Defense wins championship

We have the talent not it's time for our boys to ball out; it's well overdue.

This sucks...

Really this sucks big time. There one thing that I stand firm against is DUI. Bone head move Fitz you could of killed others and yourself. This is not being a team player whatsoever. If Fitz is guilty he needs to be suspened for the first two games of the season, period.

Well said...

It is an honor to be an Elite 11 QB, but in the end it actually does not matter. Hoke got his man in Shane Morris.

Shane was robbed...

Wins the golden shirt award and is ranked at the top for most of the five days, but is not picked as one of the Elite 11. Me to Trent Dilfer, Trent you sir are clueless. Congrats to all the players who participated in this years Elite 11. Good luck on your senior season.

#ShaneIsTheRealDeal #GoBlue

Shane is...

It looks like Shane Morris is traveling the world and go back in history. Great stuff!!

Elite 11 Coaches What?

Every article that I read and video I have seen has given Shane Morris a ton of props. Everyone that has reported on the Elite 11 has considered Shane as one of the top 3 QB's at the camp. What are the coaches seeing at this camp that observers are not seeing?

Yawn...

Not Mgoblog.com worthy!

still have depth...

Michigan will still have depth with incoming freshmen SG/PG Stauskas, PF Hornford, SG/SF Vogrich, PF/C Bielfedt and C/PF McLimans...plus Michigan is still in the run for PG/SG Amedeo Della Valle who is a 3* recruit and Scout has hi as the #26 SG in the country. The roation will go 8 to 9 deep in 2012-2013 season. The cup board is not empty.

Stock can go up...

Trey height is what it is, but he can work on his strength, work on his ball handling, shot selection and getting others involved more. This is what is key for an NBA PG. Burke is a good college PG, but is far from being a NBA quality PG. Marcus Taylor, Anthony Roberson, Patrick Mills, and look at Eric Bledsoe. Bledsoe was a the #18 overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder and traded to the Clippers. Eric played one year with the Clippers and now is playing in the NBADL this year. Bledsoe played at Kentucky and left after his freshmen season. Eric is 6'1" and a better ball handler and has a quicker first step than Trey, he is out of the NBA after on year.

Stay in school and improve your game. The NBA does not wait to develop its players, it is a business and will continue to move forward.

For sure...

You nailed it. The NBA is so deep with quality PG that I can't see an average PG like Trey making an NBA roster. When I say average, I am basing it off his NBA skills. Burke lacks the size, strength and passing ability to be a quality NBA PG this early in his career. Stay in school another year and work on improving everything about your game or else Burke will be nothing but a NBADL player or playing overseas.

I like his game...

Not sure if Michigan can work the scholarship numbers, but if they can I would love to have Zeigler. Zeigler is a slasher and a scorer, what is not to like. He had offers from Michigan, MSU, OSU, UCLA, Duke and Kansas prior to picking to play at CMU for his dad. He is a former 4 star and top 150 recruit, the kid can ball.

Well said...

You nailed it Pinball Pete. Michigan has been full of surprises under JB. If things continue like they have under JB, Michigan should have another succesful season, but this time around make some noise in the NCAA tournament.

ball handler and low post presence...

The two biggest keys to Michigan's success next season will be a second ball handler to take the pressure of Trey Burke and someone who can be effective in the low post. I strongly feel the extra ball ahndler is already on the team in Burndidge. Yeah, Brndidge struggled as a true freshmen and soaked a little during the season after it was clear Burke was going to get the vast majority of the minutes at PG. However, Burndidge is a very good handler with an explosive first step, lets also not forget he was a 4 star recruit coming out of Southfield; the kid can play, just struggled of the college game and having Burke being the man.

If Carlton can over come his freshmen blues, which I believe he can, he will be the #2 primer ball handler for the Wolverines next season. I expect him to earn 10 to 12 minutes a game playing the point and the #2 in the offense.

As for Nick Stauskas, I believe you're giving him a little bit to much credit. Having a big two guard is always nice to have, especially one that can handle the rock. (quick note: Travis Conlan was the last big PG for Michigan not Jalen Rose. Conlan was 6'5" and was the starter for three years. Currently is 5th in total assists and steals in the Michigan record books.) I just can't see Stauskas coming in and starting over Glen Robinson III. I can see JB moving Hardaway over to the two and playing and Robinson III at the three while Evan Smotrycz plays the four and McGary and Morgan rotate minutes at the five. McGary will start by B1G play, he is more atheletic, a better passer, better shooter and has better feet than Morgan.

A line-up like this gives Michigan a better opportunity to run and attack the rim, and allows players like Stauskas, Burndidge, Vogrich and Horford to contribute off the bench.

How the minutes will be broken down:

PG /SG- Burke (30-32)

SG/SF - Hardaway Jr. (30-32)

SF/PF - Robinson III (25-28)

PF - Smotrycz (25-28)

Center/PF - McGary (22-25)

Bench - Morgan at center  (15-17), Stauskas at SG and SF (10-12), Burndidge at PG (8-10), Vogrich at both Forward positions (6-8) and Horford at center and PF (6-8).

Robinson III and McGary are going to get a bulk of the minutes as freshmen, not Stauskas. This Mitch and Glenn Michigan a much more atheletic team that can run up and down the court and still hurt you from outside, and the key is be effective rebounding on both sides of the court.

Demens, will start...

