Doubleheader openings!

If they want to do a 2-3, they should do a doubleheader. Ticket sales would probably do great if they had a morning game, then a night game. It should be done on a Saturday or Sunday, and bring a lot of excitement. The players would hate this though.

Best chances...

Since the Big 10 leads all conferences with the most teams in the bowls, with 10, we will either have the best chance to get the most wins or the most losses for that matter.

OSU

OSU pulled off perhaps the most stunning win of the year. OSU has not won many games against OU, but their best win over OU was a 47-0 in 1945. OSU only has 17 wins and 82 losses and 7 ties with OU, and most wins are in the single digit margins.

OU is a top 10 team, and was manhandled tonight, while Bama did nothing this week, so the voters will have to put OSU 2nd ahead of Bama. I don't know what's the worst margin of loss among all the top 10 teams at the time of the loss, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the worst top 10 loss this year.

I would.

I would take him back. The positives I see is that all the players would stay and we would pick up Dee Hart, Kris Frost and others. BUT I would have prefered a new DC. RR still does not have all the pieces of the puzzle he needs, therefore, he is not yet able to get the players he need to adapt to the Big 10. The shortest coaching reign in Michigan was 5 years I believe, but Michigan lied to all of their recruits/players by denying them the chance to be with their coach for 4 years! *gasp*

I personally like the thought of seeing how Denard progresses under RR and seeing our top 10 offense get better next year. I think defense is going to improve next year, no matter what because we just hit a perfect storm where we didn't have our best players available on defense.

Impossible!

Michigan and Nebraska are in the same division, so Michigan could only play PSU, Ohio St, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin or Purdue for the Big 10 championship. :) And..the question is...is it moral to play NCAA football especially when we have no coach!! No coach, who will teach the players the right path in life???  :)

got moral?

The moral people will finish the story for you.

hmm

I assume your parents never taught you the right/wrong way to use the word "your" and "you're?"

Suppose Les Miles was trying to do the "right" thing by making sure more kids could join his team, but *GASP* the evil NCAA empire would not allow it, thus Les had to do the bad thing and cut him?

Do tell, if you were in a highly paid position like a coach making a million dollars a year and an accident occured at a game or practice where your player was hurt, blinded and soon dying...and you comforted this kid...then this kid said..."dad, is that you?" Do you say "yes" or "no" to the kid, knowing that he was going to die anyways? Do you say "yes" and let the kid die being comforted, or do you become immoral and say "no" because you believe it is the wrong thing to lie and let a kid die in agony knowing his dad was not there comforting him? Do you even lie and say "I love you" to the kid when you really don't? You tell me what the right and wrong thing to do is, and I will lie and do the wrong thing by letting a kid know his dad was the one comforting him and die in peace, because I can live with that decision, regardless of whether people think it was the right or wrong thing to do. Do you kill 1 person to save the lives of 1 million people? Or do you say no I won't kill 1 person, but I'll let 1 million people die? Oh wait, we need have this question asked of all Michigan coaches in the future!!

Santa Claus

Every parent that tells their kids that Santa exists has no morals!!! They are lying to kids!!!!!! THAT IS "almost" like FRAUD!!

Smart or high horse?

Suppose a parent told you that the only way you could get his/her 5 star #1 overall prospect was to say that this kid would be a guaranteed starter in the first game. Would you lie and say yes? You would be lying because you know you can't guarantee a starting position but you figure the odds may be very low that you are lying, so you do it anyways.

Dating and recruiting are essentially the same thing, you are pimping yourself and the school to be a great mate to the girl/recruit, so you lie about certain things at first in order to make a point to prove down the road that you are not so bad after all. Do you think every kid is going to love practice and do you think every coach is going to say "yeah, our practices are brutal and i don't think any person has ever enjoyed our practices along with the extremely high demands we put on each athlete too."  Bo had like 20 kids quit the football team, so I wonder if Bo was lying to people who joined Michigan football since Bo should have known some kids wouldn't be able to handle it. Damn that Bo...he did not have the kids's best interests in mind!!!

If several people came forward and said Bo lied to them during the recruiting process, would your opinion on Bo change? Some of those people may be thankful to Bo and some of those may resent Bo...but does it matter?

