It wasn't patronizing. I actually think a lot of fans think this way. I think you're taking this too seriously. We just have a difference in opinion on Thompson.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Who cares where they were||
Who cares where they were picked if they aren't good players? Bennett was actually okay with going to the D-League last year.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I agree, and I watch more||
I agree, and I watch more Eastern conference. I have doubts that any teams other than Miami and Indy would make the playoffs in the Western conference last year.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Think it was supposedly||
Think it was supposedly McDermott not Butler. Butler is a good player, but I wouldn't think of Taj, Mirotic and Butler as equal value for Love if I were the Wolves' GM.

The Cavs are a lock for the ECF.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||That's too bad. I'm||
That's too bad. I'm primarily a Bulls fan but enjoyed watching the Pistons with Grant Hill at the Palace when I was in school. I wish he didn't get injured. He could have had a special career.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I think it's a toss up||
I think it's a toss up assuming Rose is healthy. Lebron is an all time great. To me, he ends up being top five all time. If you have two superstars, you really just need complementary players around them.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Maybe it's because we are on||
Maybe it's because we are on a recruiting web site that people feel this way, but unless he's a sure thing, I would rather take guaranteed all stars if I were the GM. Wiggins has serious bust potential. I wouldn't risk my job over someone who looked just average against summer league competition, and yes, I actually watched some of the games. The athleticism is there but not much else.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I actually respect Lebron||
I actually respect Lebron quite a bit, but if you actually watched the game, you could tell he quit at the beginning of the third quarter.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I would rather hold on to||
I would rather hold on to Love and wait it out a bit longer. With Wiggins and Bennett, they are still just a lottery team. According to reports, Flip wants to at least be competitive right away. The Wolves are not going to be competitive with Wiggins in the near future.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||He would have never left||
He would have never left Miami if he felt the window hadn't closed. With its complementary pieces, Cleveland is much better situated for future titles with Lebron than Miami was (he basically gave up at halftime in his Finals game). There was a reason why he didn't mention the previous two No. 1's in his letter. He's the smartest player in the league, and he knew Miami's time was up as it was constructed.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Basketball is the one sport||
Basketball is the one sport where a superstar (or two) can make all the difference. Cavs have a lot of attractive complementary pieces. Injuries may be an issue, but that's the same with every team including the Bulls who are probably the Cav's primary competition in the East.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Agreed on Cav's strategy.||
Agreed on Cav's strategy. Wiggins is not guaranteed to be anything in the league, and I don't have the same confidence that he'll end up a star as I was when I first watched Kobe and Lebron at similar ages.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I think the Bulls will be||
I think the Bulls will be very fun to watch. Rose appears healthy (fingers crossed). With Gasol, McDermott and Mirotic added and Boozer subtracted, I think they have to be co-favorites with the Cavs.
Lebron and Love are obvious superstars. Though I like Irving, he's a bit overrated to me (as a role player, he's great though). You can't be considered an elite player if you couldn't take your team to the playoffs in the East last year. That's how bad the conference was.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Lebron may pass Jordan in||
Lebron may pass Jordan in titles simply because he jumps ship when he sees adversity and then tries to stack the deck. He's a phenomenal talent and will be considered a top five player of all time when it's all said and done. I would put him below Jordan (who was pyschopathic as a player). Lebron is also below Kobe (who I absolutely hate) in terms of overall career, but he'll pass Kobe in the future.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Not a good deal for the||
Not a good deal for the Wolves. Wiggins looked just average his freshman year (given his hype) and didn't look very good in the Summer League, which are bad signs in my opinion. On the other hand, Love is a top ten player in the league.

MSU does take the rivalry more personally. Not just for the players but for the students as well. Admittedly, I look down on MSU as an institution.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||I'm the biggest Jordan fan||
I'm the biggest Jordan fan there is, and Lebron will never be better than Jordan. However, I also respect his talent, and he is on track to be a top five or six player of all time. You sound like you need to chill out. It's just basketball.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Lebron knows exactly what he||
Lebron knows exactly what he is doing. I was thinking somewhat similarly to what Bill Simmons just wrote. Lebron made a calculated move back to Cleveland because he knows Cleveland is better set up for more championships now than Miami (as currently constructed). When you add Lebron to Cleveland's roster, they become a totally different team.
Lebron is the smartest and best player in basketball right now, but he is also the most image-conscious. The letter was well played.

Overall, I'm optimistic but making the Sweet Sixteen for the third year in the row with as many early entrants as we have had will be very difficult. Regardless, I'm looking forward to watching how the team develops.

The persistent hagiography of Joe Paterno is shameful. I literally despise Penn State as a school. I want to see Penn State's football program in shambles and out of the Big Ten. Seriously, the fact that some of their fans actually continue to attempt to prop up Joe Paterno as some role model is ridiculous. They are nothing more than human excrement to me.
|18 weeks 5 days ago||I think it would be a mistake||
I think it would be a mistake in terms of his future, but he should do what he feels is right. It's not for anyone on this forum or anywhere else to decide anyways. I hope he comes back because it would not only benefit Michigan basketball but would probably guarantee him first round status. At the same time, it's his choice, and I hope he does extremely well in the NBA if he gets drafted.
Anyways, he may not get into the first round, but he will be drafted and he will make some roster if he were a second round pick. In my opinion, he's too good a talent not to be able to make a roster somewhere. The thing that he will be risking is the guaranteed three years.
Finally, the meltdown on this board has been entertaining to say the least.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||Agreed. I would rather have||
Agreed. I would rather have legitimate minor league systems for basketball and football for athletes who really do not care at all about receiving an education.

However, there is a risk that he has an off year or gets injured. Additionally, if you are guaranteed to be selected in the first round, a player is at least guaranteed to stick around with a NBA team for a few years. That's the case if a player is selected in the second round.

I thought Mitch McGary should have left last year since his value was probably not going to get any higher, and I feel the same way about Stauskas. Regardless, I hope the kid makes the best decision for him. Separately, I think McGary and Robinson should probably stay another year now. I really hope the both of them have incredible years next year and that they boost their stocks to lottery levels.
|29 weeks 11 min ago||I can understand the parents'||
I can understand the parents' concern. If I thought my son was mixing in with the wrong crowd, I would definitely try to do something about it especially at that age since he is still a kid. Just hope MM ends up at the school that is best for him whether it be MSU, OSU or wherever.
|29 weeks 22 min ago||Although I don't think it||
Although I don't think it should matter as much as it does, the name of the institution makes a difference. To state a reality, substantially most employers outside the state of Michigan will hire a Michigan grad over an equally qualified MSU grad for most jobs. MSU is not considered by many outside of the state of Michigan to be a great school. It's just not.
If I obtained the same set of degrees from MSU (or OSU for that matter), I can almost guarantee that I would not have enjoyed the same success as I do today. Luck and timing definitely play a part, but name recognition and connected alumni do as well.
|29 weeks 1 hour ago||I don't think it's just the||
I don't think it's just the education. If the athlete has enough foresight (and many times the athlete doesn't), it is also about networks. I know some of these athletes get jobs later in life simply because they were Michigan athletes. For myself, I know that having two Michigan degrees helped me with other alumni in opening doors. Just having the name on a diploma is not going to break open any barriers, but it does help nonetheless if you play the cards right.
And with respect to General Studies, I don't think that matters all that much. I was a history degree, and it's not like that made me better prepared for my current profession. If the athlete takes his future seriously, he or she will have opportunities later in life whether it is a general studies major or something you self-righteously deem more worthy.
