I got suckered into chaperoning a school trip for my son's seventh grade class this weekend. The upside is that it will probably be fun. The fear started when my wife said that she and my daughter can't wait for their girls weekend. She is taking my daughter shopping and for other girly things that I dare not inquire into too deeply. I'm worried she's going to visit all of the stores your are contemplating, but without the damper my customary grunted response provides. This could be an expensive weekend. |

This post gets at the issue of the "bare cupboard". Lloyd supporters get very huffy when the idea of a dearth of talent is mentioned as part of the explanation for last year's 3-9 and the lack of depth on this year's team. Rich Rod supporters on the other hand refuse to allocate blame to their guy simply because they see a team that lacks depth of talent, especially on defense. BlueinLansing nails it. We have had an enormous number of busts over the last few recruiting classes and most of these were due to injury or dismissal from the team. I don't blame Carr for the losses of players like Bass and other injury victims. Carr does bear the blame, however, for Jr. and Sr. players who can't beat out freshmen. I think we had some scouting failures in the later years of Carr's tenure. There are plenty of reasons for our current thinness at many positions, but the key is to make the most out of the opportunities that we have and to recruit the State and nationally to get some depth and avoid the attrition that has plagued us. Hopefully we start to see it next year, but kudos to BlueinLansing for encapsulating the key reason behind our current lack of depth. |

Not much of the crab stance, but man, what an impact Roh had today. His bull rush success came out of nowhere. All indications were he was spins and speed, too light to move a Division I lineman. Western's line wasn't that small. I guess we'll have some better data after next week, but I'd love to seem him plant that punk Clausen a few times. Some of my favorite images over the years have been Michigan defensive lineman lording over ND quarterbacks (Crable over a crushed Clausen; Branch over a bulldozed Brady Quinn, etc.) It would be nice to see Graham or Roh take the shine off Weis' hype machine after their win today. |

I think this is a phenomena that many Michigan fans have suspected for years, but had no comprehensive proof of other than their own observations. Kudos on a very throrough and informative look at what we all know in the back of our minds...A tie in rivalry with Indiana would help. |
