Finally, some payback for 2006 and 2007.

Phenomenal play by Hunwick tonight overshadowed what was probably the best game of Rust's career.

Secret Weapon

Red was our secret weapon in this one. Only a secret thanks to Melrose jerking off to the Sioux all day today. He is UNBEARABLE to listen to, I almost had to mute it. I lost track of the number of times he went back and forth between whether M wanted to play an up-tempo flow type of game or a grind-it-out game.

Also Gary couldn't seem to look at the correct side of the score sheet during either game tonight.

Chrysler in a landslide

And I'm part of a GM family...

Also, the VW Darth Vader commercial was hilarious. Laughed the hardest at that one for sure.

Camper and Miele

Camper and Miele do not play on the same line. They are easily Miami's best players, but they don't play on the same line. They put Camper on the "4th line" (which means you can't even call it their fourth line) and Miele is on the top line.

Also, the numbers on the side of the helmet are retarded.

That is all.

ESPN?

Does anyone know if ESPN is going to carry a live feed like they did with DB's presser?

Assuming we aren't just talking about football

I'd like to see these jerseys make a comeback...

Staying warm

Will the team get sweet gear like this hat with the dangly snowball to wear during warmups/on the bench?

I'll try to shed some light...

I'll try to give some insight, as I assume it's the parallel to my major at Georgia Tech, which was called "Building Construction". At GT, there were exactly 0 athletes (of any nature, not just football) that I ran into in any BC classes. Actually, that's not true...there was a guy who ran track in one of my classes. It wasn't as reputable as an engineering degree, for obvious reasons, but still pretty well-respected. You still had to take physics, calc I and II, and two semesters of statics, so it was no cake walk. It was essentially 50/50 engineering and business in terms of class structure.

Don't get me wrong it's no CHBE (Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering), pretty widely regarded the hardest degree at GT, but it was not a joke.

Since you admitted you were winging it, just wanted to comment on the "those who can't design are construction managers" comment. Owners and developers pay millions of dollars for people other than those who designed the building to actually build it. A lot of the time in my experience most of what is designed is either inadequate to construct or physically impossible to construct.

Also worth noting that from my experience, 95% of athletes  were in the management program at GT, and the others were sprinkled in other areas (International Affairs; History, Technology, and Society; and Literature, Communication, and Culture).

Said player

Said Georgia Tech player is Tashard Choice. I'm a Tech Alum and he's my 2nd favorite player next to Megatron. I saw him numerous times at Waffle House (most of the time picking up a carryout order that easily could have fed a family of 4) and he always returned my drunken Hello's. Really nice guy.

This is awesome.

One of the main reasons I find myself browsing the Coldwell Banker website looking for a house to buy is so I can have a charcoal grill all to myself and not have to share a shitty gas one with everyone in my apartment complex.

I want to go home and fire it up right now. Thanks!!

Oh boy,

Gary Bettman would love to hear you say that.

Except

"Honestly this is just the typical American media pandering to it's base of Americans that we are better than everyone else"

Except for the fact that this entire article is based entirely on the notion that we are not better than Canada at hockey.

"How about some unbiased reporting?"

That is exactly what this article is asking for. The author is constructing a hyperbole to show that the Americans deserve some respect as well. That's all. He isn't bitch-slapping Canadians, as you have implied. It's just some friendly sarcasm.

And as for your comment about losing with some class, I find it pertinent to tell you that I watched this game with a number of my Canadian friends (who for whatever reason don't know very much about hockey) and despite the fact that they were talking shit the entire game, even though they really didn't know what they were talking about, I didn't return fire and happily congratulated them once the game was over. I also watched the entire medal ceremony with them. (I also thought that the Crosby-vision was overkill, I would have liked to see some other players during the ceremony, but oh well.)

Sheesh

It's just a little satire, friend. I give credit where it's due, Canada's team was supposed to be the best in the world and they were. They won the gold medal. But that's where it ends. In no way am I 'ripping on Canadians'. It's a friendly sarcastic take on the misrepresentation of the situation, that's all. Maybe you should go police the "I hate Crosby" thread, there are much worse things being said about Canadians in that thread.

#5

5. 3-D TV will become the rage
College football fans will be captivated by much-improved 3-D technology, which will make them feel like part of the action. To almost no one's surprise, Big Ten players will look even slower in 3-D.

I have heard that ESPN has plans to launch a 3D network and will be kicking it off by broadcasting some World Cup games in 3D this summer. Should be interesting.

Also, those 'faster' players from Oregon and Miami FL didn't seem to be able to put their conference-based superior athletic ability to use in their bowl games this year...

Can't do it anymore

I would continue this discussion with you, but the "Golf isn't a very athletically demanding sport" line just totally ruined your credibility, sorry. Agree to disagree.

It's very close

Let me be clear that I am not saying that Federer has no business being on the list. I think it's VERY close between the two, and I admittedly don't know a TON about tennis. Federer absolutely has an argument for being the guy, no doubt about that. A very good argument, indeed. I just think Tiger has been better, that's all.

The same issues always arise about athletes in different sports. How is tennis tougher and more competitive than golf? I don't mean this in an attempt to badger, just an honest question of what your opinion is on the matter.

In my opinion, golf is pretty damn competitive because in each tournament (assuming it is stroke play, as almost every PGA tournament is) you are putting your score up against 125+ players, and you have to beat every single one of those players to win a tournament. That is pretty difficult to win consistently under that format.

Not to mention Tiger's margin of victory in most of these events over the years. His scores on what were considered some of the hardest courses in the world warranted course designers to start making them harder (Tiger-proofing) because of ONE PLAYER. That's pretty incredible.

