I feel we really didn't appreciate the rivalry and the success we had prior to 2007. MSU had some really good teams under Daugherty and I'm sure it wasn't too disimilar to today. Sure, Michigan won a bunch of games after that and it was fun to dismiss MSU just to get a rise. Now the shoe is on the other foot and some of my MSU friends are now dismissive towards the Michigan/Michigan State game as "just another game". Now I know they don't mean its actually worse than them getting amped up for the game.
|1 day 13 hours ago||This is definitely true||
It goes even deeper. I believe it was in 4th and Long by John U. Bacon where I read Michigan was opposed to having a seperate state school for the land grant scholarship. So the University of Michigan tried to halt the Michigan State University's very existance. Most people break down along the football lines but a friend of mine who is a MSU alumni said since Dantonio came in he breaks down that history outside of athletics as well the barring from the BigTen, "little brother" and some of the sideline conduct from Michigan from that game.

It's supposed to be great weather and watching the debacle on TV won't be any better. As long you stay away from the tennis courts on Chestnut behind the Skandalaris football center and the student entrance on the southeast corner I've never seen a problem. I've had some students in the past in EL say some stupid things but I expect that as it happens in Ann Arbor too. Saw a few students make Sandusky comments to a group of PSU fans two weeks ago and they brushed it off pretty well despite the students persistance.
If anyone else has though about StubHubbing it, try for the north endzone. For one it's concourse it brand new, the fans in those sections are pretty mild compared to the upper deck and students, the BBQ pork sandwich they have over there is solid and it's about as far from the students as possible.
|2 days 14 hours ago||Anyone not hired by Dave||
I'll take anyone whos main attribute for being hired is "he doesn't need a map to get around Ann Arbor" like we currently have.
I don't get people get so whiny about what a rival coach says about Michigan. For example if Mark Dantonio says something bad about Michigan; Michigan fans get bent out of shape over a comment meant to fire up the MSU fans, the ones that actually matter for him. Bo and Woody each had a strong dislike for each others schools and said some pretty wild things in the past. Now as it was then, one is a saint, the other is the devil. It just depended on what side of the border you were on. Some of it is probably very calculated, like a public pep rally for their fan base.
As for a rep for the school I don't think most people outside of the blue bubble really care about how a football coach represents the university. Sure, Brian Kelly had some purple faced moments but at least for me it never took away from ND as whole. Same goes for Brady speaking at a press conference about as inarticulately as possible doesn't change my veiw of Michigan as a school. I really don't think Jim Harbaughs personality and histrionics represented Stanford's academic presitge in a positive or negative way, he just elevated their exposure sold a lot of Stanford t-shirts and hoodies.

That's the only one like that right? Didn't Iowa use the Floyd of Rosedale and I'm pretty sure USC took the jeweled shillelagh from William Wallace himself, setting up the rivalry with Notre Dame.
|4 days 13 hours ago||MSU v. IU 3rd Qtr||
In the 3rd quarter MSU outgained 152 to -22, up 35-17 and inside IU's redzone. Cook is now 24 for 32 with 335 yards and 3 TDs and 1 INT. We'll see how the 4th goes for them.
EDIT: TD for MSU. 42-17.
|4 days 14 hours ago||Damn!||
Slick play for the TD on 3rd and goal for MSU.

Yup, plain as day!

The magazine itself is pretty "douchey" in the way it covers any number subjects and projects itself so it's funny in a hypocritical way.

