Interesting that some of you…

Interesting that some of you wannabe comedians can’t seem to figure out that Michigan’s hockey coach contract is up this week and his name is Mel.
Anyone else think that BC is taking their time in replacing York? Maybe it is because they are waiting on another name coach to become available?

They are all organized there. Special section with all the True Links Course photo’s.

The front nine at Royal…

The front nine at Royal County Down is the best stretch of all the 850 exceptional, worldwide, golf courses I have experienced. Played in 49 states,10 countries, with over 100 rounds on True Links courses and have 75,000 golf photos to show for it. Was to play the 50th last year but due to COVID have yet to make it back to Hawaii. Hoping, I live long enough to play 1000.

Seth, do some digging and…

Seth, do some digging and tell us the truth about what really happened that caused Mann’s exit. You are correct that it was a surprise. Look inside.

I’ve been saying the same…

I’ve been saying the same for years. The usual response is how could you say that, he won a NC. The worst thing that ever happened to Michigan football was Lloyd Carr!!

C-A greatest player to UM?? Remember Jon Runyan the all time HS sleeper and probably the best FB player from Flint since Rick and Gene Johnson. Gene was recruited from the C-A district to join Rick at Flint SW. Not many others have come out of Flint since the 70’s
That’s three since Rick. I enjoy reading your comments and posts Magnus. Thanks for your input.

Patilla was also from C-A but didn’t last long at UM.

Do not get me wrong “Big Mike” is a good kid. As you know, sometimes you make an offer to get into the school to have a better shot at future players coming down the pipeline.
Clarkston BB game If you get a chance watch the C-A / Clarkston BB tournament game. Biggest game of the year and this kid did not want to play. His coach put him on the bench and C-A gets blown out. I saw the same during FB season. Maybe someone can light his fire at UM but he is a risk.

In the past 40 years we have got about 1 out of 10 players from Flint compared to MSU. Since Rick Leach who have we pulled out of Flint?? My bet is he goes to state.
Seen him play in both FB And BB. Needs to give a more consistent effort. Sometimes the switch is turned off and he is a no show. Has “potential” with his size but No great loss if we don’t get him.
Black Flies!! Unfortunately, if it is a warm calm day in June you may be attacked by these little bastards. Stay out of the woods. I suggest going in the middle of August when they have disappeared. Otherwise the U.P. Is a great place to visit.
Rick Carter is available Sharp young coach from Midwest who has Great player rapport. Nice resume as Associate head coach at Depaul, Xavier, Missouri and only 38 years old. Brilliant game planner who JB knows. He would be a great fit. Only negative is he started out as grad asst at MSU.
Interesting turn of events Bacari had the inside track for the UD job until he asked for a SEVEN yr contract. Last Friday UD reopened the search and supposedly were looking at five other candidates. Will see how many years he ends up with if this report is true.
They are both gone BA to UD. LJ to Mil.
Spike will NOT be back at UM JB has told him there is no scholarship for him next year. If he is healthy he will be playing in the Big East.
I have Great Old UM footage

1979-2000 Michigan replays and games on video

Seth- Old VHS tapes

I have every Michigan Replay show starting with the 1979 season for about 20 years, mostly commercial free, on VHS. Also have most all the MSU< OSU< ND< Bowl games during that period. I mentioned this to Magnus a couple of years ago and didn't get a response, so make me an offer I can't refuse.

The Old QB

Zero chance I renew after nearly 50 years

My first home game was MSU in 1961, we lost 28-0. I have attended nearly 300 games since and had season tickets for most of those years. I travel a minimum of 7 hours drive and once I am in Florida for the winter much more to make it to the games. I have probably spent a half million dollars following the Wolverine football teams from Hawaii, Rose Bowl, and every stadium in the big 10.

It finally hit me while at this years Penn State game. Why the hell do I continue to torture myself watching these dedicated young men not being given a fair chance to win a game with inept coaching. The Saturday football experience just isn't the same as what it was. Years of a declining product, Lloyd Carr, Dave Brandon schemes, Al Borges, Hoke thinking he looks tough standing in the cold in short sleeves, blaring rap music, maybe I am just getting old. But this is the end of the line for me.

255 and counting

The first one was the 1961 UM-MSU game. Sat on the 40 yd line on the SW side of the stadium. We lost 28-0. It was a big thrill to be at a game with 103,000 fans. The Wolverines were 6-3 that year under Bump Elliot. My favorite seats are in the Board of Regents Box.

Golden handshake for Rush??

Anyone notice as Rush walked the sideline after the play, of the high five he got? Taking one of our best players out of the game last year and now targeting Denard this year would it suprise anyone of a bounty for Michigan stars.

