yes I definitely believe there is intelligent life beyond earth.
|4 days 23 hours ago||Buffalo||
Buffalo is a rustbelt town. not a ton of natural beauty. Two teams. No success. Worst town for pro sports.
|5 days 10 hours ago||totally agree||
I think that where good teams become great is in assessing boom or bust guys. You have to roll the dice, and take a chance on someone who could be a lights-out star. Sometimes you miss, but when you strike gold, it can make the difference between a good team, and a team that beats Ohio State and wins the national championship.
|6 days 10 hours ago||One caveat||
There is one caveat I would give. If I was looking at where to go, and Michigan had a freshman who just completed a very successful year at QB, I'd think, do I want to go there? We always hear that the best kids aren't afraid of competition. Which is true. But if I saw that I was probably going to redshirt the next year (behind said freshman), and quite possibly be on the bench the next two after that, I'd think long and hard about whether or not I wanted to do that. Say, for instance, that Peters beats everyone out, and has a stellar year. Do I still want to come to Michigan? Maybe not. In this case, McCaffrey is going to come regardless. But if and when Harbaugh finds "his guy," that may change the dynamic for HS QB's looking at where they want to go.

nurse? iirc, close to impossible at Michigan with afternoon schedule sophomore year? maybe a redshirt in that year? But with Harbaugh they will try to make it happen.
|1 week 5 hours ago||Other post was totally different||
The other post was about how Michigan football fans reconcile being football fans with being against their child's personal involvement. And FTR, I am not raising that question in the least.
This is the first time (in 8 years of playing football) that we've really looked at the question. Yes, it is an issue. We'll have to just see. I do think there are a lot of bright people on this website, and I was sure there would be links to some good information (which there was). At this point, I don't have data that is conclusive either way.
I get the "self-confirming bias" thing. But I am really trying to look at this with an open mind, and work together with my wife and son to come to the right decision.
|1 week 7 hours ago||Excellent!||
Normally, I smirk at the "posbang" stuff. But I'd gladly give you most of my points for this link. Exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Scary, but helpful. Thanks much.
|1 week 7 hours ago||Umm, I'm trying to do what is best for my kid||
Umm, I'm trying to do what is best for my kid. That's why I asked the question. I tend to think football is fine. My wife has significant doubt. So I'm just trying to find pros and cons in terms of information and studies that are out there. This is one area I don't want to just go with a "gut feeling."
|1 week 7 hours ago||Never heard of PubMed||
I never heard of PubMed. Just googled it. Glad to look there for articles on CTE, concussion, as regards HS football.
Thank you . . . not my field of expertise.
|1 week 22 hours ago||Pertains to NFL||
I think the studies are pretty conclusive that repetitive vicious hits to the head are not good for the brain. I would argue that there is a vast difference between the NFL and HS football. But looking for more substantive proof.
|1 week 3 days ago||I think they all handled it well||
I think they all handled it well. I would be fine if Harbaugh largely did the same thing.
|1 week 3 days ago||Son of David Robinson||
Corey is the son of David Robinson (I included that in my post, and it was also in the Chicago Tribune article).
|1 week 3 days ago||Asked to Gray Shirt||
Sibley was asked to gray shirt. OSU has an extremely, extremely highly rated class, and quite a few top 100 guys who want to buy in. One of their problems is they don't have a big class, and they're struggling to fit everyone in who wants to be there. So Sibley was asked to postpone his scholarship a bit. At least Meyer gave him lots of notice . . . it was easy for Sibley to land somewhere else.
|1 week 5 days ago||Variety||
Variety is the spice of life. I am fine with noon starts, and with 3:30pm games, and with night games.
I personally like noon games because
I personally like 3:30 games because
I personally like evening games because
What I personally don't get is the people who bitch and moan because their personal preference isn't met. I especially don't get those who complain about not having enough time to drink. I don't care how bombed other people get. It's a free country. But kvetching about a start time because they don't have enough time to "party" and "get wasted" before the game? Get a life.
|1 week 5 days ago||Obviously many reasons||
Obviously, there were many reasons for Michigan's demise, including those mentioned above. I am not a stats guy, but I think the ones to ask on this question would be Seth, Brian, WD, and others who track this. I do believe that the issue with RR was that he didn't recruit enough of them. I just think you need to recruit 3 - 5 solid guys on the OL year in and year out, and we didn't have that. You can blame our secondary, our wonderful QB who wasn't the best passer, and a number of other things. I would include among those things not having enough quality offensive linemen.
