There are no words that can…

There are no words that can capture how much of a cesspool this message board has become.

Yeah, um, actually, I am…

Yeah, um, actually, I am saying that. Priorities man.

Setting that aside, as far as I can imagine, the Physics Department isn't and hasn't been "open" in any normal sense (i.e. remote classes, minimized and very cautious lab work) since March.

If you're so desperate to see SPORTZ at all costs, go watch the Pistons.

"But the physics department…

"But the physics department is still open"!

Dude, listen to yourself: did you somehow forget that we're talking about a university?

Skeeps actually used to be a

Skeeps actually used to be a funeral home (and still had weird related stuff in the 3rd floor attic as late as 2006). If you wanna be all old fart like that.

You're right on a

You're right on a week-to-week basis that yes, the team's performance in any given game (or probably season) is independent of your individual mindset as a fan. Obviously.

But high-level decisions made by the university and the athletic department are made with various stakeholders in mind - and yes, as fans, we are "customers", and thus the most important stakeholders in that equation. Even more than student-athletes, unfortunately. If we threaten to spend our money elsewhere b/c the product sucks, the university is likely to make changes. That was the entire premise of the Minnesota-Brandon-Hoke protest.

Brian is probably the most influential voice on Michigan football, full stop. What he says matters, and I am extremely thankful he hasn't jumped off the Harbaugh train like many of the psychopaths apparently lurking in our fanbase.

O'Korn played extremely well, O'Korn played extremely well, full stop. Drops all over the place, RBs did awful in blitz pickup, OL had their worst game of the year in pass pro. Playcalling was atrocious. Not on the QB.
Brian also kept cutting him Brian also kept cutting him off and telling him to shut up on the air...real nice guy behavior.

If you (or Brian or the mods, If you (or Brian or the mods, for that matter) think sports - and especially college sports - aren't political, you're a moron.
Yes, I play golf, and

Yes, I play golf, and competitively at the amateur level. And yes, Spieth is absurdly good. No one is denying that. I was just defeinding the original "whiner" comment, and all I'm saying is that I personally don't appreciate this bizarre American tendency to equate athletic success with being a good person. Why do we insist on dumping all these extra-athletic qualities into the guy just because he wins?

As an example, Spieth clearly knows how to grind on the course (as do all PGA Tour Pros), and his decision not to re-tee out of frustration on 13 was remarkable. But it doesn't tell you anything about his "maturity" off the course, and it doesn't tell you whether he has "class". Maturity should be measured using way more than any of us know about the kid.

Either way, count me as skeptical of any athlete who gets portrayed as a holy saint, particularly when there's plenty of evidence that he's an otherwise normal 23 year old. I just wish he'd embrace it like his peers - Rickie, JT, Smylie, etc. It would make the sport more entertaining if its superstars didn't feel the need to pander to the desires of corporate sponsors.

I watch way too much golf. I watch way too much golf. Every time this guy is mic'd up he gets caught berating Geller or complaining about things that are his own fault. Case in point: 1st hole today, "this is crap! Great shots not getting rewarded." Bro, great shots don't land in 3 foot deep crap; maybe you took the wrong line. You could argue that's a good mental strategy on the course, but yeah it makes him a whiner. What Spieth and Tiger have in common is that they both have management teams that branded them at a young age to conform to what golf's corporate powers think they want out of young superstars (oh he's so kind and generous!). At least Rickie tries to be himself.
Great article (not sure why Great article (not sure why others are hating)... But uh, where does it suggest that Ekpe Udoh has any "Turkish heritage" of his own?
As another former GSI, I'm so

As another former GSI, I'm so glad that you took your "instructor" duties seriously. Attitudes like this are exactly why I left academia.

Golf for sure has a pace of Golf for sure has a pace of play problem, but like the doom and gloom about other sports it's hardly experiencing an existential crisis. In almost all cases, the demand curve (if you're not focused on one corse or one game or one team) hasn't changed much at all, but there's oversupply and/or prices have gone up significantly relative inflation. I was briefly part of the same exact conversations btwn the Maize Rage and the AD about attendance during the Amaker years. Ultimately, the AD needs to make it more feasible and enjoyable to attend games.
I will never forget watching

I will never forget watching Gabe Watson try to drive his Cadillac Escalade through a Greendwood Block Party

Cardamom, the Lunchroom, and Cardamom, the Lunchroom, and maaaybe Mani are the only places that could compete in their genres in actual cities.
Hard disagree. Golf is

Hard disagree. Golf is self-officiated, so saying the rules aren't enforced consistently means players are cheating. They so clearly don't at the elite level

Figure some insider can chime

Figure some insider can chime in, but Speight looks hurt to me.

Hard to tell for sure from TV angle, but it looks to me like his elbow is dropping ==> vertical inconsistency, which is probably happening because he's protecting his shoulder. He was pretty good before Colorado, he hurt his throwing shoulder, and he's been missing throws since.

