio is nice; it means no complying with FCC regs—but yes, also not sounding like a real station sometimes. There was an Anthony Bourdain episode about it a little while back that you might recognize. You can grab the other podcasts through there too, if you like. Go to DJ Schedule and click on Pregame Ritual. This was probably one of our strongest episodes so far. Sometimes we get a little too stoned.
Fair enough Ha, fair enough. I suppose I rip more on Izzo fellators. Just call him what my cohost calls him: the Little Magician.
Thanks, guys Thanks, guys, for the kind words. I had serious hesitations about posting the article here and inviting all the (justified) criticism of B/R and of the people who work there. I hear those criticisms, and I've emphasized to my bosses that now that we've broken into the market, we need to turn our attention to getting better with our quality and editing. But in a lot of ways, they're still too obsessed with pageviews. Anyhow, Go Blue. BK
so lame so lame that this board negs for unpopular opinions. i've seen it happen to other people, but you only grasp its level of profound suck when it happens to you.
am i the only one who... got tired of that guy four years ago? just throwin' it out there.
Tequila and orange juice, and Veckatimest Never been a beer guy. Liquor is so much tastier. And Grizzly Bear's album Veckatimest. An acquired taste, for sure, but one that pays dividends. If it's too much to begin with, listen to it while working. Gradually you'll start to pick up on melodies you like. You'll be singing it while you wait for something to microwave. One morning you'll realize it was playing in your dreams. Then it's in your pores. Just don't bring it up with any hipster doofuses or they'll talk your ear off. That's my problem with hipsters: they always deign to possess the things they like. No one else can have heard of their favorite band or it becomes common. And no one "gets" them. Total opposite of a hippie. Also, best title for an MGoBoard post I think I've ever seen. Props!
No OSU For what it's worth, Ohio State is out of the picture entirely. Jim Tressel said no more defensive backs in this class in a press conference, and OSU pulled his scholly offer according to other sources. Search Latwan Anderson on Twitter and you get the info. My excitement aside, its not good that Tom hasn't gotten wind of this at all, since he's usually abreast of even the most minor mumblings. And Coach Rod didn't seem to be leaving the door open for another player. Unless this was a super-secret recruitment of some sort, the whole shocking the world thing probably has more to do with involving M than actually picking them. I say that with the heaviest heart—his commitment would make this probably the strongest defensive class since we signed Woodley et. al., or stronger.
TE or DE (or both)? Are we recruiting him as a tight end or as a strongside end? Or both? I can see him being the next TE behind Moore and Koger, but we can never have enough pass-rushing DEs. Thanks, Tom.
Grammatical question I was that oddly grammatical question-asker! Viva la internete!
I mean this in the nicest possible way... This Johnson kid looks like a mean dude. That bump that laid out the receiver on the long pass stood out to me. Ferocity and mental gamesmanship are great attributes in a defensive back, and things you can't coach necessarily. You could sometimes see Donovan Warren jawing at the wide receiver after the play was over. He was good enough to do it, but it was still a factor in his success. I'm excited. Thanks for posting this.
Questions about academics Saw this via ESPN Insider on Broussard: Expected to attend prep school or junior college to improve academics... Don't know if that's recent, but it doesn't sound like a good sign considering our academic standards and all...
I'd rather lose him now... I'd rather lose him now than lose him after we've already given up the time and the room in the class. If we thought he was in and then he didn't make the Clearinghouse, like what happened (I believe) with Spoon and Taylor Hill, and we'd lost out on Rashad Knight or some other guy waiting for his turn, we'd all be pissed rather than just a touch sorrowful.
thanks for posting this thanks for posting this. i just spotted the story on rivals and didn't know how big the news really was. hope it turns out a little better than aramide olaniyan...
Ah, RIvals... Ah, Rivals had him listed as an OLB. Good to hear—like another commenter mentioned, he'll be less of a project.
good to hear He was under my radar as well...but he looks great. Think we move him to inside linebacker, esp. with Darion Rogers and the rest of the talent at OLB/DE? He looks like a sure tackler against the run.
salve Nothing puts the salve on a loss better than ND losing too. But if their team this year is our team next year, what does that say about RRod's third year? (shivers)
Funny Funny you should use the term "Hollywood". The ending with her throwing the guy and sniffing at the body as opposed to the original endings was done at the suggestion of Steven Spielberg, who I would say is normally a steady hand at these matters. In spite of that, I thought the ending was the only moment where the movie really cheated by using facial morphing special effects. It was a haunting image but out of place. Everything up to that point had relied on subtlety and tension, and noise. I probably would have liked the one where she beats him with the camera since I think that was the point of the movie - the camera as like a corrosive influence on this situation. Did you guys ever take Mark Kligerman's horror film class at Michigan? It was one of my favorite classes. Would have loved to hear Kligerman's thoughts on the movie.
Not to mention.... Didn't Cissoko play most of his time in the nickel position last year? I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of him just because of MSU's current passing attack. Plus with Stevie Brown playing the hybrid that might give us the speed we're going to need to slow them down. That said, we haven't gone to a lot of nickel looks this year, as per the UFRs.
Word tricks, That's what I'm talkin' 'bout. Brian's last column was the first one where I thought, no, that's excessively negative. Sure, our defense didn't step up, but they will. They'll win one game for us that our offense can't. And maybe it will be against Sparty, although I think the offense will rise to the challenge this week like they did against the Irish. That's if Minor is healthy, which I hope to be the case by now. If he is, this is the game where he shows why he's All Big-Ten. Word.
Official injury report I think an official injury report for the Wolverines should be released some time today. We'll know more then.
I think Chris... ...is/was a Purdue guy. A lot of his early content was Purdue heavy, focused on Tiller's spread attack in the 90's, etc., before he went national with his approach. Not sure myself. What are the other things you're basing your belief on?
It seemed to me... ...that that play was intended to be a quarterback draw. Tate looked like he wanted to tuck and run upfield with it after briefly faking pass, but then sensed he wouldn't make the endzone and, instead, get tackled on the field, so he bailed out to his left and tried to hit Savoy. The blocking also seemed to lean towards a draw, although if that were the case it's a miracle we didn't have an ineligible receiver downfield once Tate threw it. Or perhaps Tate was prematurely bailing on the pass call because of pressure from the blitz. Anyway, this could explain Savoy's complete surprise and lack of preparation for a throw. We'll see what Brian can deduce in the UFR.
Don't know about y'all... ...but I want to hear more of the stuff Carr told you! Manningham injured before The Game in '06? I never would've guessed. Maybe that's why his production fell off after the first half? Or perhaps I'm misremembering. We won that game, right? What else did he say that comes to mind?
I like this arrangement. I I like this arrangement. I would only add that if there were divisions, the likelihood of a conference championship game would increase. In 2003, yes, there would be no title game. Michigan in this alternate Universe would be the Big Ten North winner, and Ohio State would be the Big Ten South winner. The Game's result decided the conference championship. But how about years when the winner isn't either Mich or OSU (the matchup of which would have to be guaranteed, otherwise the Big Ten expansion would be horrible; I liked what one of the commenters said about how the SEC "guarantees" one rivalry game from an opponent in the other conference every year). Assume that the Big Ten divides North/South. This would mean, for example, that Mich and PSU play each other even less frequently than they do with rotating schedules, i.e. they play five division games, three across-conference games, and four ooc games. Therefore your example for 2004 (where Michigan and Iowa tied but Michigan beat Iowa so they are conference champions) would only determine the North conference champion
