I don't think I ever said I'd want to see Lewis line up and take every offensive snap this year.
I think that if we lose Chesson or Darboh, that would open up an opportunity to see Lewis get 10-20 snaps. He would come in a be the guy to run a fly route, run a reverse, catch a screen, etc. It would be foolish to play Lewis more snaps than a healthy Moe Ways. But I think there is definitely a role where Lewis would be able to help an offense lacking Chesson or Darboh.
Could Ways also play this role? Probably not. I don't think he has the speed or vision of Lewis.
Could Harris also play this role? Yes, I suppose he could if he's healthy.
Could Crawford also play this role? Possibly, but insert concerns about true freshman.

2012: Chesson, Darboh (2/2)
So we're really confident about our current depth? When 5 of our 10 WR recruits between 2012 - 2015 are no longer on the depth chart/with the team/etc.
Dukes medically retired
The remaining 5 haven't avoided their share of adversity. Harris' injuries are well documented. Moe Ways had foot surgery in March. Perry struggled early as a freshman, but shined in the bowl game.
So depth? Not my definition of solid WR depth.
|3 days 20 hours ago||By 2017, we could||
By 2017, we could have:
Perry, Ways, Harris, (and Peppers) all with 15+ catches. Depending on how the season goes, maybe 1 or 2 of Crawford, McDoom with double digit catches.
That would be at least 4, and possibly 6 WR's with experience. Compared to this year, we're looking at 2 (Chesson and Darboh).
I would say we're looking at having better WR depth in 2017 than we are right now.
By 2018, we could have:
Perry, Ways, Harris, Crawford, McDoom, and whoever steps up b/w Mitchell, Johnson, Evans, and possibly DPJ and Nico Collins.
More depth in 2018 compared to 2016.
So without including any 2016 WR's in the discussion, 2017 will have more depth. And without including DPJ or Collins, 2018 would have more depth.
|3 days 21 hours ago||Not necessarily true. With||
Not necessarily true.
With the haul in 2016 (McDoom, Crawford, Mitchell, Johnson, Hawkins) and the possibilites for 2017 (DPJ and Collins), we'd be looking at extremely talented depth, both on the edge and in the slot, come 2017 and 2018.
DPJ and Nico Collins are the types of freshman WR that can make an immediate impact.
Not sure if we have any from the 2016 haul (maybe Crawford).
|3 days 21 hours ago||Let's say Chesson doesn't||
Let's say Chesson doesn't recover 100%, and misses some of the season. Who replaces him on the edge?
Would Ways and Harris split snaps until one outperforms the other?
Who would you all go with to replace Chesson if his injury lingers? How many snaps?
Ways looked good in the limited action we saw from him, and I'd lean towards him over Harris or a true freshman. I'd be willing to give Jourdan Lewis as many (or more) snaps as Peppers, Harris, Crawford, and McDoom.
Also, it's not like Perry came in as a freshman and instantly clicked. It took until the bowl game to finally make an impact.
Now I'm not saying it would take McDoom or Crawford that long to acclimate to the college game, but they are true freshman, and it would be surprising to see one step up and perform at a high level.
|3 days 21 hours ago||Which one is more of a big||
Which one is more of a big play threat?
I think Lewis can blow the top off of the defense, and can be dangerous in screens, flares, reverses, and other tickeries.
I love Perry for his role, but I just see him as a guy who can settle in the holes of a zone, and move the sticks. Nothing wrong with that. Great route runner and excellent hands.
|3 days 22 hours ago||I don't count true freshman||
I don't count true freshman or players with less than 15 career catches as impactful depth. We're very top heavy with our WR's, especially on the edge.
If we lose either one of Darboh or Chesson, we're looking at replacing them with an extremely inexperienced, and less talented replacement.
Perry is a perfect slot guy, but only has 14 career receptions.
Harris is a huge questions mark. Can his body handle a full season? Is he 100% healthy?
Ways is decent, but only has 3 career receptions.
Freshman are freshman, and are prone to freshman mistakes.
Peppers had 26 offensive touches last season. Not sure if he'll see more or less, but with his need on defense, I would guess that number goes down.
So yes, I do believe WR depth is an issue if Darboh or Chesson get hurt. TE depth, on the other hand, is something I'm not worried about at all.
|3 days 22 hours ago||If we suffer any injuries,||
If we suffer any injuries, with our lack of depth at WR, I could see JL playing offense. He's got the speed and vision to be used like Peppers, just outside the tackle box please. I don't want him meeting a 300+lb DL face to face.

