I got a ransom redirect, so I turned adblocker back on and I'll probably leave it on for a year or so.  I was around for the last major malware epidemic on this site so I feel justified in being cautious.

The amazon referral link is meant to be used, especially by people who use an adblocker.  I'll focus on that and spare my computer.

Autobids for conference

Autobids for conference champs are terrible.  Remember when 8-5 Wisconsin won the conference?  Divisions and OOC games mean that you can't just rely on conference championships and the like.

I don't care if conference championship games "matter" or not.  If the winner isn't good enough to be in relative to other candidates, they shouldn't be in.

Maybe you should find a

Maybe you should find a source that doesn't start off with:

The second thing was that the icon of sexuality for chubby, plain girls, Lena Dunham, accused a man she barely knew of raping her in college. Both of these fit into the broad feminist narrative of the infantile female who is unable to cope in a world occupied by rapists men.

Bashing women for their looks and feminists in general right off the bat is hardly the way to demonstrate credibility, and you're doing your cause a disservice by relying on these types of articles.

Also, a survey is invalid because it pays people?  Really?  That's most surveys I remember in college, unless these people are paid by the rape accusation.  (Apparently, I missed out on some easy money.)

Playing for the Big Ten title

Playing for the Big Ten title in 07 doesn't count?

The Crimson Quarry article is

The Crimson Quarry article is great.  I especially liked the proposed B12 East:

Rutgers, WVU, ISU, Purdue, Kansas, Texas

One team could easily improve to 7 wins and a low grade bowl game, and let's just say you won't want to "mess" with them.

I remember how he was talking

I remember how he was talking about his commencement speaker was clever and funny; yet, he was unable to remember anything the guy said.  I thought that anecdote was pretty funny; yet, I can't remember anything else that Bob Woodruff sai.

You used a really bad

You used a really bad example.  I think you'd be pretty pissed off if Michigan or whatever school that had accepted you abruptly told you they no longer had room for you to attend.  Sure, you can take the CC -> upperclassman transfer route to plenty of schools.   However, it's fairly ridiculous to think that a college retracting admission would be something that's supposed to be part of your backup plan.

Edit: I think I replied to a now edited post.

The grand slams should be a

The grand slams should be a bigger event for men's tennis, because best out of 5 at the grand slams gives a bigger advantage to whoever is better overall (as compared to best out of 3 for women's).  Otherwise, they're just where the best players show up by convention and have an emphasis on a particular surface.  Nadal, for instance, had a ridiculously long winning streak at the French Open on clay even though his competition was quite tough.

There's also more money, which I hear is a big thing

All this hype and I still have to wait two days?

Are 2% and 40% equally valid?  If so, why?  If not, why is this a bad guess?

Factors in predicting the outcome of a one-off game, besides the spread, include number of returning players, recruiting rankings, last year's ranking, coaching ability...

Thanks for the link.  I thought we made 3-4m from a home game, but I guess I'm off.

1.5 million?  I realize it

1.5 million?  I realize it would be absolutely terrible to do a home and home with any power 5 team, but... 1.5 million?  Are we even coming out ahead at that point?

I'm not so worried about

I'm not so worried about Nebraska leaving, but I'm really worried that Maryland and Rutgers get poached.  I sure hope that doesn't happen...

For those fearing B1G expansion, remember that 16 teams is probably the worst size.  However, if you keep going, you can make a Midwest division and a Stray Dog division, which could be an improvement over our current situation.

He can't be that good of a doctor; I heard he puts forks up people's asses.

Wow, seriously?  This list is

Wow, seriously?  This list is basically biased against schools that have majors where students get jobs right out of college, as opposed to the trap majors where you have to throw another 5-7 years after your first 4 to get a job.

That said, I do think that large class sizes are a legitimate reason to not favor a school (as one of many factors...)

Crappy conference champions

Crappy conference champions don't deserve a playoff spot.  Would 8 win 2012 Wisconsin deserve a spot?  Keep it at 4 or maybe 6 teams at most.  8 teams waters down the regular season and 16 teams ruins it.  If you don't show up during the regular season, you don't deserve a shot at the title.

