Or else, Fickell is playing…

Or else, Fickell is playing a step ahead of them. He's got a short list of next destinations and MSU wasn't on it.

That's not to say that he couldn't do good things at MSU. By cleaning up a few things, he could get deserved credit for getting this program up to a respectable 9-3 or 10-2 level.

He's likely angling to replace Kelly at ND in the next couple of years. It's still a prestigious program- Catholic, Midwest, and not part of the B10 East.

And let's forget that ESPN…

And let's forget that ESPN had Les Miles taking over after Carr retired.

I was actually in his class-…

I was actually in his class- it won't be hard to identify me in the Clarion- and will verify your assessment. Not a friend of mine, either, and it would make for another dimension to my distain for Sparty- AND make Valenti's "head explode"  as he mused yesterday

Well, you would think that…

Well, you would think that Warde, and maybe even the Regents and/or Schissel would have a nice little bitch down with Delany after that nonsense.

But, then again, it's not like these clowns were unknown commodities and Michigan had no clue that they would be officiating..

Nice nostalgia, but gee,…

Nice nostalgia, but gee, this is as stale as seeing highlights of the 1984 Tigers World Championship. I remember that one, and yes, I even to see where I sat when Trammell's two homers flew right in front of me. But, really, it's well past time for replacement memories.

Expecting it this year is just too dangerous. But.. if JH can come up with a specific gameplan, like 2017, and Michigan finally collects on some due breaks..

Visitors usually occupy the…

Visitors usually occupy the top 10 rows of the SE corner. There were no Spartans there saturday.

It was kind of a pleasant…

It was kind of a pleasant amazement that the stadium was as clear as it was. Remember that there was abut 10 inches of the wet heavy stuff that fell and the temps didn't creep up about freezing until about 24 hours before game time. It was a bit of a freak storm- I can't recall ever getting this much this long before Thanksgiving. Most communities are still busy removing leaves at this time.

But yes, we still live in the upper midwest. You have to be prepared for this stuff.

The University screws up a lot of things on the game experience, but this was not one of them.

We should be seriously…

We should be seriously questioning our loyalties to Michigan if they don’t stick the knife in and turn it this weekend.

It seems to be a lot easier for a team to get its act together following a debacle in October than it is in November. Losing a 25-point lead at home in the 4th quarter requires a collapse in talent, character and leadership.

Sparty looks to be in full zombie mode. They can still be dangerous- so you have to take their heads off.

So, PLEASE at least have a gameplan designed specifically to demolish these clowns. Attack them on both sides of the ball from the get-go and keep hitting them. Even if BPONE kicks in and you turn it over and get burned on D, just keep it up and win by attrition.

Those uniforms tell you all…

Those uniforms tell you all that you need to know about Sparty's program. They didn't just show up as emergency fillers because the equipment bus fell into a ditch. A whole lot of people signed off on them and they should have all been sacked along the way.

But they should still wear them next week. Because losers could dress the part.

The Neville Chamberlain…

The Neville Chamberlain types in England were saying stuff like that about the Germans in 1938.

As much as we all hate the Bucks, they do deserve credit for controlling this conference since Tressel took over- and it's not like there haven't been challengers along the way.

Ohio isn't perfect, but they play solid fundamental football and have the talent and coaching to find ways to not have opportunities blow up in their faces.

Michigan used to be like that. They've been just the opposite of late, and until they prove otherwise, it seems like that's our fate.

I'd be much more worried…

I'd be much more worried about Sparty if this game was played in October. Their 2016 team was already showing signs of decomposition when Michigan came to town, but they were still able to muster some resistance in the second half. Granted, it was largely based on playing at the envelope of what the refs were allowing, but they did make it interesting.

The wheels pretty much fell off in the last month and they look like they can't wait for this season to be over. Dantonio's retirement announcement would only serve as motivation for Michigan, and Harbaugh should use this package up a nice little beatdown like the kind that they put together for Notre Dame. Only this would be more brutal, since the Irish actually had something to play for.

And who replaces Dantonio? Here's a potentially batshit crazy idea: former Spartan captain leaves the NFL to come home to be save his school's program Pat Shurmur..

Oddly, the only people that…

Oddly, the only people that seemed to be "coming home" were Michigan fans. They easily counted for 60% of the far from sold out crowd. Maryland couldn't even fill their place (which isn't bad, actually)) up on a pretty spectacular weather day. But at least they serve beer, almost everywhere and with lots of choices. Lots of locals and micros- they even had Two Hearted. It was just one per person with ID.  You kind of expect that in that state.

Anybody on that team that…

Anybody on that team that doesn't already know that is too dim to be much of a factor. Still, that's probably what he'll do. It will backfire, as he's already lost this team and Harbaugh will plan like he did for the Irish.  It would not surprise me if we put a 50 spot on them.

We'll see the reason for why…

We'll see the reason for why Maryland is in the Big Ten this weekend- cannon fodder for the entertainment of the Alums that live in the DC area.

Does Sparty  really save their best for Michigan?  Only when they've got decent (or better- as was during the RRod/Hoke era) talent and D'antonvalenti is able to bring up the ghost of "little brother" They look completely lost and defeated right now, that even an announced retirement is going to be met with more amusement than motivation.

Indiana, though- that's potentially scary. They've had an incredible amount of near misses against us, and I wouldn't be shocked if this is the year where they cash in on the karma that they have coming to them.

Is "Carrie Fisher" actually…

Is "Carrie Fisher" actually going to be in this? You guys do know she wasn't really a princess and she wasn't really all that great of an actress, either?

Umm, she's also been dead for a couple of years, so this is getting beyond creepy.

That was made all the worse…

That was made all the worse by non other than O.J Simpson acknowledging that while he was biased to USC even he thought it was a lousy call.

But at least that's something that would probably have been reversed in a replay.

Time to play..

Night game after a bye. People will forget about the QB issues. The defense will be hungry and Sparty will be reeling after losing to Iowa. Pretty much time for the real Wolverines to show up and send little brother back to his closet.

2000

Agree with all those that commented on the ugliness of the Illini fans. I can still hear the student, who clearly wasn't in this country when all the Bo/White hatred started, who ran up to me after the game and yelled "Michigan can suck my c***".  Classy sorts, those folks are.

Thankfully Northwestern doesn't have any fans that care, because that 54-51 debacle would have gotten real ugly. Especially since they got some pretty bad calls in their favor, like that offsides onside kick near the end of the first half.

How sad things have become...

This collection is made all the more gut wrenching by reminding us that there was, until very recently, a reason to care. And you weren't alone in caring: sparty, the buckeyes and all the other Michigan haters (which is pretty much most everyone else) cared enough to give you grief.  But you were Michigan and Michigan was still better than the crappy schools that most of them went to.

Now there have been a boatload of awful plays made in the Not-Careworthy era (which I attest started with Dennis Dixon's Harlem Globetrotters' appearance), but nobody calls anymore.
