Nothing against the athletes…

Nothing against the athletes. The league itself was a wreck financially, several teams folded, and had some very poor decisions (on separate occasions, they changed locations for Finals games, last minute, due to scheduling conflicts with the venues - once for a Celine Dion concert, the second time for Disney on Ice)

My dad got my brother and I a gag gift for Xmas - paperback of "everything great about Ohio state football".  It's 175 blank pages

My 6yo went back to school and told everyone - EVERYONE students, teachers, administrators about this book and how hilarious it was because (as he tells it) "there is nothing great about Ohio state football, right dad?"

Made me proud.

"Back to the WNBA - that "deciding" third game met a scheduling conflict with a Celine Dion concert.   Yeah.  Legit sport league.   Imagine game 7 of the World Series moving because Ricky Martin was playing at Pac Bell
...  shitty thing is, this happened AGAIN.  Same team (Detroit Shock) in 2006.   Instead of moving it to the hockey arena, they moved the
final game to EASTERN MICHIGAN'S FIELDHOUSE and the scheduling
conflict was DISNEY ON ICE.   I'm not making this shit up"

The wnba finances are the sole reason for my username.  Not that the NBA doesn't have it to spend or some other sanctimonious "you should use this elsewhere!" reasons, but simply it's a horrible financial drain on most involved

Once, the deciding game of the finals was moved due to a conflict with a (Celine Dion?) concert.  It happened again but the second time the conflict was with Disney on Ice...

In 2013(?) Wisconsin beat Michigan for the Big Ten Title (reg season) by banking in a three pointer.  A sparty friend of mine sent me a message along the lines of "bad beat.  i hate wisconsin, they're like the guy driving a moped on the freeway"

And ever since, MOPED ON THE FREEWAY is the way I describe Wisconsin basketball (recently extended to describe Iowa football)

I looked up the box score for the 31-3 win in 1991.  I was curious when in the game Howard broke the punt return (give them a 3 TD lead just before half)

  • Michigan 1/11 on 3rd down
  • OSU 19 first downs, UM 13
  • Michigan attempted 15 passes all game ... and lost the TOP battle by nearly 8 minutes

Thanks for the share - this is a cool read.  The story from 1978 on the freezing day in Bo's car makes this worth the read on it's own!

To me, there were 3 items…

To me, there were 3 items BEFORE HALF which sealed the fate of this one:

The second half the defense was porous and the offense was not reliable, but the game should have been close to out of reach two or three separate times.

And they were STILL up 30-14 with 20 mins to go.

  • Corum's dropped TD pass, would have put us up 14-0
  • Next possession - 2 quick first downs to set up a 1st and goal from 4, called back because of holding on Johnson (called after whistle from backjudge).  1st and goal from the 4 at that point would have been HUGE.
  • Overturned strip/sack

My favorite was the NFL Red Zone commentator showing Brady giving his sideline hat to a little kid in the front row and the kid was so happy he was crying

NFL Red Zone guy:  'Certainly a special moment for that little guy.  Of course, he may be crying because Brady is the oldest person to have ever talked him him not named grandpa'

Thanks for taking a look at…

Thanks for taking a look at this - it makes further sense from this standpoint:

<I excluded 2020>

Remove OSU from the table above and November changes to basically match October.  With OSU, combined 40-32, for a .556 win pct.  Remove OSU, 37-17, for a .685 win pct.

It gets more interesting if you assume 2 G5 "gimmes" in Sept, as that changes the math from 68-19 (.781) to 48-19 (.716).

Conclusion:

Michigan gets 2 non con easy wins each year, shits their pants against OSU, and wins just more than two of three everyone else.

I much prefer to enjoy…

I much prefer to enjoy victories than to use wins to feed my concerns.  Your points are not invalid at all.  Beat Wisconsin.

The longer I am a Michigan…

The longer I am a Michigan fan the more I understand why people hate Michigan fans.  When this football team wins, WE SUCK AND NEED TO PASS MORE!!!!.  When they win again the next week (scoring a TD on every possession), the OPPONENT SUCKS.  When we again win, the OFFENSE AND COACHING SUCKS AND ...

Wait, we're 4-0?

9 pass attempts…

^^^^this (replying to Cousin Rick's comment)

9 pass attempts first quarter,
Followed by Corum TD after fake punt (5 play rush) (8min 2q)

And then a 3rd and 2 set up by two rushes negated by the Cornelius Johnson 15 yd penalty (4min 2q)

Then ball back at own 12 w 1min to go in half.  Why risk any INT there?

Then ball back to start 2nd half and the 8 play all run drive broke Washington's backs.

Let's be critical of play-calling after a bad performance.  Or at least wait until the "what happens to a team that stuffs the run" actually, you know, plays out?

Aka stop acting petulant.  Enjoy the win.  Lack of down field passing made sense from a game-flow perspecting but that ruins any said hawt takes.

Strongly recommend Bay Harbor and Forest Dunes.  Lockenheath is really nice too, as other poster mentions.

