4 weeks 3 days ago | Not in my book |
The Pac 12 is still seen as a major conference and their fans are ardent in their belief that they are the best. So are a large portion of their media. Arrogance is alive and well in the Pac 12. |
4 weeks 3 days ago | Izzo is on the run |
Izzo knows the shadow of conseqences is looming closer over him than it ever has. No wonder he is becoming "unhinged." |
4 weeks 3 days ago | Perfect |
Hoke has been called a lot of things, but "subtle" isn't one of them. |
4 weeks 3 days ago | Regression Toward the Mean |
I often use "regression toward the mean" when talking about sports. For this game, I said on a few forums that if both teams regressed toward the mean, Michigan would win. The "flip side" of this for Michigan is that they averaged 37% from the three point line this year. That makes it highly unlikely that we will see 58% again this tournament. Luckily, they still would have won if they had shot 9/24, or 37.5% from the three point line. A team with this kind of defense is going to win a lot of games, especially in the NCAA Tournament where it is usually harder to score. They had two bad shooting games and one great one. I am hoping they settle in at 37-40% for the next three games. It should be enough. |

RAVEN: Remember Affect Verb Effect Noun. |
4 weeks 6 days ago | Victim of his own success |
Dumars was so successful early that nobody in the league wanted to make him a bona fide trade offer in his later years. They were all afraid of getting the short end of the trade. I think the disaster with Darko was what made everything fall apart. They would have won at least one more NBA Championship if they had drafted 'Melo instead. I think Chauncey would be solid. But while we're bringing people back, I vote for bringing Stevie Y home to the Wings. |
6 weeks 1 day ago | Bahaha |
I am guessing it might be more relevant to ask if Barkley ever goes on TV without drinking... |
6 weeks 3 days ago | Ugh |
Brandon almost killed Domino's. He almost killed the University of Michigan athletic department. Finally, on his third try, he "succeeded." He killed Toys R Us. I know there were plenty of outside factors, but when everything falls down around an executive everywhere he goes, sometimes you have to hold that executive at least partially responsible for the outcomes. |
9 weeks 21 hours ago | Hmmm |
And now Michigan and OSU have the same overall records this season: 22-7. Maybe the oddsmakers and gamblers had OSU figured out before the media did. I wonder if Michigan will be ranked over OSU? The media and coaches can't use Big Ten "weakness" as an excuse for criticizing the Big Ten and then give OSU the nod over Michigan for a "better conference record." |
10 weeks 5 days ago | Why bother? |
I don't hear anyone at Michigan saying "this is the hire that puts us over the top." Why should anyone here bother to "say" or prove an irrelevant concept? |
11 weeks 20 hours ago | Fait Accompli |
This was a fait accompli the second Patterson signed with Michigan. |
11 weeks 21 hours ago | Terrible headline |
He's just a guy who bowls in a league and has one series over 700 with a 195 average. This is on what is known as a "house shot," on which professionals who actually make money average at least 235 and closer to 245. That is a 700 series pretty much every time they bowl. He's not bowling in any tournaments. He's a "pro bowler" like French Fries are "French." |
12 weeks 10 hours ago | I agree |
I agree with TruBlu, and I'll go a step further. I will be stunned if the MSU administration are obstinate, arrogant and ignorant enough to keep Izzo and Dantonio for another week. |
12 weeks 22 hours ago | Don't: just don't... |
Don't try to normalize the Culture of Sexual Assault at Michgan State University by insinuating that it "happens at other schools." While some other schools may indeed do this, it is not "business as usual," nor is it commonplace. What happened at MSU is very, very wrong and is the biggest sexual abuse scandal in the history of sports. Nothing of this scope is happening anywhere else or there would be some obvious signs that something was going on. You know: like the signs the media and the MSU administration ignored during the reigns of Nassar, Izzo and Dantonio... |
12 weeks 22 hours ago | Me, too |
I "vote" for 1968. A lot of people don't remember that the Tigers almost won in 1967, too, losing to the mighty Yankees on the last day of the season to lose the pennant. |
12 weeks 22 hours ago | Come on |
Nobody with an IQ over 70 ever thought she could beat up Chickenweather. He has too much exprience beating women. |