"pretty close to fraud"

Either it is fraud or it is not fraud. Who cares if it is close to fraud when it is not fraud. Also, scholarships are not guaranteed for 4 years because if I remember correctly, a scholarship can be on a year by year basis at the discretion of the coach.  Think about all the football players on the team with scholarships then count how many of the players that do not have scholarships but may be promised one later if they are good enough. That would seem like fraud but it is not. It is just part of college athletics whether we like it or not. I think only 3 sports offer full ride scholarships, thus the rest of scholarships offered are way less and probably more likely to be abused but no one hears about it.

If you were a CEO of a company, trust me, you would be teetering on the edge of fraud daily as your sole responsibility is to the shareholders by virtue of profits. If you have to lay off 100 people who cost you a million dollars a year in salary in order to get 100 million in profits, you would do it in a heartbeat, and if you don't, you could be in big doo doo with your shareholders. People will still apply for a job at the same company regardless of what they did in the past anyways. Do you think a recruit is going to say "omg, yes i heard about that poor kid, I'm afraid he is going to do the same thing to me!"

OMG!!!

All COACHES lie to kids. I've heard many stories about div I basketball and football recruiting. One player was telling me about Bobby Knight trying to recruit him, only to find out his coach is just like Bobby Knight and concluded that all coaches were like Bobby Knight anyways.

Whatever it is that coaches say to kids, they are lying because there is nothing they can guarantee to the kids that they will play or that they will have a fun time in practice or being on the team.

Look at Joe PA...OMG he won't let a qb transfer to another school!!!!! OMG He lied!! Get off your high horse and get over it. I'm sure you have lied to kids before and it is just part of life too. The smart person would lie to save his team and his job, no coach is going to put the interests of a kid above the team because he is paid to run a team, not to individuals. It is a meat market and that is life. Every coach has 1 person who had a bad experience that would haunt the coach for life, but there would be hundreds who had a great experience with the coach, so what is your point? Are we becoming a nation of wussies where we will monitor the intensity level of coaches screaming at their players/team...which is a pretty immoral thing to do!

Actually

It's not the semifinals.

The horror will play Minnesota's nemesis as they lost to them 2 of last 3 times, North Dakota St hopefully. NDSU is in ther 2nd full season of being eligible for FBC playoffs now.  NDSU will play Eastern Washington later today.

Delaware will play the Wofford/Southern GA winner.

We finally did some practicing on onside kicks during the game!!

Sudden Change

People will always have a problem with someone making a sudden change to the college football landscape..or have been at the top the entire time like Tim Tebow.

I don't think the hatred for Denard will ever reach the level it did for Tebow and other similar players.

NCAA.org

NCAA.org has all the cool stats. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/mainpage.jsp

You can click based on categories...for example, current and former Mich qb are 1st, 6th and 10th in total offensive yards.  http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2010&rpt=IA_playertotoff&sit…

Drob is #4th in the nation for all purpose runners, but the other 3 guys ahead return kickoffs/punts and recieving yards, Drob doesn't. http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2010&rpt=IA_playeraprun&site…

You can also click on team stats and see where Michigan is ranked in the nation and in conference, plus get individual stats/rankings too. http://web1.ncaa.org/football/exec/rankingSummary?year=2010&org=418

Tie breaker?

I don't get why people are griping, because in any scenario, many fans will have very legitimate reasons to gripe.

People may say in some years the Game will not have any meaning, and frankly, it didn't the last 2 years, so that is not something the "conference" controls. To me, the Game and all the stakes it usually provide is more about denying the other team the conference title or a national championship. This will continue. If either team has a real bad year, they still have the chance to ruin national championship hopes, although a conference title game may be able to help the 1 loss team salvage their season with a BCS title bid. A 1 loss team could beat an undefeated team in the last game, thus both teams meet each other again for the title game, knowing that even the losing team will not get a bcs bid because there were the 2 other 1 loss team from each divisions waiting. (Such as Nebraska who lost to Michigan, and Penn st who lost to Ohio st, but both didn't get in..so there are 4 1-loss teams in the conference, the team who most recently lost is usually left out...unless you are Oklahoma a few years ago.)