Also, those divisions suck.

There's nothing like quintupling a grammatical error.

I did the exact same thing,

I did the exact same thing, but is that really a guilty pleasure?  I'm not ashamed of listening to (nearly all) 80s music.

That said...

Old - Like a prayer - Madonna.  It has an aura that I really like, but I'm not going to sing along publicly.

New(er) - Tearin' up my heart - N'Sync.  Yes, I'm a heterosexual male.  The song is still extremely catchy and the lyrics are pretty much spot on.

New - Wrecking ball (not the chorus) - Miley Cyrus. I still hate the chorus, but I like the first verse a lot.

Still hated: Katy Perry songs not named "Hot and Cold" or "Teenage Dream".  I do genuinely like both of those songs though.

Going to a less accomplished

Going to a less accomplished school does not make you stupid or a bad person or a failure in life.  However, it's foolish to claim that because some students at a school (including you) could have gone to a higher-level school, all students at both schools are therefore equivalent.

What matters more than the name of a school is what a person accomplishes there.  Still, if you're relying on UM-Dearborn or Flint to have the same type of name recognition as Ann Arbor, you will be sorely disappointed unless you just say "Michigan" or "U of M".

While I agree that the

While I agree that the weakest teams in an 8 team playoff won't deserve to be in the playoff, I heard that one year a two loss team even won the national championship.  Should that championship just have automatically gone to the one loss BCS team at the end of the season?  The absolute number of losses isn't necessarily a good gauge; it's a function of how well teams are playing that particular season.

(2007 season, 2008 championship game LSU over OSU for the record).

I am fine with 4 or 6 teams.  I hate the idea of 8 teams.  Unlike many people on this board, I would rather exclude some unworthy teams rather than include every possible team.  Every top 8 team stands a chance in a given game, even if it's less than 10%.  The regular season should count for a lot and some teams don't deserve to make the cut.  If they don't want to whine, they shouldn't lose so much during the regular season.

Can she handle the cold?  If

Can she handle the cold?  If not, it's out of the question.  If she can, I'm not sure why the two of you would want to stay somewhere if you both have jobs you hate.  Money is hardly everything with two working adults, particularly if you aren't planning on a six pack of kids.

I have to say, I don't really get the relatives thing.  If you see them a few times a year, that seems fine; we live in a modern era of communication and blah blah.  Use Meetup to make friends or something, even if social interaction seems to dwindle as you move away from college and so on.

Also, Arizona is known for having a certain "climate"... and I'm not talking about the weather.  Some people will hate to leave that while others would be happy to get away.  That might be a factor.

Beck seems like a much better

Beck seems like a much better option than Frost.  I don't really understand what is so good about Frost, as Oregon's offense started very good and roughly stayed that way.  Even GERG managed to not ruin Texas's defense the one year he was there.

Well, duh on results vs

Well, duh on results vs recruiting.  The information is easy to get and it's probably better than nothing, because stars are correlated with performance even though correlations aren't perfect and I'm tired of people having to explain this.

Meh.  I'd prefer that Hoke

Meh.  I'd prefer that Hoke got suspended for 1-2 games to show that we don't screw around with concussions.  I think that I would demand that of a rival's coach that did the same thing, unintentional or not.  i don't feel like rooting for Michigan this game, and I stuck through '08, '09, '10, '13, and various other seasons.

There should at least be fierce competition at the game about whose athletic director sucks more.  We should win that easily, because This Is Michigan.

And if we had done things the

And if we had done things the same way at 5-0?  I brooded and I would have supported a 1-2 game suspension for Hoke.  While this issue may be symptomatic, it's not really the end of the world and wouldn't merit a firing (unlike what I thought on Saturday).

Now, to be fair, I saw plenty of comments from fans of other schools (including some that would presumably want Hoke around for practical reasons) that Hoke should be fired for what he did on Saturday.  I'm not sure that I see nearly as many of those when it appears that Hoke was painfully ignorant rather than throwing out Shane as a sacrificial lamb/to make a point/TOUGHNESS.

