|22 hours 35 min ago||Would like to see!||
I'd like to see Michigan play a home and home with Nebraska in non-B1G years. Obviously, I'd rather see the Texas' and Oklahoma's of the world, but if I had to settle for a one off with Hawaii or home and home with Nebraska, you obvioulsly know what I'd rather see in a September primetime game.
|1 day 19 hours ago||Good pickup.||
Why you ask? Because this kid has 12 guys to pass in 2016 after a redshirt in 2015. This is great for depth, will give him ample opportunity to develop, and is a low risk/high reward pickup this late in the game.
|1 week 1 day ago||Would be a big get.||
I. Marshall, M. Weber, C. Clark, R. Smith would make this class infinitely better instantaneously. Add in a couple under the radar guys and I'd be ecstatic. Come on down KLS and Wheatley Jr.
|1 week 1 day ago||Don't count on Glenville.||
Michigan isn't getting any of the elite recruits from Glenville. Ohio State gets their pick from there. Then the best we can do is get whatever is left ala Frank Clark, Willie Henry. That could change with winning on a consistent basis, but considering the fact that U-M hasn't won a Big Ten Championship since these kids were 6-7 years old, I wouldn't get my hopes up for any Gleville 4/5 stars heading North.
|1 week 2 days ago||Alabama.||
They definitely have a staff that is up there. The recruiting prowess by Saban, Kiffin, Christobal (FIU's old HC), Lance Thompson, and Kirby Smart is pretty much unmatched in college football. You throw in the fact that they've been so successful in the past and have one of the best offensive minds in the game in Kiffin and that is pretty much the standard.
I think Harbaugh, Durkin, Mattison, Fisch and Wheatley (among the others) can match that, but they have to get it done on the field. Ohio State's staff is also solid even with the loss of Herman.
|1 week 5 days ago||The system isn't perfect.||
No system is. Tennessee was a play in team in March Madness last year. They made it all the way to the sweet 16 and nearly beat U-M.
|1 week 5 days ago||It worked out well.||
Harbaugh got a job with the 49ers and went to the Super Bowl with a dude named Kaepernick playing QB. His other QB, Andrew Luck, is probably going down a one of the best in NFL history when it's all over with.
|1 week 6 days ago||Johnson.||
I'd personally like to see Dior Johnson hop aboard, and truthfully, I'd like to see Harbaugh make a push at Kyle Kearns (4 star QB from CA, uncommitted with low offer sheet), or one of Florida State's three committed QB's. I know stars aren't always the best indicator, but signing a big number of four stars in three weeks couldn't hurt Harbaugh's momentum at Michigan.
|1 week 6 days ago||Zordich.||
Like the hire. PSU All-American, 12 year NFL vet, 5 years at Cardinal Mooney in OH, 4 years as an NFL coach, 1 year of college coaching experience. Looks like an intense guy. Should relate well with JABRILL and IMAN (see what I did there?)
|1 week 6 days ago||Well let's not lie about it.||
We're not really screwed. If he can teach any TE to block for 1.2 seconds, that would be an upgrade over what they did in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Kyle Kearns||
What's the deal with him? California, 6'2, 180, 4 stars to Rivals, and his offer list is significantly lacking (SMU, UC Davis)? I somewhat thought he'd be a prime target for Harbaugh.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||We're back.||
Get used to this feeling. Going to be a lot of W's in the near future.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Per our debate in the Iman Marshall thread.||
Probably should redshirt. That's what the elite programs like Iowa, Oklahoma State, and Minnesota do.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Red shirts.||
I know we have this conversation a lot on the board, but redshirts are truly a waste of time if you want to be an elite program with elite players. Michigan, like Ohio State, should not have to worry about "burning redshirts." Urban has done quite well with the "We don't redshirt players" mantra, and I'm a firm believer that "blue blood programs" shouldn't have to.
Redshirts are great for the Sparties, Minnesotas and Wisconsins of the world who have to develop three star guys. Michigan recruits elite talent that should be ready to go from day one ala Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, and USC. No excuse for Dymonte. He was a track star in a safeties body and didn't need a redshirt physically to be a backup safety.
The University of Tennessee just went 7-6 with 24 freshmen playing and basically everyone in their two deep as an underclassmen, and I can assure you they looked like a good football team down the stretch. That's what happens when you bring in a new coach (Butch Jones) that recruits elite talent. You play them, develop them, and let them learn.
