Would anyone disagree that Brandon came to Michigan's AD with the goal of creating an empire with himself as the deity? He didnt even offer the position to Harbaugh or Miles because it would be the easy decision; he wanted to be the guy who drafted Tom Brady in the 6th round. He wanted everyone to eat crow, and no one can eat crow if you make the easy decision. That's why he didnt listen to the students: because he knew better. That's why he sent alumni shitty emails: because we're plebians in his empire.
Hackett isn't that guy.
If you're phenominal at what you do, what do you want out of a boss? You want someone who can get you what you need to succeed, then gtfo of the way. Brandon was a micromanager. Hackett is clearly not.

I would imagine, though, that he doesnt have a guy yet. He probably has options, like he should. Miles may be his top option right now. But I refuse to believe anyone with a pulse would have their head so far in the sand as to not even attempt to offer Harbaugh the job. (and maybe he has, or will, and we may never know about it).

But we don't have cameras following us when we stay late at the office or wake up at 3:30 am so that we can make our kids lunches before preparing to grind at work in order to earn enough for dinner.
Hoke is not an anomaly of effort and determination. He's just a mediocre football coach.

There was a huge study done years ago by a British institute aiming at the same questions brought up here. Their conclusion was that America lacks competent coaching at all levels. Previously, most coaches knew very little about soccer at all, let alone world class soccer. This is absolutely changing. Kids have more access to high quality coaching than ever before. You will see the US continue to gain relevance in the soccer world as we bring in foreign coaches and learn from foreign coaches and create our own national brand of soccer.
That is where Klinsman is proving to be the ideal hire. He has not only managed the men's senior team, he has dictated a US style and made broad changes to the youth system by bringing in amazing coaches, establishing infrastructure for kids to get more access to coaching, and by creating a semblance of a talent investment structure similar to that of Germany.
The arrow is definitely pointing up for Us soccer.

|31 weeks 5 days ago||Assuming that we are talking||
Assuming that we are talking about a series of indpeendent and identically distributed trials (which sports are surely not), it won't produce extraneous results. Here's why:
By using "at least" what you're saying is that everything after the 4th win is irrelevant, the computer is basically multiplying its answer by 1 for every game after that 4th win since a win or a loss by team A still results in team A winning the series.
The order is incorporated into the binomial distribution calculations done by Excel.
Considering the answer given by Excel is identical to the one done by hand, and identical to the one produced by the OP's code, i'd say it's pretty accurate.
|31 weeks 5 days ago||wut?||
|31 weeks 5 days ago||Alternatively, you could look||
Alternatively, you could look at it as a binomial distribution question and compute P(A wins series|A win game X)
Which, on Excel, would be "=1-binomdist(2,6,0.5,true)"
2=number of successes
6=number of trials
This will give you the Probability of A winning between 0 and 2 games, meaning Team A loses the series... So you do 1-that answer to get the P(A wins series).
Doing it this way negates the neccesity to do different calcluations for th series ending in 5, 6, or 7 games because we use the "at least" term. The computer will still compute all 6 remaning games, but as the numbers show, the results are the same.... and it's a lot less work.

When you are talking about predictive modeling on things with such high variability and conditionalities, 70% accuracy is pretty damn good.
The big problem is that all predictive models are essentially extrapolators. Extrapolation is always tricky, especially when you apply it to exceedingly variable things: like sports. Especially sports played by teenagers.

Thats a mighty big IF. I knew players while I was at Michigan too. Mister Simpson was waaaay better than Mike Hart, the only reason Hart started was because him and Coach Carr were butt buddies. This all from the horses mouth, so you know its a fact.
Look. College football players are used to being THE guy, so when they aren't playing, they always blame others first. Or racism. But it's never because they are not the best at their position. Never.
The word of backup players is never the right reason to get rid of a coach. I've seen really good coaches get canned (at the high school level) because bratty backups complained loud enough to the higher ups. It's bullshit.
Be upset with Hoke because the team looks piss poor on the field. Don't put any stock into the rumors of an (alleged) internet friend of a few backup players on the team.

