Smith is an absolute beast in pass pro. At least once in the Iowa game I saw him stone a DT when Bredeson on took on a blitzing LB. There are several times each game where I notice him picking up a free rusher and stopping him in his tracks. The other backs are either not big enough (Evans and Higdon) or not physical enough (Isaac) to do the job nearly as well.

If an offense can move the ball but can't score, whether because of turnovers or mere red zon ineptitude, it's not a good offense.
They did put up 21 non-garbage-time points against Wisconsin, ranked 43rd in DFEI that year. But they were humiliated by the DFEI 40th MSU defense.
Overall, the 2010 offense had very good games against a good-but-not-great UConn defense, a very good ND defense, and a surprisingly good Illinois defense. They put up big numbers against horrible BGSU, IU, and UMass defenses, and they looked fairly good against middling Penn State, Purdue, and Wisconsin defenses.
They looked bad to bed-shittingly bad against a mediocre MSU defenses and very good/elite Iowa, OSU, and Miss. St. defenses.
That's a mixed goddamn bag if I've ever seen one, and it shades closer to mediocre than good in my opinion.
Claiming 2010 as evidence of a Rodriguez offensive juggernaut is what's revisionist.
Points, DFEI rank (standout performance)
UConn: 30, #39
ND: 28, #11
BGSU: 65, #92
IU: 42, #102
MSU: 17, #40
Iowa: 28, #16 (14 points garbage time)
PSU: 31, #48 (7 points garbage time)
Illinois: 67 (45 in reg.), #18
Purdue: 27, #47
Wisconsin: 28 (7 points garbage time), #43
OSU: 7, #2
Miss. St.: 14, #14

McDonough is a smarmy little fuck who sure seems like he can't stand Michigan. There is literally no announcer I would be happier say SEEYA too. People bagged on Spielman because they were ready to see bias in him no matter what, but I thought if anything he was pretty soft on Michigan (and a great commentator). McDonough would often disagree with Spielman whenever he got too complimentary about Michigan. I cannot fucking stand that little shit.

That's a criminally underrated establishment.
|34 weeks 18 hours ago||From the start, your argument||
From the start, your argument about wedding cakes is a non-sequitur, because it has nothing to do with what HB2 actually does. It does not limit the right to refuse services relating to gay weddings or to any other narrowly defined activities. It alllows discrimination, full stop.
Second, you actually do appear to state an (admittedly somewhat flaccid) endorsement close to the segregationist states' rights argument which I lampooned in my original post. ('I sure wish people didn't feel that way, but I still don't think the government should get involved.')
To take the wedding cake example further, would it be right and proper to defend a bakery that was just fine with birthday cakes for black customers, but wouldn't cater to an interracial wedding? Before you reply that the difference is some notion of 'religious beliefs,' be aware that many devout Christians did believe segregation of races to be ordained by God. Many white supremacist groups today believe the same - should they be allowed to refuse services to non-white people?
Finally, re: trans people. Perverts gonna pervert, trans or not. What's currently stopping male deviants from men's rooms, or female deviants from women's rooms? And regardless, is it fair to discriminate against trans people because non-trans, heterosexual creeps might do some ill shit?
The law is hateful. If it was based on such ostensibly high-minded principle you say it was, explain to me why was it passed with such stealth and secrecy.
|34 weeks 1 day ago||Totally on board||
Just like how Woolworth's should have been able to refuse service to those colored folks they thought were antithetical to civilized society. Goddamn federal overreach is what it is.
Also, the completely fictitious scenario of trans people creeping in bathrooms.

You're moving the goalposts here. The argument is not whether Smith will bring Illinois to the level of Saban or Carroll's programs. The argument is whether he will outperform what he did in the pros considering the nature of the job he has. If Smith can make Illiois a perennial division contender in the B1G West, that's impressive considering the long-term state of that program. Anyone who expects him to do what Saban or Carroll did is bananas.

Uh, why? He do something to you?
You know that's not Mike D'antonio, right?

I think you're giving Ole Miss too much credit. A quick glance at the teams' Wikipedia pages shows a pretty comparable oedigree. Also, Houston Nutt and Ron Zook are basically the same coach.

This is the first I've heard about LSU running a tight ship. Les certainly didn't do so at Oklahoma State. If anything, I'd bet LSU is like Ohio State -- they run a tight ship in that no one in the state is going to say a solitary word to the NCAA about any violations.

Being sarcastic, or not?
Straight guy here, so not an expert, but I'd be surprised to hear ladies say Schiano is a particularly good-looking dude. Unless they're into the whole Nick Lachay but more simian thing.

And you nailed it. They look like shit that was airbrushed on the side of a van. In terms of design, those are deeply silly helmets.

He won't get the same tyle of classes at, say, Rutgers, of course. But he's still a good recruiter He certainly 'sold Michigan' better than Rodriguez did.

Let me be clear that I think Hoke needed to go.
But I don't know why people keep trotting out the 'one year less experience in the OL' stat as condemnation. One whole year less across the OL, the position where experience matters more than any except maybe QB, seems like kind of a big deal to me.

What an insightful and creative contribution!
|1 year 7 weeks ago||Breaston||
Pre-foot injury Breaston was about as fast as anyone I've seen for Michigan, except for maybe Denard. He lost a step after that, though.

If there's one thing Smith doesn't have trouble with, it's running through the tackles of defenders under 250 lbs.

At any point, did anything about posting this picture in a discussion about a 17 year-old boy strike you as maybe, I don't know, a little weird? Creepy even?

I really think Gary is a special talent - better than McDowell or Hand. If his high school tape reminds me of one player, it's Ndamakong Suh. He has the choice of either depositing lineman behind the line of scrimmage OR beating them around the edge.

I wrote about how I have dreams about being a woman on him and hid him under my mattress.
Also he's really good at press coverage.

This post feels more like a backdoor way to slam Gardner than anything else. I'd fucking love to see Gardner be here for a coherent offense coached by top-shelf talent.
Don't care how long you've been around, bruh, you're saying nothing of value here.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||No one is worried that it's impolite||
It's just fucking stupid. It's the goddamn Early Season Bart Simpson of cheers.
'See ya,' by contrast, is 18x more obscene, but it's original and funny.
Dickhead first graders say 'you suck.' Using it as a chant is a vociferous declaration of being an unimaginative dickhead.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||Conflating two things||
I knew the dudes who were the weirdo claw zealots. They were trying to replace the standard 'first down' motion, which they thought looked like the FSU/Atlanta Braves chop thing. Had nothing to do with 'you suck' - which does, after all, consist of words and not an arm motion, and did not exist until at least 2005.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||No||
Absolutely did not happen to any significant degree in 2003, nor 2004.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||Spielman also said that, with||
Spielman also said that, with Harbaugh, the days of OSU's recent dominance are over, and that the programs will be even once again. Pretty bold statement considering OSU's record the past 3 years.
People who think Spielman is biased these days are going into the game looking for any example they can get, and ignoring all the complimentary things he says - when warranted - about Michigan.
|1 year 11 weeks ago||I think it's funny when||
I think it's funny when people complain about Spielman's bias - he all but gave Michigan a tongue bath in this game.
Sean McDonough, on the other hand, is a mkserable, shaved fucking rat who clearly hates Michigan, and also visibly bristled when Spielman knocked the SEC.