I am excited for any scenario, because the stakes will always be high, no matter what the Big 10 conference decides. I think the fans have spoken, we want the game to be the last game, thus we shouldn't even worry about conference breakdown/scenarios since anything, and everything will happen regardless of the odds. That's just college football, everything is chaotic and it works for all of us, depending on which side we end up on.

Thursday is my "holiday" before the holiday!

Thursday is my "holiday" before the holiday! It's when I try to get in prime football watching shape, so I don't get too overwhelmed in watching football all day, starting with College gameday until the last relevant game on tv that night. Fortunately, I'll be in AA this weekend, so I don't have to worry about catching all the games on TV..but I just might DVR everything, including the Michigan game!

Scenario

Actually, if the visiting rb runs for a decent 2 yards, home fan goes wild for a good stop, but (if this is possible) the RB hears the boos from where he sees the UConn fans are located.

Maybe a better example would be that the visiting rb fumbles, the crowd goes crazy so all noises are drawn out..then when the cheering stops, start booing and it will be obvious that it is not the home crowd that is disappointed, thus it is from what appears to be an UConn fan. Yes, this whole tactic will be very hard to pull off, but it is all about picking the right moments and right scenario to be explicit it is not the home fans booing.

Clarifications

Good comments everyone, I guess i should have clarified further! The players and opposing fans would easily catch on if all 114,000 of us were doing the same thing, so I meant the Michigan fans in the visitor's section only. I would think 100-500 fans in a specific section would work, without even having to don UConn gear to go undercover.  If a UConn fan is in the middle of all this, don't you think the UConn fan is going to think "wtf? why are we booing our own team, that play wasn't that bad??"

Over the years, you see players comment about their own fans turning on them because of their poor efforts as a team or as an individual, so that is where I was coming from. Based on my experience in home and away games for Michigan, the visiting crowd seems to be the most "supportive" bunch overall.

Yep

A friend ordered 15 of them, and they arrived in Kansas City on Thursday. Unfortunately, half of us are Michigan fans, while the other half are Uconn fans within our group.

I believe all Uconn ticket request for the game will be honored, so perhaps your tickets will arrive soon.

avg pay

http://www.ehow.com/facts_5892569_athletic-compliance-officer-job-descr…

Avg salary according to them is 38k, but I have no idea when the article was posted, so it would make sense there are some places that pay compliance officers lowly, especially if they are inexperienced.

The compliance officer is in a strange position, but I think it is a job under U of Michigan administration, not exclusively under athletics which operates on a different budget, as I understand it. I don't even know if the student athlete coordinator/staff operate under the athletics budget which includes coaches and team staff salary.

Beat me to it!

I was about to post this job!!

I am a 3L law student, so I hope the person who gets the job has a law degree! However, I am pretty sure the position only pays around 30k or less, as I recall the same job opening up at U of Texas, when I was a student and student-athlete tutor too. Looking back, it does seem strange to hire a person with a bachelor's degree or have such a low salary.  That was Texas, but even now, I probably would love to take this job at Michigan.

The reason why I said I hope the person who got the job has a law degree is because of training in reading statutes, which is going to be the most important thing on the job due to issue spotting.

Good luck to all those who are applying!

Cold weather and recruits?

Does anyone ever think about playing in the NFL and having to play teams in December and January anywhere in the USA like Seattle, Denver, Green Bay, Chicago, NY or Foxsboro?

I never understood how football players want to stay in warm weather cities but true football players will gladly play in any condition because the weather only makes the game even more legendary.

Minneapolis?

I can't see the "Metrodump" hosting the title game, and if they had to host a game, I would prefer it be at the TCF Bank stadium. Whenever Minnesota do build the new stadium for the Vikings, then it will be easy to see why Minneapolis would be an attractive venue. It's a tourist town because of Mall of America.

I'm wondering why Pittsburgh is not mentioned? If we add a NY team, then there is no doubt the new Giants/Jets stadium would be a perfect venue too.

Video?

Video.

SEC expansion

The SEC can say all they want about recent achievements, but if we add all the teams we want, who can the SEC add to make the conference an attractive one with 16 teams? USC is definetely out, so the only teams left would either be Notre Dame (fat chance), Texas (not really likely), and Oklahoma (a possibility) but Oklahoma wouldn't really fit as well in the SEC as they would in the Big 10, even minus the AAU status.