I have no idea what the OP is

I have no idea what the OP is talking about after reading the post.  How this offense looks promising is beyond me.  The one checkmark reached with the offense is that the OL is more of a line rather than two points and nothingness.

Devin just seems lost.

I can't believe Nussmeier is being talked up by some people here as an interim coach.  Nussmeier inherited a record-setting quarterback (single game) and managed to get lots of regression and the first shutout in 30some years. Sure, Devin isn't as good as that one game, but he isn't as bad as this.

Burn it and you make water

Burn it and you make water (along with CO2 and some other stuff); it's not that hard.  Turning it into useful fuel with high yield would be impressive.

What's wrong with fertilizer as an option here?  Making fertilizer is often going to be from natural gas, which is already useful for other reasons.

Family matter was a lie in

Family matter was a lie in that it should only cover subjects that mainly affect Brendan Gibbons and his family.  If it's just "a matter that his family would care about", then that covers everything that affects Brendan Gibbons, which would only make the statement true in politician land.  I don't understand the need to rationalize Hoke's statement because he was only lying to reporters, or something.  Say that he was wrong and move on rather than try to torture words into fitting a more benign interpretation.

Seriously, some of the comments here state that it's good that Hoke lied because it got reporters to not ask more questions.  That is stupid.

Colbert's actually funny,

Colbert's actually funny, unlike Jimmy Fallon, so it's a good step for late night.  The fraction of talk in those talk shows is just too high without amazing guests however.  The half hour format gives a much smaller fraction of banal conversation.

I'm still surprised to see this happen just because late night does not seem like a meritocracy.

Actually, there's very likely

Actually, there's very likely a negative correlation between watching porn and prostate cancer, as regular ejaculation has been shown to reduce the likelihood of developing prostate cancer.  I'm not kidding.

Hardly a hidden diamond in

Hardly a hidden diamond in the rough, but Dexter is certainly worth watching if you have a lot of time.  If you like the show, I've found it's sometimes easier to pause in the middle of an episode rather than deal with the cliffhanger they sometimes throw in at the end of an episode.

Wow... I was sure this was a

Wow... I was sure this was a clickbait title.  Nice find.  How do you summarize the career of someone who was responsible for some of the best and worst offensive days at Michigan?

That does make me wonder if perhaps DB is taking a heavier hand on the reins.

Well said?  I realize that

Well said?  I realize that you could agree with him (although you shouldn't), but that post was clearly not "well said".

Also, Michigan is supposed to be the one that competes with Ohio for recruits in Ohio.

Yeah, sucks for them.

Yeah, sucks for them.  Beating Oregon by five scores is not what Lloyd Carr would have done.

I'm not really trying to cause trouble, just pointing out the relatively obvious retort.

As much as I'm sure we want

As much as I'm sure we want to find ways to be offended, RR was pleased that the basketball team honored him and didn't say a thing negative about Michigan in the article.  Arizona can be mildly obnoxious if they want, but I don't think that it reflects badly on RR.

Thus, who cares?

I'm definitely in favor of

I'm definitely in favor of keeping the blog classy.  I do feel like you're dodging the key question though: will we eventually get OSU and even Iowa UFRs over the next few weeks?

Also, people will probably mind moody posts less if you put a disclaimer at the top of the post stating that you're unusually outraged or numb about something.  A little warning goes a long way.

The line of scrimmage bit

The line of scrimmage bit made me laugh while also making me feel sad, which takes some skill to pull off.  Thank you for that.

I think we should have won

I think we should have won TUS.  Northwestern's loss was a dagger to the heart continuing a series of losses while our loss was a Robocop-esque annihilation that cost us the division, most of our superiority complex, and any optimism about our offense.  (I'm referring to what happened to Alex Murphy.)

So... they did what half the

So... they did what half the people on this blog have been doing since the Penn State game?

You make a lot of sense sir.

I thought Anchorman was mediocre to good

Frankly, Will Ferrell is unimpressive in any starring role except for Talladega Nights (which actually deserves the praise that Anchorman gets).  He's best as an unhinged side character.  I was unimpressed by the smoking crack (spoiler!) in the trailer... hopefully the gags will be better on average in the actual movie.
