Not a fan of the night game, especially for Notre Dame. If we're gonna do it, why not do it to get some hype for some other game like Minnesota or Penn State or Wisconsin.
Plus, I'm not looking forward to waiting all day for the game. I love being able to go home after and still watch some football while getting some much needed rest.
And if he's in the league, he'll make the league minimum of $300,000. Even if he goes back and forth between the two, he's making money and gaining valuable experience.
He'll make no money at school and probably won't gain the same type of experience.
I believe him (maybe not the 'good authority' part).
Manny has nothing to gain by staying. Any progression in his game that he can make at the college level he could do in the NBDL under the supervision of his future employers while making a decent paycheck.
He has very little reason, from a career standpoint, to stay.
Now, if he wants to return to finish his degree and play another year of college hoops because he loves it, good for him. I just hope he makes the best decision for him.

I know it's pretty much an MGoLaw to hate on Valenti and Foster, but some people make some pretty ridiculous claims.
A quick "mike valenti pope comment" google search turned up nothing, so I find this a little hard to believe (at least in the context you're presenting).
I did, several times. Turner took the shot in complete rhythm, and was allowed to advance the ball without pressure.

Solid pick? The screen was about 15 feet away from Turner, so Stu wasn't even playing him tight enough to at all slow down Turner, which is the biggest problem. Stu recovered, but far too late and by the time he was able to get back in front of Turner, Turner had already risen and by the time Stu got a hand up, the ball was practically gone.
Given that Turner is 6'7" and Stu is 6'2", that's pretty uncontested as far as I'm concerned.
But whatever, I've finally moved on. This year was such a disappointment that I just knew that OSU was gonna hit some improbable shot. I just wish that we made it more difficult on them.

Well, I don't think that all of Turner's 3's throughout the year were uncontested. He's also the a NPOTY candidate and practically by definition that means he's a clutch, big time player. Just like Manny, he may take bad 3's throughout a game, but there's nobody else you want in control of the game late.
I'll concede 20% may be high. But I don't think 15% is high.
And does this change if Deibler caught the ball? The same thing applies: we shouldn't be giving up that decent of an open look in 2.2 seconds.

Um, 1 in 20? No way. A 37-foot wide open shot is not a half court shot. I would say if Evan Turner took that shot 100 times, he would hit 15-20 of them.
When the other team has to go the length of the court in 2.2 seconds, they should not be able to get off a 15-20% shot. Hell, I'd argue they shouldn't be allowed to get off a 1/20 shot.
I think a big reason why Stu struggled this year was because he was asked to run the point and run the offense. As we saw today and have seen in the past, he's must better coming off screens and knocking down shots. He wasn't able to do that this year for several reasons:
Lack of experienced PG to run the offense.
Manny Harris' inconsistency sudden lack of the drive and dish that he had previously been so good at.
Fluctuating confidence level.
I'm confident that Stu will continue to be a major role and a positive one in his final two seasons as a Wolverine - the skill set is there and I thought he made great strides on the defensive end of the game this year.
He got as good a look as you can get from that distance. Literally, he couldn't have got an easier look.
So, no, I am not fine with him getting that shot. There was no defense played at all.
The odds are not as bad as you make them seem. I bet Evan Turner hits that exact same shot between 15-20% of the time. We should be able to limit a team to a worse shot when they have 2.2 seconds and the full length of the court to go.

There is a rift. This is fact. Beilein sat Manny at Iowa last year. Suspended him this year. Knowing people that work with the team, I think I can safely say that it's not all sunshine and lolipops.
Luckily for us, Manny played his way out of the NBA draft throughout B10 play.
This wasn't a reactionary post to the loss today, rather it's more of a bunch of thoughts that I've been talking about with my friends since the end of a very disappointing non-conference season.
The thing that this season does - and was the main point of my original post - is puts a halt to all the student excitement that was generated last year. Last year student ticket sales went up 500% to 2,500. Judging by attendance of students this year, I think we'd be lucky to get to 1,250 next year. That is a HUGE (Yes, capital huge) step back.
Like I said, I was comparing the after-effects of the loss. I think that MSU loss will have more tangible (read not just embarrassing) negative effects.
Yeah sorry, I forgot that even State blowout, alcohol driven thoughts of disdain over the last three years are completely unacceptable on MGoBlog.