You are correct

That was stupid, my apologies. Please see French Open post below...

A very interesting point

Also, if Lance Armstrong wasn't American, do you think he even would have made the list? I think not. Everyone on this list is American save Federer (to my knowledge), which is a testament to his dominance especially since it's Tennis (not a ton of exposure). Still think Tiger takes the cake though.

French Open

Are you forgetting Federer's inability to win this tournament *until this year*? Tiger won every major three times each during that span. Federer has a well-known weakness that is clay, whereas Tiger arugably doesn't, other than for extremely hot women who are not his wife.

Disagree on Federer over Tiger

Although his indefinite leave from golf will have an effect on his career numbers...if Tiger Woods retired today he would be the #2 golfer of all time behind Jack, in my opinion. What this guy accomplished in the last decade is more beastly than any other golfer's entire career, save a few (Palmer, Player, Nicklaus, and possibly Hogan or Jones). If he is an average golfer when he returns, he will probably reach and possibly even break Jack's major record before he finishes. The only guy I would consider putting ahead of Tiger Woods would be Lance Armstrong, but cycling isn't big in America so I'm not surprised he didn't win.

What's the role of Putz?

So is Putz going to close for the White Sox now? What is going on with Jenks? Did his contract expire or what? I most likely have an elevated opinion of him due to the fact that he absolutely pwned the Tigers throughout his career, but he seemed like a very capable closer. Can someone shed light on this?

We won't see any

I don't expect to see any proof unless he goes through the list that's been formed and checks yes or no, which obviously will never happen. I just think it's a little outrageous how many women are suddenly a mistress of Tiger Woods just because they say so. Taking porn stars and club promoters for their word is sketchy at best.

Bottom line is that he made a mistake, he brought it upon himself but there should still be a degree of privacy. It's not like he is an elected official, who would be expected not to be so cavalier with his personal life. He is a professional golfer. What he does with his personal life should be his business. I realize that he has high exposure in the media, but that is for what he does on the golf course. The line has to be drawn somewhere. That being said, I do not feel sorry for him.

Agreed

Couldn't have said it better myself, but there is one thing...we are allowed to discuss this if we want to with our fellow mgoblog populus. That's much different than breaking a story on the news or writing a letter to Tiger Woods. I do agree with the general principle behind your post, though. Good stuff.

According to whom?

The National Enquirer? It's not a coincidence that all these women that are coming out claiming to have slept with him are money grubbing whores who will do anything for a little face time, good or bad. I will believe it once I see proof for myself. I think we all know, espcially around here, that the media can't be trusted (especially newspapers).

I also don't really care what Ron Artest has to say, either. He says he has to "cope" with his decision to stay loyal to his wife? Sorry life is so hard for you, Mr. Artest. If you have to cope with the lifestyle of a professional athlete, then you have serious issues.

El Jeffe, I hope that your interpretation is correct, it came off differently to me...sounded to me like he was saying he has to cope with his decision to remain faithful to his wife and family. Either way, I don't really care what he has to say in general, but I do agree with him that the media has been ruthless. It's nothing new in this country, but there has to be some degree of privacy. Gotta feel for Tiger's wife in this situation...on top of having to deal with Tiger's infidelity as a family, they have to see all these rumors and shit plastered everywhere about them. That's not really fair to her or their children.

Question

What exactly does he mean by this:

"...and I still cope with the fact that there are so many women out there and I choose to stay loyal to my wife."

Looks like he took Rick Reilly's

Looks like he took Rick Reilly's advice, Reilly wrote a column a little while ago suggesting Tiger take some time off from golf. I don't usually agree with Reilly I think he's a bit of a slimebag these days. Sounded like Reilly was suggesting Tiger do it for the purpose of preserving his image, whereas I think Tiger is actually doing it for the reasons he suggests...at least that's what I am telling myself.

I guess

I meant to say that it just didn't get a lot of attention, considering they were in the bottom third of the league. Usually if the Red Wings are in the bottom third of the league in anything, we hear all about it. I just don't think it was as pronounced. All I am saying is that it's not just one thing that needs to be fixed, that's all. All we ever hear about these days is that we need to be scoring more goals. I just think that it's equally important we don't give as many up.

Totally agree on Lilja, he gets bashed a lot (I used to do so) but I think he is a very valuable defenseman, especially on the penalty kill. He's one of the best penalty killers we have. The PK, at least, has been showing some signs of strength, I think they have killed like 17 in a row or something.

Interesting points

I can't disagree with anything you've said, they definitely need to be scoring more goals. Pierre LeBrun over at ESPN answered a mailbag question (from wingsfan4013) about it, giving the Wings' offensive ranks in terms of goals per game:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=lebrun_pierre

That being said, goals aren't their only problem. I just took a look at their defensive ranks in GAA the last 9 years (I could only find stats back to 2000-2001):

00-01 2.46 (8th)
01-02 2.28 (3rd) Stanley Cup
02-03 2.48 (8th)
03-04 2.30 (8th)
04-05 (Lockout, duh)
05-06 2.50 (2nd)
06-07 2.33 (2nd)
07-08 2.18 (1st, and WOW) Stanley Cup
08-09 2.93 (19th!!!)
09-10 2.72 (13th)

The defensive numbers are equally as impressive, if not more, than the offensive numbers the last 9 years (with the exception of the current season and last season). It's not just that the Red Wings aren't scoring goals, there is a defensive lapse that has taken place, as well. Not many noticed it last season because the offense was so outstanding. There is more than one problem here. Bottom line: they need to be better at both ends of the ice. I very much hope that Jimmy Howard is the answer in net and that he turns into the player they drafted him to be.
