"He's a hard worker, and he watched me and Tim (Hardaway Jr.) and Nik (Stauksas) put work in to become (first-round picks), and I'm just happy he's getting better," Burke said. "It's great for the program, too. It shows what type of program the University of Michigan is and the direction it continues to go in."

Thought this would be a thread simialr to the one complaining about how Urban Meyer was kicking our butts on the recruiting trail from about a month ago and then the next day we picked up a 5 star TE that originally signed with Ohio.

Those refs should have gotten the Jim Joyce treatment for blowing us that game.

John Beilein, Coach K, Pete Carroll are all coaches who have had pretty good success without screaming at people.
|1 day 2 hours ago||and how many of these 85||
and how many of these 85 players deserve millions and billions of dollars. There's only around 30 players that are contributing to their teams success. There's another 55 who either sit on the bench or are being redshirted. If you are paying players then you would have to start kicking people out of schools for not performing since that's what happens to coaches and NFL players.

Agreed. Student athletes are given free room and board along with a scholarship. I talked to a couple of football players about this and they said that the outside people who claim that they are starving are totally wrong.

That's easy. I'd keep it the way it is. If you want to get paid go to the the canadian football league and the arena football league. Nobody's forcing you to play college football and only get a mere 50,000 dollars off the cost of attending Michigan.

I find it hilarious that Beilein has already sent more people than Izzo to the pros and Izzo has been coaching college basketball three times as long as Beilein.

Why do people say land x recruit and the rest is gravy? Was Dashawn Hand gravy last year? I sure would have liked a top 3 national recruit to shore up the DL along with a top 3 national recruit in Peppers.

Why is it bad news that he's deciding December 13th? If anything, it's good news since it gives us a chance to win football games as opposed to him deciding in the next 40 days.

None of those facilities besides the DIA are in the same league as other cities. You need people to vacation there and spend money. Detroit is by far the worst city for that in the midwest. You can then use the sales tax money to fix the schools.
|3 days 3 hours ago||If you want to turn Detroit||
If you want to turn Detroit around you need to build public transportation, aquarium, museum, planetarium etc. Chicago and Toronto are in a much better position than Detroit because there is actually stuff to do downtown besides pro sports.

I think Dombroski is decent. He's had some good trades and some bad ones. Of course when you're being compared to Dumars, Holland, and Mayhew, you look outstanding.

Trading Scherzer would fix one problem in the bullpen and then possibly create another one with starting pitching. We need to only trade our prospects.

|4 days 4 hours ago||Well yeah I don't think that||
Well yeah I don't think that anyone aims to be Alabama academically. They are the gold standard for football nowadays though and it wouldn't hurt us academically to win 3 NCs. Maybe some academics would be upset that it's taking press away from their programs but otherwise it doesn't affect their ability to do their jobs. Was it hurting Michigan academically when we won 10 national championships from 1900 to 1950 or when we won 2 hockey national championships and one football national championship in the late 90s?
|4 days 4 hours ago||Why do you think it's a bad||
Why do you think it's a bad thing to have sports and academics equally important to Michigan? While they're not directly beneficial to society, studies have shown that schools with strong football or basketball teams have students that do better on average than schools that don't. Also Michigan has had strong athletics for about 150 years now and strong academics even longer. If your school can lead the country in both those aspects then what's the problem? As long as we don't become UNC or PSU with their messes, then what's the harm in being renowned for both.
|4 days 4 hours ago||All I'm saying is that both||
All I'm saying is that both can coexist here and be dominant. Look at Stanford. We don't have to become the Harvard academically or Alabama athletically. We can be both.
|4 days 6 hours ago||I think that athletics and||
I think that athletics and academics are both equally important. Neither are more important than the other. I'm not sure why we have to try to destroy one to prop up the other.

It ain't everything but I'd rather have a 5 star with offers from Alabama, USC, LSU, Ohio, PSU, Florida, Georgia, etc. than a 2 star with offers from Wake Forest, Bowling Green, Toledo, Western Kentucky, San Jose State, etc. I'm not saying that a 2 star can't become an all big ten or all american but those players are being recruited by MAC and Sun Belt schools for a reason.
|5 days 12 hours ago||I also have the same feeling||
I also have the same feeling about football. It seems like when the team isn't expected to do well, they do much better because everyone overeacts to the previous year. For example in 2011 we were down right bad to end 2010 so everyone thought that we would go 6-6 or 7-5 because of that bitter taste. The opposite was true the following year when we were supposed to be awesome coming off of a 11-2 season. However, numerous factors were different such as playing 4 top 10 teams away from home.
