- John Beilein exemplifies class. When Irvin got called for a very questionable call his 'working' the refs consisted of him calling them by name and not swearing. "Tom, he never travels and if he did why would he do it there? There's no reason to travel in that situation." The PSU coach was a volcano of F-bombs almost from the start of the game. When I mentioned that JB worked the refs properly to my wife the people in front of us said their kids don't like hearing Chambers swear all the time.
- The coaches are teaching basketball fundamentals to players that should know them by now. Lots of time Bacari and JB would be yelling at the whole team, Doyle in particular, to get their hands up. In zone when they played 2-3 and 1-3-1, JB emphatically kept yelling "Touch the Ball" to get them up on the player they were guarding in the zone.
- The offense struggles because several of the players don't know the plays or how to execute at speed. Aubrey Dawkins was the clearest example. JB yelled to Spike, "You 4 have to help Aubrey out there". Dawkins was frequently out of position to receive the ball or with the ball didn't know what to do. Spike or Walton would have to break off the set and go out to receive the ball from him. When 1 or 2 players on the floor don't or can't run the offense it looks disjointed and that's what we've seen this season.
- Walton is playing tentative on offense. I don't know if it's because of how disjointed they are but the coaches singled him out. "Quit swinging the ball. If the play is designed for you to take the shot you need to take it"
- There is zero inside game offensively. It may be related to not being able to run offense at speed and it not being as obvious for a Big as it is a guard. PSU didn't have to respect the inside game very much so they could come out and contest the jumpshots.
- DJ Wilson is the tallest player on the team. Is he hurt or just redshirting?
- Chatman doesn't look as bad in person as on TV. I think he has the same problems as Dawkins but his skill set makes them more glaringly obvious.
|1 day 13 hours ago||That's his job||
A guy at work kept on me until I commented today. I really don't care about NFL so I don't have a horse in this race.
I explained that a long time ago I wanted to be a team engineer on a race team. As part of that profession it is the engineer's job to know what is and is not specified in the rules and how to work within them while getting bloody close to the edge.
I can very easily believe that TB prefers to throw low pressure ball. If the spec is 12.5 to 13.5 or something like that, the job of those assistants is to make sure the balls are certified at 12.5 not 12.6 or 12.4 but EXACTLY 12.5 full well knowing that once they are in the cold the pressure will drop. It's not rocket science.
In racing, the teams that win week in and week out are the ones that are the most prepared just like in sports. If shaving 3 threads off a bolt will cut laptime someone is going to do it.
Without a doubt the Patriots are one of the most prepared teams in the NFL. I'm not a fan and even I know that. I'm sure very little is left up to chance and someone is well aware of all the rules and how to walk right up to the edge of them. How else could that team keep winning at the standard they set with Tom Brady and a bunch of wierd guys?

Chatman cost that game last night. He was so out of position on an open 3 near the end of regulation he wasn't even on the same side of the floor as the shooter. In OT, silly meaningless foul put them at the line for 2 points. Margin of error was too small for things like that.
Give JB credit, he immediately pulled him off the court and made a sub.
Rock is gonna be a star!

With Isaac already in the fold I don't think this is as much of a hit as it would otherwise be.

MGoFeed on Twitter is the most useful tool I've found. Have updates sent to your phone via text. Any new thread on here is a clickable text. No need to F5 or keep checking here unless it's something you need to read.
I started using the tool during the coaching search and didn't turn it off. I'd guess4-6 texts an hour unless things are happening then more. It also made me appreciate the work the Mods do to clear the clutter since every new thread shows up on the feed but a good deal are gone before I log on.

There was a game last season when Gardner was just pitiful bad. Morris was warming up on the sidelines and looked ready to go in next series. The game was not in doubt. Next series Gardner goes in and Morris sits.
Post game presser..."Well ya know, Devin practiced hard all week and we wanted to give him the chance, as a Senior, to finish the game"
It wasn't about who gave them the better opportunity to come back or get Morris live reps.

The reason schools like Alabama and Oklahoma were so strong back in the day was because there was no limit. Switzer still jokes about having 3 Heisman-quality running backs on scholarship just so Texas couldn't get any of them.
If that happens St Sabans medical center closes and they sign 50 kids every year. Same with the rest of the SEC.

If a kid starts the math progression in 8th grade their choice would be calculus in 12th or an elective. There's no need for non-science majors to take Calculus before college. Most colleges start science majors at the pre-calculus level anyway.