I've seen Avatar and Inglorious Basterds.
It's easy for people to assume Avatar is a sci-fi CGI-fest with little more than stunning visuals to its credit. That's what I assumed. But I saw it this last week, and it is certainly more than a sci-fi CGI fest. I thought the acting was very good - Sigourney Weaver was so believable and likable in her role. I thought the villian dude was really good.
The cinematography was excellent, for the most part. The directing was pretty standard and conservative. Nothing outside the norm of what I would have expected (with the exception of a few zoom shots which I personally don't think fit the scene).
I don't think it was a "Best Picture" film. I thought it was a great, fun film and I actually saw it twice (just the second time I've done that).
Mad props for seeing all the nominees. As someone who considers myself a film guy, I wish I had the time between school and work to get to all of them, especially in theaters.
Worst case if opening day is sold out? Ummm... don't know what you think about the demand of Tigers tickets, but opening day was sold out in 40 minutes.
On Stub Hub right now there are $5 skyline tickets that were just bought (because these seats don't come in ticket packages) on sale for $85 each.
That's garbage. If I want to buy tickets to a game and, you know, actually use them, I should be able to before some fucking rat buys the cheapo tickets to make a quick, dishonest buck.

I disagree. I love that the floor is not littered with paint. I prefer the clean, plain floor. I've always liked it since high school, so I'm sure there's recruits that are the same way.
Whatever way you slice it, the floor is just an on-the-surface issue anyway. I'd be more concerned with some of the more major upgrades that have been mentioned in this thread.
Soccer is a defensive minded game, for the most part. Games generally are not won and lost with shots on goal, they are won and lost with sound defensive play and controlling the middle of the field.
The team that controls the middle of the field is generally the team that gets the most chances, thus usually the team that wins.
Soccer requires literally a full team effort to score a goal. So even though there may be only a few goals a game, each one of those goals requires each player on the team to do something to contribute.

I'm sorry, but one of your premises is completely wrong. You argue that refs don't receive negative feedback.
This is completely false. Not only do they receive constant negative feedback, but if they don't quickly improve, they lose games (read: their job).
I can only speak for college basketball officials, because that's what I know best: every game and every call is judged by the officials' committee for a given conference (sport, league, whatever). If refs aren't making the cut, they aren't asked back next year.
Believe me, refs live every day with negative feedback and their job depends on them improving from it.
Not all students that don't have hockey season tickets don't care about the team.
I'm a diehard hoops fan - this is my 5th year at Crisler. Unfortunately my wallet makes me choose between hoops and hockey. Doesn't mean I don't care about hockey and don't know every in and out there is to know about Yost.
Wearing Muck Fichigan shirts and driving three hours to maybe have the chance to glorify your victory against one of ND’s favorite rivals in their own stadium ... that is Notre Dame.
Definitely qualifies the chance at actually winning with that "maybe." So, not nearly as presumptuous as the OP made it out to be.