56 picks in, and only 4 MSU players?! Disrespect to the highest degree.
BTN believes MSU has 15 of the top 100 players in the B1G.
Players that need to be picked in the next couple rounds:
-Josiah Price- Don't even need to be sarcastic with this dude, because this kid can ball. True redzone threat, great hands, will be #1 passing target for MSU all season.
-Montae Nicholson- LOLz
-Vayante Copeland- Because apparently missing a season due to injury means you'll be #beastmode when you come back.
Players that need to be picked in the next 3-6 rounds:
-Jon Reschke- Because any LB under Coach D is worthy of being drafted.
-Donnie Corley- Because high star players can only have an immediate impact at MSU. Every other teams high star players are overrated. But Corley is legit. As a true freshman. Yes.
-Demetrious Cox- Because not being able to find a position last year is an indicator that he'll be a stud this year. He can play both S and CB, evidently.
-RJ Shelton- Some WR has to help MSU move the chains this year. Their only returning WR should be that guy.
-Kodi Kieler- A year where OL depth isn't strong in the B1G, it only makes sense to take this future NFL'er anytime now.
-Demetrius Cooper- Elite edge rusher. End of story.
-Michael Geiger- Ice in his veins. Can't teach #clutch.

This defense won't miss a beat, and will start the season with three straight shutouts against three very inferior opponents.
|1 week 21 hours ago||In State Recruits||
The depth this year is fantastic, but I think the "winner" of the state will be whoever can grab one or both of the Top 2 of DPJ and AT.
I think it's safe to say DPJ will be a national battle all the way to signing day, so it's not safe to assume he'll stay in state.
AT I think is more likely to go to either Michigan or MSU.
Whoever comes out on top with AT will be the recruiting winner. DPJ will be a national recruiting victory.

The same can be said for Big Mike Onwenu and Devin Asiasi.
I just thought it was interesting that an NFL style QB wasn't even in the Top 5 for excitement level.
Out of those Top 6, which one is most likely to have the best a) college career, b) NFL career?
I think the answer to both is Gary, followed by Onwenu, Peters, Long, Asiasi, Hill, then Hudson.
|1 week 3 days ago||Excitement Level: Only #5||
From a thread shortly after signing day, the question was asked:
"Which recruit, other than Gary, are you most excited to see?
Peters only came in at #5 (actually, #6 since Gary wasn't included in the vote for obvious reasons). Crazy to think there are 5 recruits we are more excited about than an Andrew Luck caliber, #1 draft pick, NFL HOF'er QB.

It's always Summer where I live (humblebrag: HAWAII).
I've got the Hawaii Spartan Trifecta in 24 days, and the Honolulu Marathon in December.
I've been biking 30 miles/week, running 30 miles/week, lifting 6 days/week, fast pitch baseball games three times/week, eating only fish/white meat chicken for dinner the past 3 months, and having zero rest days these past 2 months.
I've lost enough weight my wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. I went from 160lbs to probably 145lbs (I'm 5'10'').
I think I'm one or two weeks away from being in the best shape of my life. I just ran a 5:30 mile, an 17:10 5k, and 58:40 15k. My goal is to run a 4:50 mile and a 16:00 5k. Also, I want to run the Marathon in 3:30:00 or faster.

But Tom Dienhart over at BTN just ranked his Top 10 B1G D-Linemen. Let's just say his Top 10 is very different from our Draftageddon team.
His Top 10, which are included in the Top 10 DL from Draftageddon:
1-McDowell, 2-Smoot, 3-Wormley, 5-Replogle, 7-Glasgow
Those our Draftageddon team either overlooked, or Dienhart is too high on:
4-Jaleel Johnson (Iowa), 6-Tyquan Lewis (OSU), 8-Demetrius Cooper (MSU), 9-Steven Richardson (Minnesota), 10-Roman Braglio (Maryland)
Those our Draftageddon team were higher on than Dienhart:
Hurst, Mone, Hamilton (Rutgers), Charlton, and Hubbard (OSU)

|2 weeks 1 day ago||Those 3 teams are much better this year than last year.||
Except now BYU is returning an experienced QB, Maryland hung wtih MSU last year in East Lansing, losing 24-7 although that was the game Cook went down. And NW is no slouch, returning both their starting QB and RB.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||MSU||
I've been saying this all offseason. MSU has a very very tough schedule, and it doesn't set up nicely for breaking in so many new players.
Weeks 2-7 for MSU are all pretty much 50/50 or MSU as the underdog.
@ND, Wisconsin, @IU, BYU, NW, @ Maryland, Michigan.
That's brutal. Especially when you consider they are breaking in a new QB, only return 1 WR and their TE, 2 new OL, and no depth on the DL or secondary, plus replacing 2 of their 3 best players from last years D.
I can honestly see them losing @ND, Wisconsin (they return an excellent OL and RB), @IU, BYU, and Michigan. They could start the season 3-5. With OSU and PSU closing out the end of their schedule, and they could realistically finish 5-7 or 6-6. I think 7-5 or 8-4 would be best case scenario.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Their WR group is a giant question mark||
They return 5'11'' RJ Shelton as their number 1 WR. Josiah Price is an excellent receiving TE. After that, its a giant ???
Chambers and Corley are talented, but are True Fr.
They lost Burbridge, Kings Jr, Lang, and Arnett.
That's 142 receptions (out of 244), 2012 yards (out of 3279), and 14 TD's (of the 26 thrown).