Fortunately for us, we are in a different situation than UT. We have most all of our elite recruiting class starters back from a year ago unlike the Dooley/Jones Tennessee transition. We have starters that were all highly coveted out of high school, and our elite recruits under Harbaugh should be ready to go in the two deep to challenge them from day one. That's how you win championships - like Alabama and Ohio State.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Would be huge.||
Lewis, Peppers, Countess, Marshall, Richardson, Stribling doesn't sound half bad at all. Hopefully Jarrod Wilson and (maybe) Dymonte can finally "get it" this year and turn up their game to a different level.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||IMAN MARSHALL||
That would be a huge get if Harbaugh and company can reel him in. I would think Harbaugh, Mattison, Durkin, and Jackson will be all over this for the next few weeks. Would love to see Mora take an NFL gig and open it back up for KLS!
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Miami||
The fans there actually liked him - which says a lot because they hate all their current coaches.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Miami fans really liked him.||
Judging by Twitter comments on the reported story, Miami fans really liked him and think this is an excellent hire if true. Also helps that he has recruited the Midwest and South Florida.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||The Jags.||
Denard did well in his offense, but let's be clear, he was working with a rookie QB, second year RB, and two rookie WR's in Jacksonville - not exactly a sure fire way to success in the NFL.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||It's an NFL thing.||
I believe it's more of an NFL thing. This way you have basically co-coordinator's that devise the gameplan each week and they also coach a position group which levels the responsibilities for a staff, so you could be looking at something like this:
HC - Harbaugh
QB - J. Dougherty
RB - Wheatley
RGC/OL - Drevno
PGC/TE - Jedd Fisch
WR - John Morton
DL - Mattison
DC/LB - Durkin
DB - Greg Jackson
ST - John Baxter
So, Manning may in fact be an odd man out, unless Wheatley doesn't come and Harbaugh looks to him. Obviously, that's all speculation based on me not knowing anything.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||A few things have happened to give us hope.||
1. Ohio State beat Alabama and we were playing with Ohio State until the 4th quarter.
2. We in essence had Luke Fickell coaching us last year. Next year, we have Urban Meyer for comparison's sake. Ohio State: 6-7 under Luke Fickell. 12-0 first year under Meyer. I don't think anyone expects that from Harbaugh, but most recognize we have two top seven recruiting classes coming back as upper classmen next year along with a sophomore class that had a top 15 cumulative star ranking average + a freshman class that should look decent by signing day.
3. We return everyone of significance besides Funchess, Beyer, Ryan, and Frank Clark. QB play (I hate to say it couldn't get any worse than we had last year) should be better.
That is why I really think 2015 could be a lot of fun. It's a bit of a tough schedule when you look at the schedule: @Utah, Oregon State under Gary Anderson, @Penn State, Michigan State, Ohio State. It will be a challenge, but I'm not betting against a solid season. I'd go over on the 8.5 wins.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||This team.||
This team is about as frustrating as it gets. They don't really defend well. They don't move the ball well on offense. They don't shoot well. They don't rebound at all. They don't get to the rim and when they do they miss layups.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Today.||
Today is a pretty big day for the Big Ten vs SEC debate. While it may not look like much, Tennessee vs Iowa is a huge game. Proponents of the SEC say their conference's bottom teams are better than the Big Ten's middle of the road teams which makes it vastly superior. Tennessee has definitely been a lesser SEC team through the last decade. Iowa has been a middle of the road Big Ten team.
Iowa wins, that thought can go out the window. Tennessee wins, and the SEC still goes 2-2 vs the Big Ten in bowl season. 3-3 on the year as Mizzou last to IU but Wisconsin lost to LSU during the regular season. I'm actually pumped for that Tennessee/Iowa game to be honest.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Not crazy about the hire if true.||
Not going to lie, I'm not crazy about the hire. Would be a great offensive line coach hire, but let's be honest, the guy hasn't called a play as an OC since 2006. The game and defenses are quite a bit different seven years later.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Braxton.||
His best bet would be Oregon or Texas for a year. Jimbo and Florida State like to stretch the field vertically in the pass game and, umm, let's just say Braxton doesn't do that very well.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed.||
But receiver shouldn't really be an issue next year: Darboh, Chesson, Canteen, Harris, Cole should be as good, if not better than, almost any group in the Big Ten next year outside of Ohio State's group.
The biggest issue we have currently besides quarterback is TE. We have JB (who is good), but after that we have a bunch of upper classmen that don't do anything right. Williams and Heitzman can't block and aren't receiving threats. Bunting is small and strictly a receiving threat. Khalid Hill does just enough to be serviceable.
We definitely need Clark and another TE recruit like Wheatley to step in next year and help out.
|4 weeks 22 hours ago||Harbaugh basketball speech?||
What will he say? Will there be an Ohio State reference? Will there be a Mark Dantonio reference? Will he single handedly lead the basketball team to a victory tomorrow night? I cannot wait!
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Honestly.||
I've been waiting for a good reason to throw that back at him for eleven months. It's finally happening haha!