12 weeks 3 days ago | Great article |
This article shows why students should have more input into issues like this than they do at most schools. An adult sitting in an admin office doesn't know half as much about what is going on with students as the students themselves do. I hope they listen to their students a lot better than they listened to all the young women who complained about being sexually assaulted and were pretty much told to "shut up and go home." |
12 weeks 3 days ago | Both are Gone |
It's obvious that neither Dantonio nor Izzo will survive the fallout from the ESPN piece. My best guess is that Izzo will try to "get on top of the story" and announce his retirement effective after this season. That way, he gets to coach what he called his "best team ever" before the season began through the NCAA Tournament, which he feels he has a chance to win. As for Dantonio, I would guess he will either "retire" or get fired in the next week or so. Sparty trolls aside, there are a lot of Sparty fans who are honorable and don't want to see a culture of sexual abuse at their school. They will decide a few more wins are not as important as cleaning up their school and they will turn on both coaches. Also, as David Brandon learned, student demonstrations can go a long way toward swaying administrative decisions. I am guessing there will be a large demonstration demanding the firing or resignations of both Izzo and Dantonio in the next few days. Short version: both coaches are gone. It's just a matter of how soon. The sooner they leave, the sooner MSU can start cleaning up their cesspool of sexual abuse. |
12 weeks 5 days ago | Bad comparison |
Something like this would never "touch Bo." He would probably have dragged the offenders out the door himself. |
13 weeks 4 days ago | Great |
Sounds like I missed a pointless but hilarious argument... |
17 weeks 3 days ago | Another Coverup? |
How was this covered up for so long? Why wasn't it publicized when it happened? It's almost like Sparty playars and coaches receive special treatment... |
17 weeks 3 days ago | Ugh |
I hope Shane does well with his degree, because he isn't going to sniff an NFL camp. |
17 weeks 5 days ago | What? |
"Even when we lose to them every year?" 69-36-5... |
17 weeks 5 days ago | I agree: too much stress |
I hope Kill made enough money to not have to work if he doesn't want to. If he does work, the booth would be great. I always wondered why a guy with seizures would go back to a job that usually demands 80-100 hours a week. |
18 weeks 7 hours ago | Calm down |
When you look at Harbaugh's record, both at Michigan and at Stanford, there's no reason to panic. He has done a great job so far and will continue to. A couple of late offers to players you deem substandard really aren't anything to worry about. Michigan will be fine. The pipeline is flowing. Michigan will hit on a few and miss on a few. For a clean program in a dirty era, they are doing great. |
20 weeks 5 days ago | Right |
"Processing redshirt freshmen?" Why on earth would anyone automatically assume that a 19 year old kid being frustrated about his place on the depth chart was being "processed?" I don't know about everyone else here, but I certainly didn't make a lot of rational decisions when I was 19. EVeryone wants to play now. Nobody wants to wait. Ironically enough, a lot of kids get frustrated with the depth chart, transfer, sit out a year, and then find out they would have played sooner if they had stayed.

21 weeks 12 hours ago | Sure |
Sounds great. But what happens if Peters and McCaffrey both get injured? This year was a wake-up call for those who think you can get by on one or two competent QB's. |
21 weeks 12 hours ago | Good call |
Good call on the "fast" thing. I used to laugh when Tampa Bay fans talked about Shaun King like he was "fast." I would ask why they thought he was fast. You can all guess the answer.
|
21 weeks 12 hours ago | Ugh. |
With the Speight transfer, depth at QB is going to be a problem next year. If you pray, pray that Peters and McCaffrey stay healthy. |
21 weeks 12 hours ago | Come on |
We all thought the Harbaugh magic would overcome the loss of 19 starters. It didn't. Michigan's problems were with personnel: not with coaching. The best of Hoke's recruits left for the NFL, etc, while most of Harbaugh's recruits were a year too young to make a difference yet. Next year will be better, but 2019 will be the year when Michigan is fully loaded with a roster that will make them legitimate playoff contenders more often than not. A little bit of patience goes a long way during such a massive rebuilding job. |