|1 week 5 days ago||Great news||
This is great news. We've known Bredeson is good for a long time. What so many fans fail to see is how critical line play is on both sides of the ball. When RR changed the emphasis on the OL, Michigan cratered. Having a stable full of strong OL guys is essential to the future success of the team. We have bemoaned our lack of star RB's. The issue is more one of the lack of star OL. And this is one group where you've got to have five solid guys. When you have five solid OL guys, it changes the whole offense. We need more of these.
|1 week 6 days ago||First world problems||
I'm jealous of you . . . not in a bad way, but criminy, this kid is golden. What are you worried about? More than that: I trust he'll get in, but I think it is a mistake to have your heart so set on something that ANYTHING else is a disappointment. Just my 2 cents.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||So many places||
I really won't pick, can't pick. What I'll say is that beauty is everywhere, if you have eyes to see it. I've been fortunate to see and experience all the following, and too many more to mention.
I hope I always have eyes to see and appreciate the beautiful world we live in. It is great to have a sense of awe and wonder at every day.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Goes with the territory||
You have to deal with guys who are habitual downvoters. Goes with the territory. Remember a couple rules about points.
Sometimes WD has good stuff, sometimes, he cares too much about being "first," etc. When guys try to be "first," I'm always reminded of this scene from the movie "Colors."
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Was thinking of England||
When you said "UK," I was thinking, since when do bball players transfer from England? Do they even play bball at Oxford and Cambridge? Am I stupid or what?
Regardless, I'd love to see some 5 star talent come Michigan's way.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Actually, no||
A bunghole is a term used historically with a keg of liquid, often beer. From Wikipedia:
The slang use of "bunghole" was particularly popularized by Beevis and Butthead.
The more you know . . .
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Probably not||
There definitely is a huge gene aspect to this. Interestingly, my mother competed colliegiately, but that was back in the early 50's, and the world was different. (Prior to D-1). To the best of my knowledge, she didn't pass on excessive athletic genes.
We adopted twins, who are more athletic than we are. I still am very skeptical of D-1 talent in either of them. However, our daughter made the Varsity Soccer team as a Freshman, which seems pretty good. Our son loves football, and is still growing. But the reality is that if he is to do anything, it is in baseball . . . being a natural lefty with a strong arm, he has "potential" to pitch.
I really think that the genes obviously favor particular sports or positions.
The reality for me is that I don't pine for my kids to play D-1 sports. There are lots more important things in life.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||You need to have prior contact||
In my job, I have regular contact with maybe 20 - 30 kids. I really try to be pretty careful with boundaries on Social Media. I don't want to be too chatty . . . although you kind of need to respond in kind to their communication. If you think of Harbaugh, he has had some pretty interesting communication with some prospects. Edgier than many coaches.
The thing is, I don't think I would EVER initiate contact with someone who I didn't already have contact with. It just is a boundary line I don't want to cross. Contacting prospects is just plain creepy to me.
I also think that Internet Anonymity is a scourge. So many people wouldn't even think of doing stuff if they knew that it was being directly linked to who they are. I'm not a big fan of anonymous communication. It leads to trolling, very inappropriate posts, a lack of accountability, all kinds of bad things.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||I concur||
Having 15 year old twins, their decision making is challenged. Including on Social Media. My 23 year old has improved, but still isn't all the way there yet.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Send this guy to Peru instead of Bolivia||
Lima, Peru, that is, instead of Bolivia.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Holiness doesn't matter||
Holiness has nothing to do with it. Not contacting recruits unless you have a preexisting relationship (teammate, family member, etc.) is all that matters.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I actually didn't track it down||
I actually didn't track the guy's name down. I'm probably not internet savvy enough to do that. Someone over at Eleven Warriors apparently knows the guy and posted his name.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Is your title line misspelled purposely?||
Because, embarrassed could be misspelled purposely as a snarky way to comment on guys like Chris Grant, aka "Wayne Bateman." The whole "moran" and "Staee" thing.
I am old enough that sometimes snark and sarcasm go right past me. I hope you meant to do this. Because, if you didn't, this is the height of irony.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||I absolutely hate idiot fans||
This is totally irritating. Only thing I'll say is people in glass houses . . .
|3 weeks 4 days ago||Very glad to hear that||
Obviously, he took some kind of beatdown, because he removed his twitter account. SMH, rolling my eyes, this is ludicrous. Total facepalm moment. Hope DPJ realizes that idiot fans exist in every fanbase. All I'll say is that Michigan isn't immune from having total idiot fans out there.