What a pathetic explanation by Gholston of his actions that led to his dirty plays. "Youthful inexperience", my butt!!!

More pathetic was the lack of any meaningful acknowledgement coming out of the mouths of the two OSU announcers. Speilman, "Looked like some kind of a big time wrestling move." when Gholston tried to take Denards head off.

Visiting fans & Presidents Club

They disperse the visiting fans around the very top of the stadium in sections 7 thru 9 or 10.

My first year out of U of M, Paul Goebel (UM All-American and All-Pro) called me up and encouraged me to become a member of the Presidents Club. One of the best moves I ever made. If you are in need of tickets they will always find you a pair. I have had season tickets for longer than most of you are old, but if I need an extra set no problem.

So how does one come up with 30K the first year after graduation? Buy a 20 year life insurance policy made out to the University of Michigan. At the time I took my policy out it was only a $250 annual premium. It will open many doors for you and get you started into the habit of annual gifting back to the University.

Once that wonderful degree, you have attained from UM, starts producing the big bucks you can up your donations. Whether it be 10 years or 30 years until you feel comfortable to increase your contributions you have your self covered when the Alumni office calls you up asking for donations. In the meantime all your buddies will have thought you hit the lotto by becoming a member of the Presidents Club.

GO BLUE

Next three seasons

At my age, long term is 3 years. Realistically, looking at our tough schedule and factoring in an improving team I see a total of at least 15 losses for  2011,2012, and 2013.  This number  includes any bowl games we may play in.

How many of you are going to be satisified averaging 5 losses a year? With Nebraska added I would hope DB would think about getting out of the ND game soon.

Lloyd is the worst thing that ever happened to Michigan FB!

LC

I could write a short story on how we got to this point in time starting at NMU when Lloyd was an English major. Lloyd should have never got a chance to be HC. He was DC of the worst defense we ever had and is named interim HC.

DB was endorsed by Lloyd for the AD job so you knew he was going to be loyal to LC and hire Hoke, just as LC was loyal to Gary and has blocked Les from ever getting an offer to coach at UM.

I don;t know if I totally agree with you

I don't know if I totally agree about LM being the main man in your theory but I really like your point about JH being a future hire.

JH goes to the pro's and gets canned or burnt out dealing with the pro players, by that time Les Miles has got the program back on track and is ready to retire. JH can come back and doesn't have to go through the rebuilding phase and is able to reap the rewards of LM's hard work. He has made the big bucks, satisfied his urge to coach in the NFL, and finishes off his coaching career in AA with a few NC's.

GOBLUE!!

If my memory is correct

If my memory is correct I recall that his original contract at LSU had an exclusion for U of M should he want to return to AA. Obviously, he didn't care if he ever returned to UM after the sailboat incident or didn't have the leverage to place that language in his contract extention. Having a buy out exclusion for a specific school is not that unusual.

Buyout clause?

Surprised that there is a buyout. Would have thought Les would have had language in contract if he jumped to UM.

If JH stays at Stanford, UM keeps RR

As I have stated previously, JH is the one who has been dictating the timeline here. I have total faith in DB that he has all the bases covered. He has left all his options open by waiting until after the bowl game. I feel much more comfortable with DB at the helm than I did with the Bean Counter.

We should not be totally distraught if JH stays at Stanford for one more year. We still have a chance to get him after next season as long as we don't fire RR. We know for sure that if RR is retained there will be major changes on the D staff. This will show that the evaluation process was not totally fruitless.

Why does JH stay one more year at Stanford? Timing. Why disrupt the family right now with a newborn, Luck comes back he has a shot a National Championship, potential NFL lockout next year means he sits and has wasted a year not coaching if he choose that route, and maybe Jim has just a bit of resentment for some at Michigan and will not jump at the first chance to come back. Bottomline his value will not be any less next year and he will have an immediate chance to even enhance it with a National Championship.

Just speculation from and old UM Man.

Sal you saying Tate didn't make that statement?

Read the FP article on Tate!

Direct quote from Tate
"You really have to try to flunk out here. All you have to do is go to class, it's not that hard"

Tate is no dummy

This is just a way for Tate to ease his way off the team and get back at RR one last time. Classless way to leave but what goes around comes around.

Why don't you ask Bacari

Western Michigan was one of the schools big brother was trying to get little John into. I am sure if you asked Bacari he would confirm that WMU did not want him and the last place Al wanted John to end up at was Michigan.

If Al loved U of M so much he would have enrolled at U of M himself. This is no conspiracy theory, or BS, as 99.9 % is on this site.

funny

Al Horford tried to find any place other than UM to take his little brother. No takers, so we got him.