Acaida is a must play, but it didn't impress me as I'd expected it to...

Random cool story bro:

Playing front side at Acadia, my buddy and I are paired up.  We get talking, one guy is a venture capitalist, the other "invented theinfomercial".  What??? Turns out, he was involved with Shark Tank (was on the show as an investor in season 1), and is worth about $480mm.

Back 9, these two guys want in our betting for snakes and skins, etc.  Except, our "pot" of $10 is too expensive for them.  They want $2 and $3 per snake/skin.  OK, fine.  Well, I own snakes after 15th hole.  These two guys are intentionally missing greens to not pay out.  My buddy holes out from 140 yds on 18, so I'm stuck with snakes.  I owe each guy $18.

I have no cash (was just setting up with buddy end of round), and I'm not gonna ask mr $500mm for his Venmo.  So I tell them I'll go to ATM in clubhouse.  Except, it's out of service.  I come back and explain ... Mr $500mm tells me I should go back into clubhouse, buy a glove or something, use my debit card, overdraw for cash, and settle up.

I guess there's a reason why he's worth that much...

So, 1 of the 4 incoming will…

So, 1 of the 4 incoming will be great, the rest will be OK?  This diary includes statistics and information, but what is the analysis / conclusion?

That, because 4 of 11 (of Michigan top 15 basketball recruits since 2003) got All Big Ten HM / B1G Freshman of the Year / nationwide attention, it follows that at least 1 of the 4 incoming will?

Certainly was not my intent…

Certainly was not my intent.  My point was I'm jaded to Michigan recruiting.  Even the nice things don't every work out for [insert snakebit reason].

Here, something something admissions.

But when we get a Ty Isaac transfer or a Derrick Green signing, or Devin Asiasi, or Kekoa Crawford, or Donovan Peoples-Jones, the most we seem to get is a flash here or there, a high upside but a transfer, or if they play out their scholarship, a good B10 starter who falls short of All American hype.

I'm telling you, this…

I'm telling you, this program is cursed at the WR position

At least the HB position doesn't have hyped recruits not working out or transferring.  Or the TE position.  Or OT.  Or DE.  Or QB.  At least the recruiting at those positions is strong and pans out / doesn't lead to high star recruits transferring or otherwise not living up to recruiting hype.

Stolen from a…

^ THIS.

Stolen from a post just prior to the Minnesota game:

Harbaugh has elevated Michigan to a level that Michigan has always been in, outside of a very select few years.

For example, since 1975 (when Michigan began routinely playing 12+ games in a season) Michigan has won more than 10 games just 4 times. Bo did it once, Moeller didn’t do it, Carr did it twice (including a natty) and Hoke did it once. The fact is, Michigan is routinely a 9-10 win team. Period. It’s who we have always been. Harbaugh has returned us to that level.

Now a couple things have changed now compared to back then. Ohio State has improved leaps and bounds. They’re now a consistent top 5 team. You won’t see them limping into the Big House with a 7-4 record any time soon. The other major difference, is that it’s no longer the Big 2, little 8. Wisconsin and Penn State are now consistently top 20 teams. Minnesota and NW have shown the ability to knock out 10-11 wins here and there. MSU even went through a stretch of success. Point being, you can’t win the Big Ten with 3 losses anymore (something Carr did in every conference title season with the one very obvious exception)

I think it's more complex…

I think it's more complex than that.  First of all, to understand what happened to Killer, you gotta understand who Killer the dog WAS.  Now, Killer was born to a three-legged b***h mother.  And he was always ashamed of this, man. And then right after that, he's adopted by this man: Tito Liebowitz. He's a small-time gunrunner and, uh, rottweiler fight promoter. So he puts Killer into training, next thing you know Killer's GOOD! He is DAMN good! But then, he had the fight of his life. They pit him against his brother Nibbles. And Killer said, "No, man, that's my brother, I can't fight Nibbles!" And he made him fight anyway. And then Killer, Killed Nibbles. And Killer said, "That's it!" And he called off all his fights, and he started doing crack, and he ffffffff-FREAKED OUT. And then in a rage, he collapsed, and his heart... no longer beat. Wow."

HOW IS THIS NOT HALL OF FAME WORTHY?

""We've heard about how many…

""We've heard about how many people have it but not about it's impact on the people who have it."  What?   This seems to be an incredibly ignorant take.

The data on impact to individuals who test positive is ample - please feel free to research in your own time.  The point here was not about the symptoms experienced by individuals who tested positives. The majority of people who contract this virus experience minimal impact to their health.

The danger with this virus is the infection rate

Let me try to explain:  You have it, but don't show symptoms.  You don't even know you have it.  You go about your life, and while doing so, you can infect others.  Let's say you infect 10 people.  None of them experience symptoms, or is hospitalized, or needs medical care.  They each infect 10 people, because, again, no symptoms.  This is the problem - it spreads exponentially, so even statistically small "impact", as you put it, is unacceptable.
