Yes, the game was terribly officiated. Yes, there are several examples of blatant missed calls. But I think the calling for a blanket ban on officials working games in their home state may be misguided.
Matt Shegos is a UM alum. Steve Piotrowski graduated from Ferris. Both of them were widely considered the best in their sport at the time, by coaches across the nation, regardless of whether they are working a game involving their Alma mater.
The real problem is that all the big ten refs are in their 60's, and are not able to keep up with the speed of the game anymore. The big ten needs to promote some new officials and establish a rigorous and public evaluation program. Can't make the grade? You're not assigned to games anymore.

I would love to see the Shegos brothers and Pi, even though football's not really their sport. Although, when compared to John O'Neill, even Mark Wilkins starts to look like a quality referee.

Dr. Fear was the oral surgeon that pulled my wisdom teeth. (Coincidentally, I also went to Huron High with his daughter, who was a competitive swimmer)

On the plus side, it's Friday and there's football tomorrow. On the downside, I am at work and playing catch up after being out sick yesterday.

Great writeup, and Morrison is deserving of all the honors and accolades. That being said, I would argue that his GWG in the championship was the 2nd most memorable goal in Michigan hockey histor, behind the Mike Legg goal earlier in that playoff run.

It's not just Howard, but all the Michigan announcers I remember have had the same understated, even tone in their announcements. Howard and Carl for football, Glenn Williams and Scott Spooner at Yost, Percy Stamps who did a lot of the non revenue sports, all of them believed that the game was more important than the announcer. I dislike going to arenas with an announcer that thinks they have to be the show, probably because I'm spoiled after all the hours at Michigan events, listening to wonderful announcers.
When I went to Syracuse, it was the first year they had an on campus ice rink. One of my friends from the Detroit area was on the club team and mentioned that they needed an announcer, and would I be interested? I had never done PA announcing before, but I just tried to emulate what I had heard from Glen for years. I must've done something right; after the game, my friend mentioned that the announcing made him feel like he was at Yost.

Marty Turco had a pretty good career at UM and was well respected when he played for the Stars. Harbaugh is promoting the entire University, may as elk throw an NHL nod in as well.

Already this inning she has said that "Sydney Romero" had a base hit, and that the "Sooners" just scored 3 runs in the B4. The announcers are almost as bad as the strike zone

First called strike three of the game.
Out oof curiosity for people who played or coached, how much of Betsa's pitching motion (bounce, twist, bounce, rock back, bounce, then throw) affects the throw, and how much is just "routine"?

And before that, the first round of the CCHA playoff was a two-game total goals series. That lead to some interesting finishes. Not necessarily a format I want to see return, but interesting nonetheless.

Played a game of pickup hockey with Bobby Hayes when he was student teaching at Northside and I was working as a rink guard when they froze part of their soccer field in the winter.
Not athletics, but I also "murdered" Eric Nystrom in a high school film class project ... really bad mafia script, I was the corrupt cop.
Both of them were nice guys.

I've heard that Don Cherry was a hoot when he was coaching in the NHL ... Listening to him on TV, I can see him being a handful as a coach.

Well, he holds the NCAA record for most short-handed goals in a season, he's won 3 Stanley Cups, and a Selke Trophy. I'd say that Madden is kinda hard to forget ... but he wasn't drafted.

Admittedly, I haven't seen many games this season, but at least from this weekend's games, it looks like what Michigan is missing is a gritty role-player type. The CCM line is great when they can get things going in the zone, but I didn't see a lot of folks filling the "not necessarily a scoring leader, but willing to play as hard as they can to get the job done" ... someone like a Botterill, Shouneyia, Rominski or Ortmeyer.
I feel like the players that stood out to me the most this weekend were Werenski and Kile. They seemed to have a hustle that most of the rest of the team was lacking.

So, apparently the issue was DirecTV ... had a storm earlier, and even though I wasn't watching at the time, apparently the receiver "lost" the HD signal during the storm, and had to be restarted (yay, 10 wasted minutes) to get it back.
Can't wait to ditch DirecTV.

Adding UCF won't do anything for the Big Ten TV market. UCF may be a big school, but in terms of fan support, they're #5 in the state, behind UF, FSU, Miami, and USF. They do have a fairly new stadium (8 years, IIRC), but even discounting this past season, they don't tend to fill it.
On the plus side, UCF football wouldn't have to compete for fans with an NFL franchise, but on the downside, Orlando isn't really known as a sports town (unless you follow MLS ... the Orlando City Lions draw surprisingly well)
