Not surprisingly, Brady looks one heck of a lot more relaxed than he did several weeks ago.

|2 years 48 weeks ago||Dave Brandon fumble recovery||
My favorite play of the year was Dave Brandon recovering SDSU's fumble of Brady Hoke, and returning him all the way back to Michigan.
Merry Christmas, MGoBloggers!

While interesting to speculate on depth charts and team captains, I'm more concerned about the strong, vocal leadership we will be losing. Who will replace Martin, RVB, Molk and Koger as team leaders. Who will be the fiery leaders in the trenches? I'm guessing Lewan will take over the OL leadership despite not being a senior. We need a spark on the DL, and it doesn't appear it will be BWC. Craig Roh? One of the LBs stepping up?

I wonder how much the severe limitation on baseball scholarships has on those numbers? It is my understanding that D1 baseball only allows 11.7 (!?!?) total scholarships for the 25-man squad. Unlike many other sports, it is quite common for baseball players to only get partial athletic scholarships. Could this be why you see so many baseball players leave school and sign minor league contracts?

...in Scout's 2011 CB recruiting rankings, he's pretty darned impressive.
Of the 19 CBs who were rated higher than Countess, I note that three committed to Georgia, and two each to Oregon and Texas. That's also pretty impressive on their part. I hope we can start garnering D prospects like that in the future.

...is approximately the same. The BBall is perfectly spherical and the FBall sort of squished. The latter would be very hard to dribble.

any longer than Denard as a running QB. The cumulative punishment of hits during the year would be just as telling, if not worse. You described him as a "large human being." If the weights and heights on the UM roster are correct, Devin is 4" taller than Shoelace, but only weighs 10 pounds more. While DG certainly has muscle tone (as does Denard), he could also fairly well be described as "tall and gangling." If anything, Gardner would be just a taller, slower target than Denard.
IIRC, Devin doesn't weigh much more than he did coming out of Inkster HS. At that time, I had envisioned him growing into Vince Young or Tim Tebow proportions. Not going to happen. He can still be a fine, mobile QB in the transition to a pro-style offense, however. He certainly has the tools to be a better passer.

The B1G should add ND plus the three service academies. That would result in the maximum incease in countrywide TV revenue since they'd add the ubiquitous ND alumni and all the ex-service folks.
|3 years 10 weeks ago||Does the field look "bowed?"||
I looked at the field shot in the link. To me, the field looks like it's bowed downward in the center. Is it just my eyes or an optical illusion? Probably happens on a lot of panoramic shots.
|3 years 11 weeks ago||Formerly the Zippers!||
Believe it or not, they were actually called the Zippers until 1950. Any wonder they changed the name? Still not great, though. (The first time I heard an announcer mention them years ago, I thought they were called the Zits!)
|3 years 12 weeks ago||I don't agree!||
While I like the concept of bronze statues, I think restricting them to Heisman winners penalizes some players, or rather some positions. It's unlikely that we'll see an offensive lineman ever win it, for example.
I would argue for some substantial bronze plaques equal for ALL honorees, something like those they have (or at least used to) in Yankee Stadium. These could be placed all around the stadium, sort of a "wall of honor."
|3 years 12 weeks ago||DB = Jerry Jones?!||
I trust DB will not make it a weekly habit to appear in pressers after the game. Quite appropriate after the WMU game because of the storm circumstances. I shudder to think of him liking the idea and turning into Jerry Jones, who always strays down to the Cowboys sidelines (at least in home games -- with Dallas winning), then appears in postgame pressers. Oh well, at least Brandon doesn't look like a friggin' cadaver like Jones!

"...the neck is something you just don't want to screw with." Just make sure you put one screw on each side of the neck.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
|3 years 12 weeks ago||Really think we're holding back?||
I don't think so. No doubt there will be a few new O plays specifically tailored for ND next week. But that's probably going to be true of any team we will face in the future. I just don't think our O is "ready for prime time" yet.
We better not be holding back anything -- we could still end up losing this thing.
|3 years 12 weeks ago||Impressive interview||
RVB is a very articulate impromptu speaker. Come to think of it, many of our players are. Al Borges, are you taking notes?
|3 years 13 weeks ago||I'm proud...||
I haven't puked yet reading all this tripe. How positively maudlin. SNAP OUT OF IT, GUYS!
|3 years 13 weeks ago||More nonsense...||
by analysts with nothing to do until the season begins. The rankings have little, if anything, to do with the second-stringer. Hell, I could be Luck's back-up and they'd still rank Stanford right up there. And, it's sheer folly to think you can rank all 120 FBS teams!
|3 years 13 weeks ago||AnnArbor.com was first...||
They actually published the same set of pictures we "broke" on MGoBlog yesterday about 3 hours before we did. At least in this instance, we're not the leaders (or legends?) we claim to be.
|3 years 13 weeks ago||Good ol' Matt...||
I enjoyed his reference to himself as being "young" back in 2004. As if he's now over the hill!
|3 years 14 weeks ago||One big design advantage...||
It wouldn't have needed patent protection: Nobody in their right (sober) mind would have ever thought of stealing the design for ANY purpose, and certainly not as a basis for a football trophy.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||Am I the only one||
who gets the impression that all of the recent CTKs were filmed on the same day (last Thursday)? Same weather and lighting conditions, venue, plays shown, etc. It seems to me the coaching staff has done an extemely good job in shutting down the info since late last week.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||Sheer Folly||
I can actually see some value in projecting the top 25 teams, or so, as long as one doesn't get too carried away with the precision of those forecasts. But to project pairings for 35 bowl games means precisely placing 70 teams in their final conference standings and predicting tie-breakers where needed. Impossible. However, ESPN and their ilk will keep doing so as long as we keep clicking on their websites or tuning in to their broadcasts.
|3 years 14 weeks ago||As regards your mention of Hawthorne...||
...I noticed a few changes in the roster shown in MGoBlue.com a few days ago. Hawthorne's now listed therein as a linebacker instead of DB. I don't know how "official" that roster is, but I know the change was made just recently (i.e., after the revised weights were published). That was the only position change I noted. I seem to recall we dropped one walk-on, and picked up a new walk-on QB, Ben Fry. There may have also have been one or two number changes.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||BWC Losing Favor?||
As I pore through and (over?) analyze comments from the D coaching staff through this admittedly still early stage of Fall camp, I'm gathering that BWC is proving a rather fustrating study. One keeps seeing the term "inconsistent" applied to him. Unless Will really steps up during the remainder of the camp, it would not surprise me at all if he is NOT a starter. It just seems that one thing this staff will not put up with is inconsistent effort.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Captain Shoelace?||
It'll be interesting to see if Denard gets elected as a team captain. I thought I recall earlier in the year that Hoke said captains would be selected from amongst the seniors. But, there has got to be strong sentiment on the team to honor Denard.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||I agree: this vid was from Wednesday||
At about the 0:36 mark, Al does mention the "third practice." It makes sense that as they get closer and closer to actually installing the new offense and defense, they'll start shutting down the info available to us.
|3 years 15 weeks ago||Clark coming on strong||
Frank Clark seems to be making quite an initial impression during this first week of practice. J.B. Fitzgerald sees a lot of potential emerging. GMat had some nice words earlier in the week. It'll be interesting to see if Clark gets playing time this Fall instead of redshirting.