I don,'t have problems with front row or first row, whichever it's called. I have adaware and adblock and stream it to my TV via chromecast. I watch UFC mostly with that.
I recently bought 2 of the Amazon FireTV sticks and they are fantastic! ESPN looks as good on the kitchen tv as it does over satellite. There is no official B10 app yet, but you can side load any android app. The only problem is if yuou need a touchscreen to control it but a $20 wireless keyboard gets around that if you Google a how-to.
The only thing you'd still be lacking is the login info but I'm sure a friend could hook you up with that.
|6 days 20 hours ago||Look out, they're getting better!||
When I saw this team live a few weeks ago the thing that had me dumbfounded was that some of the players obviously didn't know the plays yet. Dawkins stood out the most for being out of position or confused about what to do. The coaches even told the veterans they had to help.
I didn't get to watch last night's game yet since I was at my son's game. But, this last weekend I saw visible improvement in both Dawkins and Rock. I don't know if JB has shrunk the playbook or it has just taken this long but something is happening with the young guys.
Looking back on previous seasons I think it happened right around now as well for the young guys. Caris wasn't an immediate player and had to burn his redshirt, for example. I think it's probably too late for the NCAA but the NIT is within reach. Unless we run into a situation like a few years ago except Turner* doesn't make the half court shot this time.
*Obviously it wouldn't be Turner since he's long gone.
|1 week 20 hours ago||They've always been delusional||
I live here and have always disliked the cult of personality that was Penn State football. I begrudgingly had respect for them because they never cheated.
My uncle got his undergrad at Penn State and MS from Michigan. I remember visiting him at Michigan when I was very young and I was hooked. My parents' ugly divorce prevented me from having the $$ to attend Michigan but that is where my heart remained. My father drives a 58 corvette that was my college money and I have a degree from PSU. Strange how that worked out.
Anyway, I am willing to let the legal system run its course and hope that the individuals responsible get a truly deserved punishment. What I do find locally is that the lunatic fringe who is obsessed with JoePa is mostly the 60+ demographic. Younger fans just don't seem to care about the JoePa records and want to put it in the past. To them that era is gone.
I understand a strong PSU is good for the BigTen. I'll never be a fan but I do find myself not hating them any longer. I'm ready to go back to Michigan whipping their ass regularly. They were 2-10 when I graduated and I loved wearing my swag.

Zero chance this doesn't devolve into politics.
|1 week 2 days ago||Would be a great commercial||
I'd like to see the Big Ten run something congratulating both of them on making it to the biggest stage. They could run it on Sports Center until the SB. It would certainly be a boost to recruiting and a step to counter SEC bias.
|1 week 2 days ago||Farley||
Farley in the gay Budweiser commercial set to VanHalen's Pretty Girls would have to be in my top 5. Most anything Farley but maybe it's just because that's when I watched it.
|1 week 2 days ago||Transfer||
DJ Wilson is the one that I think may transfer. Lots of west coast offers before he committed to Michigan.
|1 week 2 days ago||I was impressed||
Rock, that's the coaches called him on the floor, seem to be getting a good command of the offense. I only noticed a few times that the coaches or other starters needed to direct him. More importantly, he played adequate defense and was disruptive in the 1-3-1.
When Dawkins gets a better grasp we will actually have depth again.
On a downer, Donnal is softer than a fluffy pillow. I think at this point Max contributes more with his time on the floor and 5 fouls.

Addendum: Used primarily to deny the ball to the one player being guarded man2man.
As someone who has coached and is considering it again I would not want my kids playing for this d-bag. The chances of going pro are so slim its not worth contemplating. Teach them more than basketball and you make them men (or women).
|2 weeks 21 min ago||Next Big Thing||
Soccer has been the next big thing since I was a kid in the 70's. I saw a study that the majority of soccer ratings on TV are coming from a growing immigrant population rather than increased popularity among those born in the US.
I am seeing Lacrosse catching on here as it spreads out from New England. I think it's played on the same field as soccer so it fits multi use facilities.
|2 weeks 36 min ago||Lack of inside game||
Everyone knows there is no threat inside and it doesn't require double teams or special planning to shut it down. Defensively teams can focus on the shooters now and there is no longer open 3-bombs like previous years.
|2 weeks 40 min ago||Leadership||
Who is the leader on this team? I don't see one and without a leader to challenge his peers in a way that the coaches cannot the team will continue to flounder.
Novak, Burke, Stauskas, now ...? All JB's teams with the exception of the Manny teams had a leader and outperformed expectations.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||This is next year's team||
This team wan't supposed to be on the floor until next year. Excuses-excuses but it is reality. NIT or bust at this point.
For the 1st time in a few years, we are not good at basketball either. We've all clung to basketball since football has been down and now that basketball is down we have...
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||Leadership||
If there was any on the team you wouldn't see this.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||Pride||
This team does not want, nor does it deserve, to win. Uninspired play at best. If it gets to 20 it's time to clear the bench and force the starters to watch an ass whooping from the pine.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I hope it does not happen||
Unfortunately as acknowledged by FOIA the NCAA had no jurisdiction in the matter and was looking to stay ahead of some very bad press. This affair will be no different than Bonds having the home run title. There will always be a well deserved asterisk if the wins are restored.

instead of a runner up. Good for the BigTen too.
But I'll be strongly pulling for the Ducks. My wife is an Oregon fan which is a bonus. I want to see another Urbz pizza pic after the game.

|2 weeks 6 days ago||Location||
Since it is geographically in the middle of the state it's supposed to serve for anyone that doesn't want to drive to Pittsburgh or Philadelphia for an event. It's really a horrible arena. The sound for concerts is terrible and the atmosphere for sports is more like a funeral home. To give you an idea how big it is, when my son was really young I took him to see monster trucks there because little boys LOVE monster trucks.
I go there occasionally not to see PSU but whomever they are playing. We go to more basketball games at Bucknell which has an arena that is pretty much the same as the lower bowl of the BJC without the upper deck and is mostly sold out for all games. Of course, the product on the court is generally better too.
They wanted a big shiny arena and the got one. It's just not good for very much.

This is the first I've seen Michigan Basketball in person in a few years. These are the things that stood out...
I think all of the struggles this season are because of the youth (duh!). They will get better as the season goes on but this is an NIT team this season. I think they should make a huge leap next year as I don't think the draft is going to clean the roster after the season.
*My son's team beat their league rivals 60-35 last night. Had to mention that since he couldn't come with us.
