"Winning this type of game for UM would be a boon for the 2015 season and could be the difference between 7-8 wins and 9-10."
How is this one game potentially worth two wins? (7 going to 9 or 8 going to 10?) Serious question, because it's our second to last game. If we beat PSU, are you suggesting that gives us positive momentum whereby we beat the Buckeyes?

ESPN has already gotten rid of Simmons and Cowherd this year for being too opinionated. I hope that Smith and especially Skip follow them out the door.
|5 hours 6 min ago||Two ways to teach||
I'd add that there are also two ways to teach - do as I say, and do as I do. Borges, having never played the position to my knowledge fits the former, Harbaugh the latter.
My son was having trouble throwing strikes the other day in his little league game. I never pitched, but I've watched some pitching coaches work and picked up a few things. So I tried to give the boy some pointers, but I was basically lost. The catcher, who also pitches, said to my son, "you've got to use your hips." Sure enough, that was the issue. He started turning more, getting better follow through, and he started throwing strikes. I'm humble enough to admit when I've been out-coached by an 11 year old. And the difference is that he learned how to pitch by pitching, while I just watched. (Sadly, in this analogy, I'm Borges.)

Reminds me of Phil Jackson's unwillingness to call timeouts. His philosophy is that the players will figure it out, evetually, and they'll be better off for that learning experience.
Where does Nussmeier fit on this learning spectrum? Seems like he wasn't here long enough for us to figure him out.

looked up "boxscore" and all my old boxscore diary links popped up. The MGoBlue.com website doesn't have the old boxscores in a prominent location, so it's a good thing (for me, at least, and everybody who cares about old boxscores) that I have links through this site.

I don't believe they've had Wrestlemania 150 yet.
|1 day 7 hours ago||ST plays||
Out of curiosity, I counted up the number of special teams plays in last season's M-Maryland game. Michigan had 59 offensive plays, Maryland had 69 offensive plays, and there were 26 ST plays total (punts, kickoffs, FGs, extra points.) That's about 17%, or 1/6 of the total number of plays. I'm sure that varies considerably from game to game, but I'd guess it's closer to 1/6 than 1/3 over the course of a typical season.
EDIT: OSU game - 29 ST plays out of 163 for 17.8%. Granted, 10 of those were XPs which should be automatic, but they are "scoring plays" so they are still important.
EDIT2: MOON game - 23 ST plays out of 166, or 13.9%. I thought that would have more with all the punting, but scoring plays give you two ST plays (XP and kickoff) and there was no scoring in that game. NU did run 84 plays to our 59. Let's just move on...

Counting Serth, myself, and WolvinLA2, there'd be at least three people there. I would includ HermosaBlue, too, but I think he moved.

As much as we would all like to unscramble certain eggs, I think we're stuck with at least Nebraska and probably Maryland and Rutgers as well. To hell with Notre Dame.

with two 8-team divisions each. Division winners play in the quarterfinals, conference winners play in the semis and those winners play in the finals. That's the future.

I see this is a throwback to a bygone era, but any sensible solution going forward has to include Utah. They are a PAC-12 member. They belong somewhere.
|1 week 4 days ago||2014 QB ratings||
Are the QB ratings for the Maryland and Nebraska games correct? They are exactly the same, making me think one's a copy and paste typo.
|1 week 4 days ago||Common opponents||
It's really sad that two quarterbacks from the same conference only had 3 common opponents in 2014. When that's the case, can you really call it a conference? It's more like two separate divisions that have a conference championship game to see who gets to play in the CFP. It's really just a quarterfinal game in the playoff.

I wanted to post a photo of C.J.'s gloriously flowing mane, but it looks like he cleaned up for this year.

Your comment reminds me of a SouthPark episode I saw where Cartman eats food through his anus and poops out of his mouth, and that is why I don't watch SouthPark.
|1 week 6 days ago||Haas||
In the few Purdue games I saw, Haas outplayed Hammons. I was surprised to see Hammons' season stats were considerably better than Haas'. Perhaps the draft expert expects Haas to take away more of Hammons minutes.
Hammons reminds me of OSU's Amir Williams, who wasn't drafted this year. Yes, Hammons has better stats, so maybe he gets picked in the 2nd round. Like others have said, it's more about his motivation than his talent.

|2 weeks 7 hours ago||A little history lesson||
In the summer of 1969, the good writers at MGoNewspaperColumn decided to have a little fun and they held a draft of Big 10 football players. At that time, there were at least 8 or 9 teams in the Big 10; my memory isn't so good. Rex Kern was the first player taken in the draft. He was quickly followed by Jim Otis and Jack Tatum. A slew of fellow buckeyes followed. (Just like this draft, no Maryland or Rutgers players were selected.) But a funny thing happened on November 22, 1969. 24-12, indeed.