Just when they played Michigan mostly. The difference is Tommy Amaker is basketball coach at Harvard while Rodriguez is a football coach at a Pac12 school in Arizona. The fact you will simply see Arizona more often is part of the reason but the other part is Harvard may play one big game Arizona gets USC, Oregon, and UCLA which are nationally reknown programs. Pair that with people enjoy watching Oregon choke and USC flop it makes for a more compelling story. The fascination would be lessend if Rodriguez hadn't ended up at another Power 5 school and landed in the MAC or Conference USA.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||Carr Coaching Tree||
The coaching tree for Lloyd has to be one of the most scrawniest trees of any coach of a major program in history. The fact that he was here as long as he was and produced the likes of Ron English, Mike Deboard, and Brady Hoke is sad. I cannot think of a single coach that was on his staff that went on to do great things after Michigan. The Rodriguez tree is more impressive than Carr's with coaches Todd Graham, Butch Jones and even Bill Stewart compared to Carr.
Until Michigan can appreciate and respect the past but also not use it as a crutch to try and remain relevant nothing will change. Those 8 national championships that happend before WW2 really mean nothing to the kids being recruited today.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Pelini is whining||
A couple bad snaps were the least of their problems. Clapping had little impact on the fact Abdullah only had 45 yards on 24 carries which seems to be the strategy to beat Nebraska. In the game against McNeese he only had 54 yards on 17 carries while he has had three games over 200 yards.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||Honestly||
I don't think many would expect the a college athletic department to have a CMO so he operates in stealth. I do agree though that he should take heat but I feel he and Brandon probably have brainstorming sessions with a lot of back patting of each other.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Bad News||
MSU probably won't do this again. Also, Dantonio called out the students for leaving early saying "I said before we needed their help this year." Next MSU home game? Michigan.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Nah||
He hopes we keep Brady. Haven't hit the endzone in two years and so far you may as well make it three.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Rodriguez||
It was a while back but RR comfirmed this publically after Brandon almost two years after hiring Hoke was still jabbing at him. When asked what Brandon knows about the game Rodriguez responed with something along the lines of "less than the average fan."
|3 weeks 20 hours ago||Graham||
Todd Graham has a similar "problem" to Butch Jones with his Rodriguez ties. Graham was the linebackers and co-defensive coordinator at West Virginia in 2001-2002 therefor he is the devil in Schembechler hall. That and his Mr. Buzzcut (from Beavis and Butthead) hair.
Dan Mullin might be the best guy for the job but he "talks funny" and uses the word "ain't" which was an issue before. That's too bad because I think he is a hell of a coach and seem like a coach that kids will play hard for. Same goes for Shaw but I don't think he'll leave Stanford.
Whichever way this goes I'm fully prepared for a coaching search debacle.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||He's gone||
Only time is on Brady's side and even it's turning on him after this week.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||Hoke would love 8-5||
Yes, he is 8-5 but it's not in the BigTen/MAC. That division is brutal with UCLA, USC, Arizona State, Utah (yeah, that Utah), and Colorado. Nevermind the teams that reside in the north division. Also, it's Arizona. A program that has never made a Rose Bowl, is in the middle of no where and historically a sub .500 program. So 8-5 in his first two years with two different QB's, one a walk on, is pretty good and is now starting a freshman QB.
He may not of proven anything yet but he's on the right track and that is pretty hard to deny.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||FoxSports1 America's Pregame||
On that show former Colorado QB Joel Klatt shredded the sideline leadership of Michigan and said some needs to lose their job. Brady Quinn was also with him along with Mike Hill and all agreed and added the sleaze move of the DB 1:00am press release.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I'm almost the worst type of fan||
Why am I becoming the worst? I am becoming the worst case scenario due to apathy.
This is not just due to wins and loses but to our family losing it's tailgating spot of over 36 years in what is now the Champions east lot. It's due form cutting our PSD doubling in the last 4 years. It's due from my yearly donation being laughed at by the department and it's return meaningless. It's from cutting our number of seats from 6 to 4 and possibly to either 2 or none next year as prices will surely increase. This isn't just because of Hoke, it's because of an athletic department that feels it's perfectly fine to push over priced expansion of the athletic campus and asking mostly football ticket holders pay up for a multi-million dollar indoor rowing facility. If the team is going to struggle how can any of this be justified at level it has been pressed?
When it comes to "taking my allegience down I-96" I'll let you know if I see anyone I know when I go with my friend to a MSU game. His family has been able to keep their 6 tickets for the past 20 years as well as their tailgate spot in the lot on Shaw despite their recent success. It's a real shame I can no longer return the favor because I like having both kidneys. Luckily StubHub has $60 tickets for Penn State so maybe I still take them and enjoy a game with people I love and show them a great time in Ann Arbor.

|3 weeks 3 days ago||Bando isn't living in the 60's||
"Brando" and the athletic department are though. This is a classic, old school crisis control move that politicians, businesses, and others that have done wrong have done for years. This department who bathes in it's "This is Michigan" and "Most wins" propaganda still feels it works which is why it came out when it did. Having Hoke discuss it tomorrow in the presser would have been better and just like their Coke give away the athletic department made a bad situation even worse. Hoke will get even more shredded tomorrow and that take place live, in front of national media that go beyond sports.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Cool story Dave||
I still believe Brady Hoke is a good man but a company man to a fault which is why he was hired over more qualified prospects.
This is just an awful statement and no comment till Monday may have been better this fluff.

If you have anything left to give to the department, petition the NCAA for a mercy rule. Not for one second do I think MSU will hold up like they did against Eastern against Michigan and I don't blame them. You will think ND was bad? You ain't seen nothing yet!

Utah is going to have a fight on their hands just to get to a bowl game. They will be lucky to win 4 more games all season playing in the PAC12 South and the teams they have from the North.
Here is their remaining brutal schedule and my opnion of their win/loss:
@ Oregon St. (W)
So far they've only beaten FCS Idaho St., an awful Fresno St. team and Michigan.
