I love me some JMFR, but top 1 or 2 %. He doesn't sniff those heights. Tom Harmon, Des Howard, and Chuck Woodson would disagree with Ryan being top 2%. I can think of 5 linebackers I'd rather have then him from the 90's on. Irons, Steele, Gold, Jones, and Larry Foote are guys if take over Jake Ryan. We just have been so bad at linebacker the last 9 ish years that a guy like Ryan looks so good to us now. He does fit this era of football with his combination of speed and size which I love.

Morris couldn't redshirt last year due to Bellomy's injury. This year he was in a QB battle all offseason with Gardner. So again how could you redshirt the guy that's number two on the depth chart. Until he sprained his ankle in the Minnesota game he would have been first man off the bench.

If Denards ulnar nerve doesn't go bad are those snaps really wasted. We were in the hunt for a big ten champ game birth till Nebraska.

It's getting harder and harder to read this blog, especially the head writers. All this emo doom and gloom is forcing me to look elsewhere for my Michigan obsession and its a shame. I generally like this blogs content, especially when it was about recruiting. But it makes me wonder why they don't have player interviews anymore.

I wonder what effect Desmond Morgan's injury had on this defense early in the year. I think bolden has played well, but haveing two seniors who have played a to together might have helped them with early season struggles.

I still think next year getting Harbaugh is a better option. I was reading an article showing player tweets, and they are all about how much they love playing for him. Plus how does San Fran tell their fans they are going to fire one of their most successful coaches of the last 15 years.

I liked the idea of your post, and was gonna write something more than just snark, but my bitterness got to me. Sorry, so here it goes.
First off I'm with Space and don't think we should run stunts except on obviouse passing downs. I Don't know much about DB coverages, but I think you have to play zone when we r between the 20s. When we have them backed up go man and try to pressure with various blitzes.
I think the big key to the game is when Poggi will be playing. Frank really hurt the team and has forced two positions into not being as good. Moveing Taco over to the weak side hurts the strong side. Urban will attack Poggi with zone read and it will be up to the coaches to use multiple defenses to stop this. By multiple I mean some downs we use the nickle back is assigned to the QB while Poggi has RB, or switch up with Playside linebackers.
NFL attacks zone read by crashing the D end down and useing line backers to cover the QB. I would teach the d end, when they read zone read, to use the linemans momentum and collapse the Line of scrimmage. And use both play side and backside linebackers to attack the runners. Play side takes QB and back side takes RB. Playing option teams is all about doing your assignment all the time.
I would also use Ross III over bolden. OSU doesn't have Hyde anymore so we need speed over power.

I like the qb oh no's as much as anybody. I just don't know how offenses don't get called for illegal man down field all the time. Or like Meyer's option pass he throws in with zone read. Both plays tend to have line man down field which should get flagged. But if the refs don't call it then keep running it.

I agree with undervaluing Borges, but I also don't think Nuss is terrible.

Watch how he threw the ball in the previous two years and watch how he throws this year. The coaches tend to keep arm injuries secret. Look at Denard when he had a staff infection in 2011, and when did his ulnar nerve injury happened. He was having trouble throwing even before the Nebraska game.

Everyone knows what's changed. It's been obvious all year including the app state game. Gardner has an undisclosed injury that prevents Nuss from attacking teams vertically.

I got it, we put Molly in the tattoo ink and call the NCAA for the "random" drug test. Then it look like they have a rampant drug culture. But Gene Smith would probably find a way to allow his players to play anyway.

While I like some of you defensive philosophies your missing one crucial element. It's the Lawrence Taylor pregame scheme. I would employee hookers armed with kilos of coke. Everyone knows no buckeye can resist this combination of sluttiness and speed. After the cocaine high wears off, high noon on Saturday will be very early and surly lead to a wolverine victory.

I'm not trying to get into an argument over RR. We don't need a 10000 post thread. My point is there are lot of dirty football programs out there and Michigan doesn't want to be one of those. That's why, in my opinion, they want a coach that will win without being dirty. It's hard to find those coaches right now especially when the fan base only wants a "big name" coach.

Look how college football has changed in the last decade. Just about every big time program is linked to some kind of rules violation. Auburn, Oregon, USC, FSU, UNC, the list goes on and on and on. This, in my opinion, is why Michigan wants a Michigan Man. The university still believes in winning the right way in a world that everyone is cheating.
RR had a hard time recruiting the players he wanted because guys like Demary Dorsey couldn't make it through the admission department. Do you think Pac Man Jones would have made it in Ann Arbor, that's the kind of player RR liked. Guys that have that edge that comes from a rough back ground. I know Michigan uses the NCAA minimum to let players in, but how many other schools out there are willing to fudge some numbers to go below that standard to get a guy on campus.

First do you think teams can get better or worse during the course of the year? I think defensively we have gotten better and this last week has shown Indiana and Northwestern are probably better then what we thought when we played. I know they are not the Buckeyes im not trying to say that, but they aren't MAC level schools either.
To compare us to Alabama is just unfair to any coach. Do I think we can get there, I don't know, they have a lot of advantages being in the SEC. (Over signing for years is one, I think we can figure out others $$$ mostly). But they landed last year 5 Jabril Peppers level recruits on defense alone. If we had those type of players I don't think anyone would be complaining about coaching because we would have so much more talent then anyone else we play on our schedule.
Again MSU's players have been practicing that defense the entire time they have been on campus. All 44 combined years they have been on campus. I don't know how to word this, but what age would you assign to a player that is just learning a new system? I would argue probably 1.5 or 2 depending on if they are a senior and already has a lot of technique down, and is just simply learning scheme. Or if he is like a freshman/sophomore type player and needs to learn technique over scheme I would assign them a 1. Those are just arbitrary numbers but I do think years on campus should somehow be adjusted for learning a new scheme.
We started teaching bump and run coverage this offseason. The d-line that hasn't gone through such a shift in philosophy has been good all year. We have been getting torched early in the air cause Ryan wasn't getting enough depth in his zone and it also takes game reps to get good at bump and run.
It's a lot more glaring of an issue on the offense, but they have ran the ball better this year. A lot of the offensive problems are because of QB play.
I do like that sight you provided I have looked at it too in the past.
|1 week 3 days ago||Your getting better at this||
Your getting better at this and actually bringing facts into your arguments. So thank you. Don't just say the coaches suck... Back it up with something.. So I'll give you a silly +1.
But OSU actually has around 17 seniors on this team not including kickers and Miller. Thats actually a good mix of players you need to win. Teams need more than just starters to be good. Ask coaches (like Space Cyote, and Magnus) how important your scout team is to the development of your starters. Please show me another team that is good that is only graduating 7 players. If you can do that, then you win this argument.
|1 week 3 days ago||I like you... You got some||
I like you... You got some spunk..
MSU has about the same mix of three and four star players we have on defense. Plus all his players are rs juniors and rs seniors. We have one rs senior on defense so they have a bunch of guys a whole year older, and they have been practicing the defense they run for the entire time these players have been in school.
If you didn't read the blog at the beginning of the year I will enlighten you..... We switched defensive schemes. So our players have only been practicing this defense less than a year. Guess what practice does make a difference, and this defense held Gordon ( who just had a 300 yard game with the same issues at qb that Indiana had when we played them) to around 100. Also did you see how NW just had a pretty good offensive day against ND.

When you only loose four players on a 22 man 2 deep, that is young. I don't understand why you can't see this. We return more people on this team than just about anyone in the country.
Next year we have a down grade replacing Clark
