The NBA is trash.

I haven't watched in about 10 years.  About 1 time a year i'll come across a game and watch for about 3-5 mins and I am imediatly reminded why I don't waste my time on it.  It really is a shame since I love basketball.  Lack of effort on 90% of the plays, rules that make watching unbearable, the complete lack of any real stratagy, crying, whining, officiating that makes zero sense...  It is complete trash.

Profit?

To say that Universities massively profit isn't very accurate.  Do they have a lot of cash flow? Yes.  Do they have a few very well paid employee's? Again, yes.  But, as departments, the median school loses 11.6 million dollars a year.

Turf slipping?

I don't buy that grass is a limiting factor for athletes.  If it was a majority of outdoor NFL stadiums would not have natural grass fields.

Aesthetics?

It's strange to me that so many here  are concerned about the aesthetics of the field.  I get the endzone markings or the block M at the 50 comments as they do not affect important things, such as performance. Aesthetics should be the very last concern about the turf (acknowledging that they are never going to install a non green field).

I think you are making their point.

If the game is not enjoyable without gambiling or a side intrest in certian players then by definition it is an inferior product.

Suprised

Wow, Miller looked aweful.  I'm suprised they even let him walk anywhere, usually that is something they bring the cart onto the field for.

P.S. this guy shouldn't be speculating on his injury.

I am not so interested in

I am not so interested in the lower bowls.  The big bowls have decreased in meaning tremendously since the BCS began.   But I do agree that the amount of bowls is outrageous.

As for as finding out who the absolute best team is, I would argue that a playoff system is a pretty piss poor way to do that.  It basically awards the hot team at the end who gets in, and completely ignores everything that leads up to that.  Just look at the recent "champions" in sports.  The Giants, L.A. Kings, St. Louis Cardinals... None of those teams were the absolute best teams.  They got hot at the end and got some favorable match-ups.  A playoff doesn't always crown the best team, and often does not.  I would even argue that voting after the bowls gives you a champion that has earned it over the course of the entire season, and is a truer champion than a playoff winner.

All and all, I think we are throwing away far too much for a system that doesn’t really do a better job of crowing a champion.

begining of the end...

This may not be the first step, but it is definitely the one that begins the decline of my interest in college football as a whole.  This is a big screw you to the Big Ten.  This isn't any more fair than what we have had and I would argue that it is actually more unfair to any Northern/Midwest school.  Playoffs are going to kill college football, in the same way that the BCS killed the greatness of the bowls.  This will also finish off one of the great things about college football, that being the regionality of the conferences as we "have to" move to four super conferences to further the playoff concept.  Further destroying the tradition of the game for a system that is no better than what we currently have or what we have had in the past.  This has been a day that I have been mourning for a long time.

Who Cares!!!!!

If I wanted news on them I would go to their message boards.  Please stop posting about them.

Too Bad

Just saying.

Oversaturated

The south is oversaturated with bowl games.  It's a big reason that they don't sell out a lot of the smaller bowls.  Having one or two Major Bowls in the North would sell locally especially since Big Ten teams would have a much shorter commute.  A shorter commute would likely mean larger groups of fans traveling to the games.

Weather?

I am not saying that a bowl in AA is a possibility but I hate the "it's too cold in January" line.  We have become way too pampered.  Heaven forbid that a big sporting event would be held in less than "ideal" conditions.  The winter classic seems to do well as an outdoor event.  The "Big Chill" seemed to be a successful event.  I beleive that those games are held in cold weather.  I can't wait for the New York Super Bowl.  It is probably the only SB in my lifetime that I would want to go to (outside of SB34 that my team played in).  I am praying it is played in snow.

Push games into December?

Isn't that what is already happening?  Army v. Navy was played on December 10th.  Not to mention it was played in Washingtion D.C. which I beileve would be considered a cold climate.  The Pac 12 Championship game was played in Eugene, OR on Dec 2.

The reason College football is a "fall sport" has much more to do with how the game started 100+ years ago and the length of the season than the weather.

I would like Michigans chances in the cold much more than any SEC or Big 12 teams.

We don't have a natural grass

We don't have a natural grass surface. FieldTurf is layed on concrete.  Frozen concrete isn't harder than warm concrete, or at least at any measurable level.   Sand and rubber which give the FieldTurf is "cushion" would be harder but I believe that New Yorks new stadium has FieldTurf and that seems to work just fine.  "IF" a major bowl were to come to AA I'm sure that they would make more than enough money to install the heating coils if it was needed.

They are bad. In four years we can assume 85 scholarship players should graduate. At 67% that means 28 kids don't graduate. If you want to assume that it's b/c kids are leaving early then you should only count those who leave after their junior year which is not that big of a number. I am embarrassed at UM's number. That is not high enough.

intent

Is the intent of the punch any different?