Do you not think that the "Family Values" situation holds any water with people? I think we can agree that there are many people, be it students, fans, alums, whomever that are/were very upset with the idea that RichRod had great attrition his first year, and one of the reported reasons was a lack of family values.
Now, you can believe that Boren is a weak sauce chump of a football player (I tend to fall into that category). But not everyone does. I know very knowledgable, reasonable people that are very upset with Rich Rod for reasons not on the field.
The same can be said for the Feagin and Dorsey recruitments. People are not happy we are bringing in players with a history of run-ins with the law. There are people who could care less how well we do on the football field - there's other standards that Michigan should be holding all its incoming students to.
Is it my opinion? A little, but not enough to get upset about Dorsey's past transgressions. I'll trust that he's turned a corner, as evident by his 2 year clean sheet, and that RR and staff will work hard to give the kid a second chance at life.
The Feagin situation, IMO, was pretty bad. Some people argue that RR only brought him in out of a stark necessity. I argue that if there's any time when you need to uphold the standards of the University of Michigan, that was it. Instead RR ignored them and brought in someone he wouldn't have otherwise.
The point is, these things happened. And it is the general opinion of the Blog that they are minor incidents. However, all these minor incidents plus the product on the field add up. People have ridiculously high expectations and standards for Michigan football that only start on the field, and Rich Rod has admitted himself that he didn't fully realize those expectations and standards when he took the job.
He's got this year to get things done.
But he basically did write it. He made a point about the Rose Bowl loss of 2006/07 saying Michigan "got drilled in another Rose Bowl." If that isn't insinuating a decline at the end of the Lloyd era, what is? Sure he could have come out and said that, but he didn't. He also didn't say that the Appy State loss was Rich Rod's fault, but several posters on here seem to have put those words in his mouth.
How exactly is Caputo supposed to respond to someone calling his show and telling him to "do his job." How would anyone respond to some person, who knows little to nothing about how you work or the time you put in, coming up to you and telling you that you don't do your job. I would assume not favorably.
Furthermore, Caputo's article is not just about football. He talks alot about basketball. He correctly (in my opinion) points out that the Beilein extension was questionable. He questions why a team with two potential NBA players cannot compete at a .500 level in the Big Ten, which is arguably down from last year.
And in reference to the RR aspect of the article, Caputo does make the major point the RR era the record - which it is. 3-9 and 5-7 is unacceptable. Period. Even with installing new systems and the QB situation. The cupboard was left missing a few pieces, but it wasn't bare. RR should have a much better record than he does, and that's why he gets criticism.
Finally, my biggest beef with this thread: People on MGoBlog, for every negative article, immediately post a one line comment about media bias, or boycott X, or whatever. They are committing the same actions they are protesting: They are blatantly and in many cases ignorantly, bashing an article or viewpoint without acknowledging or even considering if it has any merit.
Like I said, this article is basically non-news nothingness, but it is fairly accurate non-news nothingness.

But is it really? Yes, that is what the end result was, but I really don't think that people can logically make the jump that the Free Press was out to ruin the University of Michigan.
Rather, the Free Press was out to make a splash with a big article name. They were out to sensationalize. And the biggest and best way to do that, in the sporting world, is to dig into Michigan Football - a side effect of being the biggest program in the area.
Does it make it any better? No. But if Michigan State Basketball was THE program, I don't think we could say that the Freep would ignore current and former players if they mentioned possible wrong-doings by the University.
They are taught differently at higher levels. I've been lucky enough to be taught and trained by D1, D2 college and even a little bit by NBA and WNBA officials.
The higher in officiating you go, the more you want to avoid and-1's. The reason is the concept of "advantage-disadvantage." If someone taps Dwight Howard on the elbow as he throws down a monster dunk, should we call a foul? No. If someone grabs his elbow as he goes up, preventing him from going up with two hands, and he still gets the dunk down, then we have an and-1.
It's a tough concept to get down and it's not just "every foul is a foul" because otherwise games wouldn't end. In basketball you can call a foul on every play. It is the officials' responsibility to determine (usually pre-game, but it changes depending on the flow of the game) how strict they need to be with contact fouls. It's not easy.
(Granted I'm talking mostly about plays in the paint. Also, FWIW: I did not see the foul in question)
Finally, a quick story referencing refs "taking tests." Refs at this high of level are evaluated constantly. How constantly? I was at a camp where the director of ACC officials spoke. In every ACC game, every single call or no-call is graded. Every one. Officials in the ACC are expected to get 90% of the calls correct and expected to be perfect in the final four minutes. Officiating is not nearly as unstructured as some would believe.

The Maize Rage and even non-students were loud and rocking the entire game. Sparty never took over Crisler - it has been done in the past, it didn't happen last week.
The most you can say is that Sparty got loud when Michigan was obviously quiet. They did their dumb chant during Michigan FTs. What are we supposed to do, try to out cheer them while our guys are at the line?
Given the games against MSU in the past at Crisler, this year was the best home court advantage we've had in a while. About 2500 students in attendance. That's the most since probably 2005. The place was loud and crazy and pro-Michigan.
I think last night's House was the best one since the season opener. Definitely a good to great episode.
Lookin forward to LOST tonight, though disappointed that I didn't have time the last few weeks/months to go back and watch Season 5 again. Gonna need a refresher before tonight.
