Two of the biggest positive data points to come out of this are that Pipkins has continued to keep his weight down, and, a bit further under the radar, that Chris Fox has dropped almost 30 lbs to get back to functional weight.
Has there been any buzz about Fox at all since the spring? He was one of the more highly-regarded linemen we brought in -- I remember seeing a couple of Buckeye threads where people actually admitted being disappointed they didn't land him -- but his injury caused him to balloon to critical mass. In the best-case scenario, he could push -- or even surpass -- Braden for the RT spot.
For those who may have forgotten, here's a tidbit from his recruiting post:
…a massive player with a solid base, and despite that mass, he moves very well. He's already built like a college lineman, and has time to add strength before contributing in college - even though he probably doesn't need to. Fox was one of the few players to win a rep against 2014's top player, Da'Shawn Hand, and was not soundly beat on any rep.

This is exactly what I thought of the other day! I bet Terry Richardson, Delonte Hollowell, and sans-pellet gun Boubacar could've been pretty good soccer players.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Disagree||
I watched Bradley on defense, and he hardly looked more engaged in that capacity than he did on the attack. Plenty of plays went right past him.
It was an all-around nightmare of a match.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Seriously||
Bradley has done shiny fuck-all in this match. He looks like Charlie Adam with less flair.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Yup.||
|6 weeks 2 days ago||Well||
He was a running back.
So you got that goin' for you, which is nice.

Harris looks really good, and if I was forced to lay a bet on which back would be better as a college player, I might lean towards Harris.
But Isaac has already shown something at USC, while Harris has some of the same question marks about competition that Isaac did. As well as the standard variance that comes with 18 year old kids leaving home, etc.
I really wanted Isaac two classes ago, more than Dunn and way more than Green. I think there's a very good chance he could end up being a better player than Harris, even if you're only talking about him as a runner.

I wonder if Sam would be thrilled about you posting the gist of your conversation - in which he's critical of a young relative - on the internet for everyone to see.

You pretty much just blowtorched Klinsmann. Well done. Especially the last line.

Does he play in a tweed jacket while smoking a pipe? Does he have to sneak time on the court in between fox hunts? Does that fact that he's a character from Edwardian fiction hurt his upside?

That he's currently Just A Shooter, so maybe he needs to develop other parts of his game.
|11 weeks 6 days ago||Here's what people fail to understand||
Our knowledge of what coaches talk about or emphasize comes from press conferences, which matter fuck all to anyone but the fans themselves. To assume that all Hoke does is run around Schembecler bellowing about toughness and physicalness and tradition because that's what he talks about at the podium is a high expression of navel-gazing.

Holy black-nail-polish shit, with the emo, Brian. Right now I'm just going to snarkily suggest that maybe you're engaged in parody of the woebegone fan , but before too long I might honestly wonder.

One can complain about the timing of media stories without necessarily being happy that Sterling has prostate cancer (which he's apparently had for a while.) The OP could be read as mocking the ostensible narrative that is being forwarded by news stories which are now publicizing said cancer.

I'm not necessarily arguing with your overall conclusion, but losing starters from year to year does not by itself indicate a lack of roster depth.

Yes, yes, your lack of pre-marital celibacy in general terms was what I was referring to. Not your claim to take advantage of chubby and insecure women in order to address your own insecurity. I'm just a member of the no-fun police jealous of how you were crushin' it with the ladies, brah.
Also: dime pieces? (Twice!) How fucking old are you? Are you an un-frozen caveman frat boy from 2001 or something?

For now I don't really Brian's NCAA bitching, as it might be keeping the inches devoted to football bitchiness down to a minimum.
Careful what you wish for and all that.

|13 weeks 6 days ago||Agreed: acting like most||
Agreed: acting like most teams in the country do not also have coaches who did not play the position they are coaching seems to be an example of the pervasive bitchiness Brian's luxuriating in recently.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Well||
Like I say, Everton these days are a pretty likeable club from a neutral perspective.
As for Suarez, I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I think he's villified more than he deserves. The 'racist abuse' incident with Patrice Evra was somewhat manufactured and not even close to as sinister as shorthand references to the incident make it appear.*
He plays like a recently uncaged animal on the pitch at times, though, and will not hesitate to lie, cheat and steal in athletic terms in order to score and win. As a Liverpool fan, I get frustrated most of all with the diving, especially because for every dive there's a play where he gets the shit kicked out of him, stays up, and doesn't get the whistle. He contributes to a unvirtuous cycle wherein referees don't give him the benefit of the doubt sometimes because of his diving, which leads him to get frustrated with the lack of calls, which leads him to dive and exaggerate contact to get those calls.
I sometimes put the gloss on it that he's from the very poor streets of Montevideo and has learned to play football with the passion of someone whose had to kick and scrap for everything's he's ever received. And, by all accounts, he's a very quiet, low-key figure off the pitch who's devoted to his family. He's also arguably the best player in the league right now (other than Toure, I don't know who's even in the conversation.)
*Evra's claim(s), for example, that Suarez yelled out 'negro' five times in a row- wait, no, ten times in a row in the midst of a group of players while a corner kick was being taken are dubious and devoid of any substantiating evidence.
|13 weeks 6 days ago||Ah, right||
Not trying to be an asshole here, but I'd sort of forgotten that City were still in the race, even though their chances have become pretty slim.* Glad there's a rational explanation!
