in the limited time I watched them Friday night, they appeared to be dealing with some injury issues on offense. I'd check the injury report before placing any bets.

from your list where Kalis escorted Smith into the endzone reminded me of that famous High School photo of Kalis. If he stays healthy and can drive block B1G defenders 10 yards back, the line is going to be alright this year.
Cole made a couple mistakes, but that's to be expected from a true frosh in his first start. Otherwise, I think he played really well. I made a comment about Burzynski being small, but other than Braden, nobody is really in that 6'7", 310 pound mode. If Kalis and Braden can work together on the right side, and Cole and Mags can provide pass protection on the left, we might just have something. I agree, if they can find a way to maximize Miller's strengths and minimize the weak spots, we'll have a competent running attack. We just need something to keep the defense honest so that Funchess can go ham on the secondary.

made a comment after Funchess 2nd TD, I think, that the Appalachian State players had to make that play. I was left wondering how, by growing 6 inches in the middle of the play? That was the perfect example of what Brian's been writing about that plagued our guys last year. If the QB makes the perfect throw and puts it in that 6 inch window, there's nothing you can do on defense except say nice job and move on.

4. Tight end blocking
5. RB blocking
Brian hit on it in his offensive post. The RB protection and TE blocking last year was pretty bad. There were times when the line held up and needed the RB to take on the blitzer and the RB just got tossed aside like a ragdoll. I don't expect to see us passing much tomorrow, so RB blocking probably won't get answered until next week. I do hope to see more of the RBs used in the screen game. There were very few screens last year, to the point that the defenses didn't even have to play us honest and respect the screen.

just this morning I was bemoaning our lack of squat stats, and then you give me his squat in the first paragraph after the jump.

My reply would be funny, except last year happened.

Thanks for reminding me about John Law. When I was a kid, we called cops, "Johnny Law."
Yes, this game sounds more like CMU from last year. Will we really learn anything about the team against ND? That's one of those, throw out the records/rivalry games where anything can happen. Miami (NTM) is similar to Akron, I guess, and then we have Utah at home instead of UConn on the road. Minnesota was decent last year, but we blew them out. I think @ Rutgers and the Penn State game are where we really start finding out if this team can contend for the division crown.

This preview reminded me of the Akron and UConn previews from last year. I just hope we dominate on both sides of the ball and put 2013 behind us where it belongs.
I wish we had more than just weight to go on when comparing offensive and defensive lines. I don't care if one guy weighs 270 and the other weighs 300 if the former can squat 500 pounds while the latter can only squat 350 and has poor pad level. (I obviously know nothing about realistic squat metrics.)

Their only real bad loss last year was to us, 42-13. Wisconsin beat them by 13 and MSU beat them by 11 in East Lansing. I expect to see them in the top 4/7 of the west division. They finish the year at Neb and at Wis, so winning the division is probably not going to happen, but they could go 5-3 if they can upset the buckeyes in Minny.

Minnesota is for realz, yo. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the Legends division. I mean the North, no wait, is it the Leaders division? The West, yes it's the West.

instead of a football, I feel like he should be holding a briefcase. They're just a little too business-like for my tastes. I half expect the player to remove his helmet and yell, "You can't handle the truth!" No wait, that was Nicholson's line. "I want the truth!" That's better.

I get the feeling THE KNOWLEDGE mailed it in with this post - a few weeks from now, to be sure - but I still would've liked to see more of the future now.

I can almost wrap my mind around the concept of them winning the Big Ten last season, going out to Pasadena, and winning the Rose Bowl, but this is the second time this week I've been reminded that they won 13 games last season. THIRTEEN! THE SPARTANS?!? How is that even possible? My head hurts.

|5 days 12 hours ago||the jerseys||
The jerseys have had advertising on them for a long time. At least, that's what I call that annoying adidas logo. It's an ad for Adidas, but I get your point. Whenever I see the LA Galaxy play soccer, I think of them as the Herbalife team, not the Galaxy.
|5 days 15 hours ago||They've never sold||
advertising in the stadium during Michigan football games. There, I fixed that for you. I don't know if the AD sold the ads or indirectly benefitted from them, but there were ads in the stadium for the soccer game. Did anybody perish as a result? I'm not taking a position one way or the other on this, just pointing out ads have been in the stadium.

He posted a photo of an USC cheerleader jumping into a pool on the drowning thread. I think that's what did it, unless something else got caved. I didn't see anything on the Moderator sticky about it. He initially got sent to Bolivian but then was reset to 0 points. 205 points in one day shows how much he posts here. He'll be back up in the 5 figures in no time.

One's a good number, right? Everybody wants to be #1. Nobody holds up 2 or 3 fingers and says we're #2 or #3.

if they changed the colors to green and white and tried selling them in East Lansing. Ragging on your own coach is supposed to show team spirit?!? I don't get it.
