In 2 years the salary cap could rise significantly and these deals might end up being a bargain. My biggest issue is the age. If Nielsen gets injured, it could be another Stephen Weiss debacle.

Since the salary cap was implemented, the only good move he's made was trading for Brad Stuart in 2008. I have a feeling he'll end up just like Joe Dumars. Hailed as the best GM at one time, only to be fired for running the team into the ground with terrible free agent signings.

Yet another reason why there was no need to keep Helm around. At least use that money for someone like Martin, who led the league in hitting.