How is this punch different than L. Blount

Obviously one occured during the game and one happened after.  But a punch is a punch.  Right?  If you add Gholstons other attempts to purposly injure players with dirty plays shouldn't his punishment be more than the one or two games that most are calling for.  Not that he will get that.  Just curious why the consensus for Blount was "throw him out of football",  while it seems like people would be content with a one game suspension.  I know that mouton got a game (should have been more imo) but that was before the Blount incident.

Int yesterday was V. Smiths fault. So stop pinning that on Denard, and from what I saw yesterday Devin is no where near ready to play more than he already does. Watching him run around like he was playing pop Warner football should be enough evidence that he just isn't ready. He seemed lost.

I liked them.

I attually liked them alot.  I am usually an old man complaigning about all the new uniform talk.  But those were nice.  I think i prefer them to the regular "uninspired" road unis we have seen in recent years.

Sorry

Double post.

Did we decide on DoD?

I prefer the Fritz formation... It harkens back to a time when MANBALL was all there was.

Although White kept catching passes, he was getting pounded almost every time. On his last catch he were T. Gordan put him in the ground he seemed pretty slow getting up. That fact that they were flying to the ball and punishing guys was great to see and I believe would have shown better results if the game had continued. They were great about having two, three, four... Eight guys around the ball on almost every tackle.

Safety blitzes are very common.

Not sure why you are more worried about safety blitzes, since even great safeties and corners blitz. ( like woodsen in green bay)

Fact is...

Fact is that I never gave a position on same sex marriage.  You might want to back up and acctually read what was written.  You were so quick to label me that you didn't make any effort to understand what was said.  You don't know what I think other than the short blurb I wrote, so you might want to back off the " you think they are not your equal" since you don't know that.  But thanks for proving the point of how people are demonized.

Not sure where you got

Not sure where you got bleeding heart from, unless your reading your predisposition into the comments.  There are legitimate bigots who are for same sex marraige as well, I have meet them but their existence isn't the baseline that I associtate with pro same sex-marriage people.  However the same cannot be said for a majority of those who support same sex marriage.   Seperation of Church and State is one of those things that people use to lump anything that can be assotiated with religion that they don't like into so they can dismiss it. SOCAS isn't this magical clause that you can waive to dismiss any religous thoughts.  Because someone gains their morality and beliefs from a religious system dosn't mean that those morals and beliefs are less legitamate than others just because they are religous in nature.   If you haven't  come across any thoughtful and insightful comment aginst same-sex marraige you might want to widen your search, my guess is that like most people you tend to only assoiate with like minded people and go to web sites that share your point of view.

Not sure how this is courageous?

The media is going to rail against him, and he is no longer in the locker room so what is he really risking?  There is far more intolerance of anti same-sex marriage comments from public figures.  Even on the board there are very few comments against it than for it and it's not because that there are less people who are against it than for it.  It's because anyone who speaks against it is labeled a bigot or hate-monger regardless of how thoughtful or insightful the comment is.  It's the height of hypocrisy to be so intolerant of those who disagree with you while you preach to them that they have to be tolerant and unquestioning of your views and opinions.  So I don't think it was courageous of him, although it may have been good hearted whether you agree with him or not.

Absurd and smart?

I agree that it is an absurd idea that the best DL from a decade never played a down in the conference.  On the other hand it shows how commited the B1G is to making Nebraska fell at home, and gives their fans reason to watch the B1G Network.  And if/when they decide to add more teams to the conference, they can use this as a bargining chip to show that the new teams would be given the royal treatment.  It is the B1G way to share the limelight and the money.  It could be argued that this is a very calculated move (not just this instance, but all of things the B1G has done to make N feel at home and equal) designed to garner more intrest from teams that they deem to be a good fit.  Here's looking at you ND.

Competition

Sports is about competition not entertainment.

They were not as impressive

They were not as impressive week in and week out as Auburn and Oregon.

So your formula has M playing

So your formula has M playing road games for the first two rounds?   If you are going to rebuild the system you have to do better than that.

everyone has a chance every

everyone has a chance every week to prove they belong.

The football champion is not

The football champion is not awarded by computers.  You still have to win on the field.  Both have flaws and that is why we shouldn't mess with what makes the regular season of college football the best of any sport.  And why exactly is the bowl system an "outdated POS"?  And are you really satisfied that 25 percent of the time the best teams not winning the tourny?  You could argue that the BCS has a better rate of success than that.

Of course they are a part of

Of course they are a part of the game. If you have a system that can elliminate the chances for injury is that not prefrable.

So the regular season does

So the regular season does not matter?