Yes, no player is guaranteed to start, but no way can I see Kenny Demens losing his starting MLB job after a very solid junior year that earned him honorable mention All B1G honors from the media and coaches. I expect Demens and Kovacs to be the leaders of the 2012 Michigan defense. I do see Desmond Morgan losing his LB starting job down the road or spliting a lot of time with Royce-Jenkins and even Hawthorne early in the year. Joe Bolden I expect to replace Demens at MLB in 2013, but will get his share of plays this coming season.

Happy Trails

Best wishes Isiah Bell where ever you end up. Thanks for never developing into a solid player for Michigan. So much was expected from you, but you brought nothing to the table. The writing was on the wall you were out the door when you were moved to WDE after the Sugar Bowl. Hope all goes well for you in life. "Those Who Stay Will Be Champions!"

Poor and Boring

First the letter was bad, sorry, but it was. Secondly, Michigan has yet to sign any players for the 2013 recruting class, they can't sign anyone until February 2013. Good attempt, just not worthy being on this blog site.

Epic Fail

Don't mess with the wing helmet!

Don't mess with the colors!

Don't mess with the uniforms!

THIS IS MICHIGAN!

A bust waiting to happen

Dillion Baxter was all hype. Yeah, the kid has a ton of talent, but you need more than talent to succeed in college, especially at places like USC who always recruit to end talent. Obviously Baxter did not like competition and couldn't adjust his attitude now will be looking for a 3rd college in two years to play at. Odds are he ends up in some FCS school. What a waste of talent. So glad Michigan didn't land him. Go Blue!

He will play guard

What a great pick up for Hoke and his staff. They really starting to get all the best players in the state of Michigan, and they are doing it early. Welcome David Dawson and good luck in your senior year at Cass Tech. Go Blue!

Defense wins championships...

Mattison is doing a great job at Michigan. The defense will be ready for Alabama, and the best players will be on the field. I like the move of Beyer moving to WDE. It will be great competiton between Beyer, Clark and Black. All will play but only one will start. Roh is more of a SDE, a good move by Mattison. Go Blue!

Good Luck...

I hope Manny can do something with his second chance in the NBA.

A big kid with tons of potential...

Michigan landed a solid player in Dan Gibbs. The kid turned down full rides from MAC schools to get a chance at a full ride in 2013 by performing on the field for his dream school. He is a big kid who appears to play with a mean streak what Michigan needs for a team that wants to run the ball down field in the very near future. Welcome to Michigan, Dan and best of luck.

It will take time...

I too hope LTT picks Michigan, but I don't expect any decision any time soon. With Alabama now in the picture and schools like 0hi0, Florida State and Notre Dame in the picture, you can guarantee LTT will not make decision until he takes all his "official" visits. I hope I am wrong and he picks Michigan during the summer; this would help bring other key recruits in.

Me too...

I say Hill will be a H-Back or WDE in college.

Interesting commitment.

Khalid Hill, now this is an interesting commitment. Hill is 6'2" 220 to 230 and plays TE and DE for Crockett. 247 has Hill as a 3 star TE grade at an 86. Scout and ESPN have him also as a TE but have not done their rankings for the 2013 class. Rivals is condsidering him a Weak Side DE.

Here is a good link on the newest Michigan commitment for the 2013 class.

Or..

just maybe it will be Demar Dorsey who will now be eligible after attending Grand Rapids Junior College. The kid is so talented, and really, really wants to play for Michigan. The question is does this coaching staff want him on the roster??

It will be...

The soon to be 4 star Jourdan Lewis. Michigan will welcome yet another Detroit Cass Tech player.

The better team won

The Giants started the season going 6-2. Then they lossed four in a row @ San Fran (27-20) when they blew a 13-12 lead  in the 4th Qt thanks to turnovers. vs. Philly (17-10) after tying the game in the 4th. @ New Orleans (49-24) where Brees put on a clinic against the G-Men defense. vs. Green Bay (38-35) where they lost on a game ending 31 yard FG. From there the Giants went on to finish the season 3-1 to win the NFC East.

So to say they didn't deserve to win the Super Bowl is a joke. They survived a brutal 16 game NFL season and rose to the occasion in the playoffs. Beating a very good (10-6) Falcons team that many felt the Giants would lose. Beat the best NFL team in the regular season Packers on the road, when nobody gave them a chance. Then went on the road again and beat the 2nd best team in the NFC San Fran in sloppy conditions on the road; again few gave the Giants a shot at winning.

The Giants continued their 5 game winning streak by beating the mighty Tom Brady and his Patriots for the 2nd time in four years. That means the Giants beat the three best teams in the NFL regular season in the playoffs when teams are suppose to let it all hang out.

I have no problem with a 9-7 or 8-8 team winning the Super Bowl because I know the road for teams like that are much more difficult than teams that finish 13-3 or better. Injuries happen throughout a season and sometimes this causes teams not being able to win 10 or more games in the regular season, but come playoff time things sometimes come together. It happens in all professional sports. Look at the St. Louis Cardinals they won the World Series last year as a wild card team beating the mighty pitching staff of Philadelphia and Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers in the World Series. All those teams won their division and the Cards got hot at the end of the year to edge the Atlanta Braves for the WC spot on the last day of the regular season.

This is what makes sports and the playoffs awesome to watch, because you just never know what can happen. The regular season is just the stepping stone, the playoffs are where championships are won and legends are made.