I don't think Morgan is an all-big ten type Mike, but he's good, and he's going to be a senior next year.

1) Given his unique athleticism, the coaches felt he was an asset on special teams, where athleticism is often the most important trait.
2) Mattison has stated in the past how Thomas will likely be an NFL player. Perhaps the coaches felt it unlikely that he would stay 5 years, so why not get him on the field this year?
In my optimistic oppinion, the fact that Thomas played special teams this year but didn't start speaks more positively of him than if he had been redshirted and annointed as the future of the defensive backfield.
|51 weeks 3 days ago||I believe what you are||
I believe what you are referring to are the defensive linemen saying they were scared of him when he pulled because he packed a punch. The coaches never said he was one of the better guards, and he was never higher on the depth chart than Glasgow or Burzynski.

|51 weeks 3 days ago||But MSU and OSU are making||
But MSU and OSU are making replacements too. The unproven argument is nullified because every team replaces people. Pipkins and Thomas were heavily praised by Mattison, and the consensus on Thomas was that he needed year to improve his coverage, but that he was easily one of the best athletes on the team. Pipkins was a starter this year before getting hurt.
Chris Bryant never received such praise and started the year behind TWO walk-ons. apples and oranges there.
|51 weeks 3 days ago||I'm oddly optimistic about||
I'm oddly optimistic about next season. We replace starters Thomas Gordon and Jabril Black on defense with Dymonte Thomas (probably) and Ondre Pipkins while keeping in tact a really really good linebacker core of Ryan, Morgan, and Ross. Depth will be in our favor with guys like Ojemudia, Poggi, Stribling, and Gedeon all progressing. Not to mention the addition of Jabrill Peppers.
If we can avoid crippling injuries on defense, and if our offense can figure out how to gain some consistancy (that's the big 'if") then I really think we could win 4 of those road games and compete for the B1G title.
I think there's a good chance we turn the corner next year. I'll predict we lose to ND, but win the rest.

The difference is in poker there are 52 cards that never change. Football is a bit more complicated.
Either way, these automated decision functions are heuristics at best. They should never ever considered to be deterministic.
Though ultimately I agree with you. A good coach should be able to use all the available data (both historical and situational) and consider the constraints and the specific situation in order to make the best call for the given situation. The best call isn't always going to be the one dictated by these charts.

Welcome to the wonderful world of scotch! Im not the most knowledgable, but I know a few things:
Id reccomend figuring out what kind of scotch you like: Islay scotch (peaty (smokey), sometimes leathery, peppery), Sherried scotch (sweet, bold, winey), or if you're more middle of the road. Some entry levels for each:
Islay: Tallisker 10 year, Highland Park 12, Laphroaig 10 year.
Sherry: Aberlour 12 year, Macallan 12 year Sherry Oak
Middle of the road: Glenfiddich 12 year, Glenmorangie Original, Cragganmore 12.
Once you know what aspects of scotch you like and what you dont, you can continue on your quest to find the perfect scotch for you. Personally, I will drink any of them but Islay scotches are my favorite. Lagavulin 16, Laphroaig 18, Tallisker Storm... Those are my happy place.

Theres a difference between tempering expectations and accepting this flaming tire fire of an offense.
I said nothing of tradition. I spoke of infrastructure. When you have the infrastructure that Michigan has, there are no excuses for not being a perennial top-15 team. You can attract the talent, you can pay the coaches.
|1 year 2 weeks ago||So, because we changed||
So, because we changed coaches, we should temper our expectations for 4 years?
That's absurd. Wisconsin changed coaches this year and they are arguably a BETTER team.
Auburn changed coaches, has 3 underclass offensive line starters (Including Alex Kozan), and has a top 10 rushing offense in the nation.
It is not unrealistic to assume a program with the largest fanbase, the largest stadium, and top 5 in revenue could be able to compete for a Big Ten Title EVERY YEAR.
Expecting less is settling for less than we have the potential to be. To be anything except the best is unacceptable.
