I've heard that Don Cherry was a hoot when he was coaching in the NHL ... Listening to him on TV, I can see him being a handful as a coach.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Madden||
Well, he holds the NCAA record for most short-handed goals in a season, he's won 3 Stanley Cups, and a Selke Trophy. I'd say that Madden is kinda hard to forget ... but he wasn't drafted.

Hopefully Nike won't put those mostly-clear stripes on the collar. What is the purpose of those? And if they have to put them on, why can't the lines at least be parallel?

Officiating for College Hockey as a whole is generally poor.

Grew up a Michigan fan, went to school at Syracuse. The missing "e" in WolvErine is because it's my old AIM handle, and it wouldn't let me have enough letters.

Admittedly, I haven't seen many games this season, but at least from this weekend's games, it looks like what Michigan is missing is a gritty role-player type. The CCM line is great when they can get things going in the zone, but I didn't see a lot of folks filling the "not necessarily a scoring leader, but willing to play as hard as they can to get the job done" ... someone like a Botterill, Shouneyia, Rominski or Ortmeyer.
I feel like the players that stood out to me the most this weekend were Werenski and Kile. They seemed to have a hustle that most of the rest of the team was lacking.

So, apparently the issue was DirecTV ... had a storm earlier, and even though I wasn't watching at the time, apparently the receiver "lost" the HD signal during the storm, and had to be restarted (yay, 10 wasted minutes) to get it back.
Can't wait to ditch DirecTV.

According to ESPN's website, this game was broadcast in HD. However, to me it didn't look like it. Anyone else notice this, or was it just me?
Nice win tonight, hopefully another one tomorrow!

Adding UCF won't do anything for the Big Ten TV market. UCF may be a big school, but in terms of fan support, they're #5 in the state, behind UF, FSU, Miami, and USF. They do have a fairly new stadium (8 years, IIRC), but even discounting this past season, they don't tend to fill it.
On the plus side, UCF football wouldn't have to compete for fans with an NFL franchise, but on the downside, Orlando isn't really known as a sports town (unless you follow MLS ... the Orlando City Lions draw surprisingly well)

From my recollection, the hatless back-bend started when a DM missed touching his plume to the ground (by about 2 or 3 inches ... enough to be clearly seen from Row 68) one game, and the next week came out and took the hat off and performed the back bend without the hat.

That's a good one ... I also like the ESPN announcer who called the UM-Minnesota game in the '96 NCAA Hockey tourney: "I don't believe I just saw what I think I just saw!"

Sodexo took over running the employee cafeteria where I work. As soon as they came in, food prices rose about $2 per item, with no appreciable increase in quality or quantity. Doesn't surprise me at all that they jacked up the prices when they took over UM Athletics.

I think I saw (and bought) something like that at Steve and Barry's when it still existed.
Personally, I (and I'm probably the only one) would like to see a return to the "dazzle" mesh fabric for the hockey jerseys. I'd also like to see the script Michigan reappear on the maize hockey jerseys.
And please, no highlighter yellow goalie pads with a blue that forms the block M when they have their legs together. Don't remember who wore them, but they were awful.
I kinda like Hunwick's pad design in this picture:

Admittedly, I didn't click the link, but it was my understanding that KRACH stood for "Ken's Ratings for American College Hockey", which would seem to be somewhat irrelevant when predicting the College Football playoffs.

He probably has a payback clause in his contract, but he may have negotiated a "Michigan Clause" ... If he's offered the HC job at Michigan, he owes less, or doesn't owe anything. It's been a few years, but I feel like I remember reading that Red helped him get his job at Tech, possibly so he could get some experience as a HC before Red retired.
|1 year 26 weeks ago||Arkansas||
Petrino was a decent coach. He took a bottom of the SEC Arkansas team, and turned them into a team that, while not a powerhouse, established a string of decent records, and decent bowl invitations. He got fired for off-the-field stupidity.
John L Smith was an assistant at Arkansas the previous year, who was hired in April as an interim coach, because they fired Petrino, and they needed someone who was available fast. He was an interim hire, and it was understood that he would not be the permanent coach.
As for Bielma, well, the jury's still out. He's been in some close games, but hasn't managed to pull any of them out at the end. (Just last week, they were 1 endzone interception away and an extra point away from taking the #1 team in the nation to OT). If they can learn to finish, they'll be a pretty decent team.
(For those of you wondering, Mrs. SyracuseWolvrine is an Arkansas alum, so I hear way more about their team than I care to admit)

Do you think Bielma would consider leaving Arkansas to come back to the Big Ten? Would we want him to?

For a second, I was wondering why Coach Beilein was recruiting the guy that scored the GWG in OT of the 1998 NCAA Championship game. And then I realized that this article mentions Josh Langford, not Josh Langfeld.

1996, just for hockey. You've got the Mike Legg goal, and Brendan Morrison winning the championship, plus a few of Turco's amazing saves in the championship game.
