Took a moment today to rewatch the 2021 edition of Rutgers vs. Michigan. It is frightening (in a good way) to see how much better the 2022 edition Michigan team is vs 2021. I don't know that the team believed they were as good as they could be. 2022 already shows a different mindset to me.
2021 Rutgers played well and kept M off balance in the second half offensively and defensively. Rutgers will get crushed by 2022 Michigan both offensively and defensively - the front line on both sides of the ball are dominant.
Noticed that Rutgers played aggressively on defense, leaving lots of room to throw. Hoping to see the same so we can understand the capability of our passing attack.
Amazing to see where all the action is - 2 yards BEHIND the line of scrimmage. Looking at M offense in comparison, action is at or forward of the line. What a difference!
Will someone please explain how the shin can touch the ground if the knee doesn’t? Unless the qb has some joint between his knee and ankle or has a tib/fib fracture, the QB can’t be down.
I was a first year MMB that year and ended up knocking my rank leader over during the pregame block M foldout (I slipped and kicked my left foot out to gain my balance which hit my rank leader and down he went)
I was laughing for a moment until he jumped back up back to formation and said “you’re challenged.” For MMB folks, I’m sure you can imagine how fast the smile left my face.
Cade Massey (codeveloper of the massey-peabody index) was a professor of mine at Wharton. I saw him a few weeks ago (he’s a HUGE Texas fan) and we talked college football. I introduced him to MGOBLOG and he was quite impressed.
As an aside, his use of analytics even in class was astounding.
And yes, we have the 10-k, 10-q, analyst reports, case studies, HBR articles, GSB articles, several academic papers, and other published sources. The goal was to combine those sources with orignial research from a vareity of individuals to fill in gaps, validate information, and understand how directions may have changed in the past years or even months.
For the pregame, the MMB is frequently waiting in the tunnel while both teams exit the field from warmups. On this occasion, Some of the last of the OSU team decided to share their true feelings with anyone within earshot. "F*** Michigan, f*** their mom, F* their dog, THIS IS OUR HOUSE!"
This is one time (possibly the ONLY time in my recollection) that we as a band responded. We chanted " WHO's HOUSE?! OUR HOUSE!!! All 400+ members screaming at the top of their lungs. They had to have heard it in both locker rooms. My friend said he heard it from his seats in the stadium.
Man that year was fun!!! I still wonder about the dog comment though...
They effectively lost, though they technically "won."
The rest of college football recognizes this and that stings them. Any coach who can take the same team and in 9 months make them feared is a force (as if we didn't know already).
The reason this doesn't bug me is that they didn't cheat (as much) to win as 1990 or 2001. Times are changing
What happens to the clock if we do recover (or even just run the ball one more time)?
If it runs, I can't imagine a scenario where they can get a team on the field to try a pass. If it doesn't run, can someone indicate why it doesn't run? I haven't seen anything in the rules that indicates that it should stop on a turnover.
I know, salt on the wound and all that. Just want to understand the game a bit more.
Hit that first overthrow and our running game looks way better. Hit the first two and it could have been. Win going away. There is just no substitute for being able to stretch a D vertically.
I saw more good throws to open receivers deep in this game than I did in the first 6 games last year. And that was against a real D.
Maybe you've been fortunate enough to do so. Maybe you haven't personally but you've felt it by virtue of something or someone else. The feeling, the emotion, the raw electricity... It's moments like these that are indelibly written into your mind and stay with you until the day you die. It's those " do you remember where you were when..." moments that are never forgotten.
Remember this moment - we only get so many of these in a lifetime. Enjoy the goosebumps, relish the tingle, savor the anticipation. It's been too long. But I'm convinced this will be our time. It's time to step from the precipice.

THey were all over campus each week. I'd love to get a hold of one of those. I remember seeing them each week on North Campus displayed. I think it was a very talented art student.

I respectfully disagree - Michigan football is a public example of what we expect out of our entire university. It's been that way for nearly 40 years. It's not part of the brand, it's darn near the marketing program for the entire school. We continue to be left adrift and we will flush that down the toilet. At that point, we should pull a U-Chicago.