All the SEC can add are teams left over from the ACC like FSU and Miami, but those teams don't necessarily have the wow factor, plus wouldn't bring in any money because of already being in Florida. If the SEC added teams outside of its current region, they do not have much room to expand outward.  Who knows, the SEC will try to get 24 teams, and have 4  6-team conferences.

Vice grip

What the Big 10 and Big East have done independently to persuade ND to join their conferences, the combined conference effort is more likely to work. If ND is turned off by the Big 10's efforts, then they will join the Big East, presumably after we take some of the Big East teams. If ND joins the Big 10, then the Big east will get to keep a team that they probably would otherwise have lost. I don't see Mizzou or Nebraska being out of the picture if ND do join us, so it would be one of the Big east teams.

There will be a domino effect after Big 10 expands, so all the conferences that are affected will likely work with the Big 10 or other conferences to get more teams to join, and that inlcudes ND naturally. If Big 10 and Big East fail in getting ND to join and exile ND in the process schedule-wise, ND could be forced to join the Big 12 just to be able to play teams in all other sports.  I just don't see any possible way that ND will retain football independence after the super conferences are formed. The BCS shouldn't even continue the stipulation they have with ND too.

Canton, Ohio?

Wait, Did Jimmah show up in Canton, Ohio at the Hall of Fame in a limo and declared he will win 10 super bowls?

Texas

They would be a better fit than ND since they have a stadium that holds 100k. Texas only has 2 rivalries and they can still play in Dallas against Oklahoma and play thanksgiving nights against Texas A&M.

I don't like Missouri at all as an addition, but it would be nice if the Big 10 was more sought after to the point that a big 12 team wants to join the Big 10.

Just to purely spite Ohio St, I want to see Cincinnati join the Big 10. Cincinnati is close enough to all the schools that if they ever expanded their stadium, they could consistently sell out 60,000 a game. PSU, Tosu, Mich and Wisc would all bring their fans en masse and fill up.

I always think about potential big 10 championship sites, it seems like only Houston, Dallas and Kansas City are Big 12 host cities for football. In the Big 10, we have Minnesota (The vikings will probably get a new domed stadium in the future) Heinz field, the stadium in Philadelphia, Ford Field, Soldier Field, or even the dome in Indianapolis. If we must, we can consider the 2 Ohio pro stadiums as well.

One nice thing about a Big 10 title game, anyone can buy tickets early and make plans well in advance to attend.

The first rose bowl

There are still pictures all over campus with Vince Young and Michigan players, and I do not recall any such pictures from the national championship game, which was the 2nd rose bowl game they were in. I personally think Texas is more excited about beating Michigan than beating USC.

Creamed...

I have a feeling Texas will get creamed, even though I had classes with some of the current starters. (Jordan Shipley and Sergio Kindle) This is probably a good time to give Brown a huge raise, since it wouldn't seem justified to give him a huge one if they lost the national championship. I just hope Colt wins the Heisman so the jinx continues, plus I don't want to see Alabama have their first Heisman too.

Aww

Guess it is not a good year for coaches who have extra weight placed on them....

In other words...

Tiger used his 1 wood and aimed at the wrong hole.

Actually...you are wrong.

Kelly, Gruden AND Stoops could fill those pants, they just have to learn to walk together in Weis' oversized pants. That's not a pretty picture though..like a 3 legged race gone bad or something.

Maybe it is just a bad year to be a hefty coach, but they can always give sumo wrestling a try.

Do you...

think the Irish intentionally sabotaged their own national championship hopes because they are worried about having to carry Weis around on the field?

I just hope he joins the Bears and be the O coordinator and help Cutler stop what he has been doing in the last 10 games, because he has thrown more red zone interceptions than Brady did in his entire 10 yr career. I think it will be fun to see Weis back in the NFL frankly.

Hmm..

Why would we take the penalty, we should decline the penalty and force them to punt...unless it was a 4th and 1 play, then in that case 3rd and 11 would suit us fine.

The coach and 11 players will

The coach and 11 players will go all WWII on Ohio st. There is nothing else to discuss/do, other than wait for kickoff on Saturday.