Just avoid old dudes with Just avoid old dudes with cigars in the upper deck on the 50 yardline. And young women who turn around to scream "art fag U!"
Evidently, moar people on

Evidently, moar people on this site needed to take history classes at Michigan.

There's a fairly recent peer-reviewed scholarly book on the history of the Star Spangled Banner. Ya'll should check out it out from your local library: https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/content/star-spangled-banner

Also, great Michigan dachshund.

It's seriously unfortunate

It's seriously unfortunate that so many people get so uncomfortable at the thought that sports don't exist in a vacuum cut off from the rest of society

I seriously do not understand

I seriously do not understand how an anonymous "Michigan fan" on the internet can hate on a former player who put his life/body on the line so that beloved Michigan could win a national championship. If you disagree with his analysis, say so respectfully. Calling him "pretty arrogant" is not respectful of the free service he gave to the university. Keep it to yourself man

If you don't like Marcus Ray, If you don't like Marcus Ray, you must be only watching him on BTN and/or you weren't conscious in 1997.
Rankings work much the same Rankings work much the same way as the world golf rankings for pros. Performance in "counting events" gives you points, and players are ranked by point totals divided by some number, all adjusted for strength of field. Obviously an imperfect system, but amateur golf doesn't have a level playing field to begin with. Carlson isn't even close to the best player on the Michigan team though - he was apparently 5th in tournament scoring average last year. To sustain that level of performance across US Am qualifying, 36 holes of stroke play, and all those matches is absurd. The kid can play.
Quantity =/= quantity, but,

Quantity =/= quality, but, uh:

The torrent of hockey analysis that they put out while Michigan was in the NCAA tournament for hoops

+ the constant stream of claims that "this season is a disappointment" when we made the tournament without our 2 seniors (1 of whom has NBA talent) and almost beat a team that went on to the Elite 8. I guess it's a disappointment that Caris and Spike got hurt, but the fact that they still made the tournament is a hell of a coaching job by Beilein

+ the racially coded crap on the forum

= this is a bad site for Michigan Basketball, all in spite of the good reporting Ace does.

GUYS but how many games would

GUYS but how many games would Spike have played with Caris's injury? Probably ALL OF THEM. A guy with that kind of heart, grit, toughness, and IQ would have scored 20 ppg with the same foot injury, so I don't see how anyone is worried about some hips.

I especially love how many shots he puts up in the gym. Always first to show up, last to leave. We obviously need him more than any other player on the roster.

As if the difference

As if the difference completely changes our assessment of this team, their potential with Caris, and god forbid John Beilein's coaching career.

I guess when you're overly

I guess when you're overly concerned with regular season hockey, MGoVacation Horror stories, UFR stats (great post, bad timing) and general whining about how selfish Caris is, you'd hardly notice that Michigan just made the NCAA tournament without their 2 seniors, one of whom is an NBA 1st rounder.

MGoBlog comments: Your daily MGoBlog comments: Your daily source for basketball-related racial coding
Yeah those two guys have head Yeah those two guys have head coach written all over their skin. Not like Caris, Irvin, Walton, Dawkins, or Chatman, all of whom may have raw athleticism, quickness, and talent but lack the IQ, decision-making, leadership, heart, and grit needed to be a coach. Oh but can they leap out of the gym!
Does 3 years of playing

Does 3 years of playing football at UT not count as "professional work experience?" I'd beg to differ, Ross.

Yea man Novorossiia and the Yea man Novorossiia and the Luhansk People's Republic ain't got shit on Caris LeVert!
Slightly disagree. DB ran the Slightly disagree. DB ran the athletic department like a puppet CEO for a Leveraged Buyout Firm - aka what he did for Dominos and what he's doing for Toys R Us. When you manage a LBO, your goal is to restructure debt and increase short term cash flows, aka fire people. In Dominos case, they had a legacy founder who paid no attention to his financial statements. At Michigan, we had Bill MFing Martin.

DB seems like he's pretty good at firing people for no reason. The illiterate idiot also seems like he thinks that what worked at Dominos could just be cookie cutter applied to any organization, regardless of context
The rumor is that it was The rumor is that it was either Brandon or Nuss - not Hoke - who made the decision to bench Devin. Interpret that as you will
There have to be a lot more

There have to be a lot more variables than just "Hoke" and "DB" in that equation...

We'll never know exactly how the relationship between DB and Hoke worked, but it seems like a bit of a stretch to place the blame for the terrible offense-iveness on DB, even if DB was getting involved in personnel decisions in the last year or two. Micromanagers are usually also bad at dictating high level decisions

First post EVAR after reading

First post EVAR after reading for 9 years, but:

The book addresses this question - make sure you buy it! DB had a history of meddling in not just football but in almost every sport, and generally speaking it seems like those interventions served to undermine the coaches.
