I don't think you can compare records. It is more when the success comes. Charlie had his best year in his first year with the "horrible" talent that Willingham brought in. After his first two years his record went south.
RichRod should show some nice improvement next year and from there he will be alright.
Status of one of my Granger, IN friends on Facebook today:

I live near ND but on the Michigan side of the line. It is probably 70:30 ND to Michigan ratio here but as you head north the ND effect quickly fades.
The only thing I get when wearing Michigan gear is friendly ribbing. I did catch some crap last year wearing a "Michigan Dad" shirt to the ND/Purdue game.
I was very confused on the blitz call on that play. Play to prevent a TD, give up 3 points and it's a win.
Overall I think that the D played well, a welcome relief.
I missed this play on the radio while driving in north central Indiana. I was listening to the game through the static since the signal was horrible. The ball was snapped and I heard Beckman's voice start to rise and then massive static.
I immediately called my brother and his first words were, "can you believe it!". Oh, the joy of AM radio.
