I recently taught my 9 year-old son how to play air guitar to One. Ah, the joys of fatherhood.

The two cellos version of Thunderstruck has 16 million views in just a month.

I watched two minutes of their spring game. A cheerleader was calling the plays. It was a wow moment. And yes, she did a better job than Borges.

I hope his outside shooting improves, otherwise, he reminds me of a shorter Blake McLimans.

shouldn't the Horford fathead also be blacked out of that photo?

Seth opened the box. I'm far more interested in the differing opinions within the MGoHierarchy alluded to by Seth.

Magnus has more MGoPoints than Ace. He's third among active users, and first among non-site affiliated people (Brian, Seth, Ace, Brandon.) I have love for Ace, but Mount Rushmore is for Presidents, not Vice Presidents, or something like that.

Brian, because it's his site
Misopogon, but not Seth
TomVH, because he held us
That fourth spot is up for grabs, but I'm going with Magnus as the representative of all the MGoUsers. Had Heiko spurned the medical millions, he would have been a no-brainer.

it means Nik is coming back! Just kidding, but if Mitch and GR3 come back OR Nik comes back, we're a top 10 team.

There were two reports from the sideline reporter that stuck with me. First, she said during one huddle, Calipari told Harrison to drive more and shoot less. That is the exact same advice I gave the fourth graders I coached this year. Second, she said Calipari scolded Harrison about his body language, and two minutes later they show Calipari on the sideline whining for a call.

I thought the part about going to Europe for a few years and returning to the states to become a coach was funny.

Lived on my floor in West Quad one year. He spent a lot, and I mean A LOT, of time playing video games.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Fisher / Frieder||
I went to UofM's summer basketball camp in 1985 when I was 15 years old. Frieder was the head coach at the time, but he mostly sat back and watched everything. He glad-handed the better players and made sure he was the one to introduce Gary Grant to the campers. Fisher, as the assistant coach, demonstrated all the drills. I'm sure it's that way at almost all basketball camps, but I also went to State's summer camp when Heathcote was the head coach, and Jud was out there on the court demonstrating how to shoot a jump shot. Frieder's teams were a lot like that Kentucky unit we just saw - lots of individual talent, not much teamwork or team concepts on display. I still remember Fisher demonstrating how to play post defense at that camp, and I see his guys play that way even today. His offense was also not up to par with Beilein's, but I think Fisher is an underrated defensive coach. If you are ranking coaches, I think you give points to guys who do more with less. So I put Beilein first, Fisher second, and Frieder third, just considering those three. Orr was a tad before my time, but he probably would slot between Beilein and Fisher.

True story, I went to grad school at UofM with a guy from Kentucky. He got his Ph.D. and accepted a faculty position at UK, thinking it would be nice to move back home and live near his family. The students were so awful he left UK. He said they could barely write coherent sentences and he was spending most of his time correcting their English. He became a professor at MSU. He told me the quality of students at MSU was better than at Kentucky. Imagine that, some folks are even dumber than spartans.

Was it 6:37AM? That would explain why they both have bed head.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Salaries||
The law deals with salaries:
Executive, administrative, professional and outside sales employees: (as defined in Department of Labor regulations) and who are paid on a salary basis are exempt from both the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the FLSA.
But those are still wages. I can go buy whatever I want with money. I can't do that with my scholarship. If they change the system to say, here's X thousand dollars, now pay for your tuition with it, OK, that's reasonable. What they are doing instead is providing you with a benefit in lieu of a wage. It's akin to claiming that health insurance or retirement benefits are part of your total compensation and can sum up to the minimum wage. I've never heard of any company trying that.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||that's not an hourly wage||
A scholarship is not an hourly wage. Maybe the NCAA and Congress will rewrite some laws to try to maintain the status quo, but as is, I think the Northwestern players who filed the suit can now rightly demand that they be paid, in actual dollars.

Has anyone checked to see if he's using that media blog that Seth set up for him? His banhammering might be just the push he needs to start his own Blog-Empire.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||minimum wage||
I found this at the department of labor website
It's pretty clear they have to be paid. I don't think scholarships count. Exceptions are made for tips for waitresses, but that's still monetary compensation. If they are paid, they are no longer amateurs. The NCAA and/or Congress is going to have to deal with this.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||meet the definition of employees||
If the players, "meet the definition of employees," won't they have to be paid under federal minimum wage laws? And if they are paid, they are no longer "amateur athletes," meaning they are no longer eligible to play NCAA football. Frankly, I could see Northwestern deciding to go the way of the University of Chicago and the Ivies.
Pandora's box has been opened. College football 10 years from now is going to be vastly different.

|3 weeks 5 days ago||The Misopogon Reborn||
I started reading The Wheel of Time in grad school because my friend had the first five books in the series, and hey, "free books." Anyway, I got hooked and spent the next 15 years reading the series and waiting for the next one to come out and dealing with the fact that an 8 book series turned into 13 or thereabouts. I lost track after awhile.
When you wrote about Saldaea, Tear, and Cairhien, my first thought was, hey, those aren't from the Game of Thrones. Where do I know those names from? Oh, yeah, the Dragon Reborn. So now that that series is done, is there any chance they will make an HBO-style TV series out of the books? Just please not on Showtime because I don't subscribe to that channel.

Please see comments #57 and #62 in the Lewan thread in which a certain user writes, "Oh go fuck yourself you stupid whining asshole," and, "And fuck yourself again, for good measure." What does it take for that user to get the banhammer? He's recently back from Bolivia and apparently didn't learn a thing from the trip.