TP says he paid for his

But did he pay full value? Having paid $50 for a $500 tattoo is just as much of a violation as paying zero.

Will be interesting on how this plays out. But I suspect that the NCAA/OSU will not have enough information to take action before the Bowl game. The players involved end up being suspended for the first game of 2011.

Think Cam Gordon @ S

Rodereick Ryles reminds me a lot of Cam Gordon when he was playing safety. Enough said.

1st DP drive 3Q

Hart runs three times for 8 yds. Punt

Hart in 1st half had 14 runs for 32 yds, Patti 6/13 for 152 yds

Thanks

I agree it will be interesting to watch what adjustments DP makes at halftime. Right now the MO is with Central. I have watched DP last three playoff games and am concerned if they can hold on to this one. They are a dynamite 3Q team so hopefully they turn this around and figure out how to get Dee Hart open. He has great hands, they need to try and get him more into the pass game out of the backfield.

Halftime update on DP game

DP is playing Miami Central at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando. There are over 20 D1 prospects in this 6A Finals game. Centrals Davonta Freeman ran for 354 yd in the Semi game. Dee Hart with 2185 yds rushing and 50 TD leads DP. Clinton-Dix of DP is the best player on the field.

1st Q- Nick Patti hit Chris Gallon with a 29 yd pass to make it 6-0. Patti's 31st TD pass against 2 INT. Moffitt made the PAT 7-0. He consistantly kicks it 75 yards on the KO. Central had 40 yds of penalties that sustained this drive for DP. Ryan Luckett has a 60 yd INT for DP, PAT good 14-0.

2nd Q- Moffitt 33 yd FG. 17-0. Randall 30 yd TD reception for Central. 17-7. Gaines Jr. 18 yd INT for Central 17-14. DP receiver seemed to have no clue what was happening on this play and stood there with his back turned. Gallon 50 yd TD from Patti. PAT good 24-14. Freeman 18 yd TD reception for Central 24-21. Freeman was all this drive and has over 100 yds.

Dee Hart totally shut down, as Central has 6 in the box and will not allow anything inside on the ground. Patti should be able to throw all day.

Wishful thinking.

Has anyone ever heard Casteel say or heard any type of rumor that he would like to work for RR again? He has had two chances to climb on board, when RR was first hired and a year later when Shafer was fired. If he was going to come he would have been here by now.

Money may help get him, but I doubt it. Working under RR as a DC is not a prime job opportunity for an established name, even if it is Michigan. Three years and he will have gone through two DC's. Job security is a factor for these guys and with RR's track record and precarious position as HC the line is not long for potential new hires. He has made two new hires on D- a grad asst, and a guy out of work and desparate for a job.

Why did Casteel not follow RR?

One would think that if Casteel wanted to continue working under RR he would have followed him here in the first place. He had another chance after RR fired Schafer to come and didn't. I wouldn't get my hopes up for him coming.

OT-Dee Hart 12/10 game

Sorry, but since I have yet to earn enough browny points I can not yet start a diary. Thought it would be of interest to report on tonights Dr.Phillips game against Seminole.

In the 6A state semi game DP won 37-13. Dee Hart started off the game with a 78 yard run to tie the state single season TD record at 49. He would later in the 2nd half run in a short one for his record breaking 50th TD. Dee ended the game with 159 yards on 17 carries. I don't have the final numbers on receptions, but this kid has great hands. He can do it all !!!! The AD at DP said he is the hardest working player on the team.

Shawn Moffet their kicker had his string of PAT's snapped at 130, four short of the national record. After a second penalty had set them back 20 yards he was upset and shaking his head. The negative body language followed through to his attempt and he missed it a bit right. He did make his only FG attempt at about 30 yds which had at least 25 yards to spare. We could use this kid.

Next week DP plays in the Citrus Bowl for their first State Championship. They are 14-0 and have only given up 6 points this season in the 3rd Q. This was only the 4th team to score over 10 points on them and it came in the last minute of play. Seminole, the 2008 State Champ, tried for the 2 point conversion which was INT. Someone must have been getting 23 points on their staff.

There will be a new DC

I flew up from Fl for the last home game and by chance ended up talking to a guy who used to coach at USF with three of the current UM coaches. They had arranged tickets and a room at the Campus Inn for him and his friends. He wanted to see a UM game before everyone got fired. Said they were all afraid of getting the ax. If they didn't, for sure there would be changes made by RR on the D. I questioned him on who would ever want to coach D under RR. His reply was $$$$$$.

Amazing Player

I watched Dr. Phillips game last evening. Anytime Dee Hart touches the ball he can take it to the house. Had two TD's called back due to holding calls, if not for those he would have had over 300 yds on the ground. Ran about 30 yds on a 4th and 15. Made one of the most miraculous catches out of the backfield I have ever seen. One handed off his shoestrings.

There were 3-4 times he totally faked out at least 6 guys on a play. He has this burst, then a bit of a glide and a shift to the side than another burst and he weaves his way down the field. His top end speed is very close to Denard. Ended up with 2 TD's and on the downside, he did fumble twice.

Phillips has steam rolled everyone this year but got off to a bad start and was behind 14-0 due to a 74 yd run and a Patti INT. Was 17-14 at half and I think it ended at 38-28. This team is loaded with talent, I counted at least 9 D1 prospects. Reminds me of the Lakeland team a few years ago that had Rainey, and the Pouncey brothers. There are about a half dozen studs on the D at DP. Three of them could step right in and play next fall at UM.

One kid that really impressed me was their kicker=Moffett. He not only kicks everyone into the endzone but most of them are 5 yds out of the endzone. He made one FG of 50 that had a good 15 yds left on it. He is a lanky kid that looks like he should be in Chemistry class not playing FB. In fact maybe that is how he kicks so far-Flubber.

After the game Dee did not mention anything about decommitting. He is a very well spoken young man and seems to have his head on straight. I predict that he will someday be an All-American. Would love to see him at MICHIGAN.

PS   Seminole Ridge , Dr Phillips opposition last night had uniforms identical to OSU. Even down to the helmet stickers. I had a warm feeling being able to root for a team who was beating an OSU look alike. I only hope I can see my team in Maize and Blue with the winged helmets do the same in the very near future. GOBLUE!!!!

3.2 BILLION with a B

What most of the people on this site have no idea of is how much money is raised by the "Old Alums". I see many negative comments about us from people who have never attended The University of Michigan or even set foot on the campus.

I was involved in the most recent capital campaign and when I ask people how much do you think was raised? Typical answer is 2 million maybe 10 million. They are blown away when I tell them it was 3.2 BILLION $$$$.

The highlight for a lot of us Old Alums are football weekends. I personally have been back to about 250 games and travel anywhere from 450 miles to 1300 miles to attend. It always is more enjoyable to see a victory than the losses to MSU, Iowa, and Wis I endured this past season. A championship team sure does help when it comes time to ask for donations.

The generosity of the Old Alums is one of the important things that makes The University of Michigan one of the greatest public colleges in America today. I would hope that the next time you think about making disparaging remarks about us, you realize what the University would be without us giving back to UM.

Arrogance in AA

Maybe that is why some people take AA to mean something other than Ann Arbor.

I was not equating my alma mater to WVU, but bringing up a character issue of RR. Hard for me to believe that RR will not be jumping ship at UM some time in the future when he walked out on his own alma mater, WVU. That was his original dream job.

He will eventually find that there are places other than UM to coach. I would not be surprised if he is not currently looking at other opportunities. Anyone have flight tracker??

GOBLUE

disagree

The reason DB is waiting until after the season is not because he has any intention of trying to pay less $$ in a buyout.

To say that DB would have already HAD to fire RR when the NCAA made their ruling is totally incorrect. You think he is going to give him the hook mid-season?? RR role in the first ever NCAA violation of MICHIGAN FB, is a major consideration in DB's evaluation.

He left WVU.

Typical coach speak when taking a new job. He left his "dream job" at WVU. What makes you think he is going to stay here forever?

Agree

I like the way DB is playing his hand.

Those recruits that are sold on THE UNIVERSITY of MICHIGAN will stay.

UM will not be paying any buyout

I will bet you the $1.5 million that RR will not be paid any buyout.

Not DB's timetable

DB is not the one who is controlling the timetable here. Don't expect an announcement the minute after UM's bowl game is complete. If a new coach is being hired you will have to wait  a little longer.

DB Stalling??

I agree with your points, but you may want to look at it from a different angle. DB is an sharp businessman. Why think about paying a buyout when you may be able to get rid of RR for nothing or even have another college pay you? This could be a NET GAIN of several million $$$ for the Athletic Dept.

Waiting now until after the bowl season has many more postives than negatives. DB is not going to ruin the Team banquet this week by making any moves and disrupting it for the players. Makes sense that their coach ,RR, be there.

It may be a game of cat and mouse we are watching. In a business deal always try and let the person across the table make the first offer. DB has very little to lose by waiting. If he has a coach lined up it takes the heat of that coach until after his bowl game. Keeping the current staff allows continuity and the players to focus on the task of winning a bowl game.

Rumors are rampant as to what is going to happen. I have no idea, but watch what Miami does in the near future. If they don't make any annoucements, maybe RR is their man and they will have to wait on DB's time table or make the first move.
