and not just because I agree with you on the Kalis thing.
I keep picturing Denard running that play. I know he's a QB, not a RB so it's a little different, but how many times did he put his hand on his lineman's back, wait for the hole, wait for the hole, and then BAM! he was gone. Patience is a virtue. It's tough to be patient on 4th and 1, but that's what was called for on that play.

As the season progresses, I expect to see more Bunting, Isaac (sp?), and Harris on offense, and possibly see Dawson replace Braden. For a first game on the road, he went with the veterans. AJ Williams is not a viable receiving threat. Green getting only 2 carries has to send a message to him, and even though I really like Chesson, Harris has too much potential. Braden just wasn't getting any push all night.
|17 hours 50 min ago||Kalis||
So if Kalis pulled and didn't hit anybody, don't you think it would be a good idea to follow him until he actually hit somebody, many yards past the first down line? That's how power works. ReadYourGuard, back me up on this.
And if there are two guys in the middle of the line, doesn't that imply that at least Braden and possibly also Glasgow blew their assignments?

the Jackhammer award, to tie in to the banner line thing.
|17 hours 55 min ago||Replays||
I noticed that too. I was DVR'ing the game, about 1 hour behind so I wouldn't have to sit through so many commercials. I started doing my own replays.
|17 hours 58 min ago||Kalis' pull||
That 4th and one failure to convert is not on him, unless the play called for him to pull from RG to the gap between the center and the left guard. That wouldn't make any sense to me. There's just not enough space to get the numbers advantage. If you watch the play, there is a gigantic open space to the outside, but Smith, thinking he only needs one yard, decides not to follow his guard and instead plunges into the center of the line. I'd love to hear ReadYourGuard's take on that play, because Smith clearly didn't follow his guard. All that's required on that play is a little bit of patience to see where Kalis is taking you.

I would have been fine with a thread titled, "let's be fans and acknowledge the good things our team did." I don't praise losing efforts. Like I said, I reserve that for youth sports. This is big-time college football. That said, there were many, many positives to take from this game (Butt, Darboh, Rudock's completion percentage, Utah totaling 3 yards in TFLs against us. The defense looks the same or better as last year.)The team will get better, but I'm frustrated and I'm not praising anybody today. Give me 24 hours to digest this.
If I have to be honest, I was likely influenced by The Mathlete's post showing us 2nd overall in his talent plus experience metric. As such, I was hoping for a win. And we would have won if we were neutral in the turnover margin.

I always imagine him looking like this:

Sorry, I don't give participation trophies to college students. I reserve that for 3rd graders.

To those arguing that Morris should have come in the game, you do realize that you are on the same side as Colin Cowherd and David Brandon.

I used to live in East Lansing, and my recollection is that East Lansing has a normal population of rats for a city it's size.

increment by +1. UofM is 1-7 in our last 8 games against PAC teams. That has to stop. It's time to end that nonsense.
|2 days 13 hours ago||"lack of effort"||
I think it was either the injured ankle or Gardner leading him into getting lit up on crossing routes one too many times. I remember Utah just teeing off on Funchess several times. I think my level of effort would suffer under similar circumstances.
|2 days 18 hours ago||Funchess||
was also injured for most of last season. A healthy Funchess is >>> than Chesson or whatever Brian wrote, but Funchess was not healthy last year.

Lewan, Molk, Martin, Kovacs, and probably Hemingway would start on the 2015 team. Omameh and Kalis would be the guards. That 2011 O-line paved the way for two 1000 yard rushers.

I agree with The_Knowledge. If you want more details on this season, keep reading. This is from my annual prediction I email my brother:
M 17, Utah 6: Michigan comes out looking strong and convincingly beats a good Utah team, controlling them better than the score indicates. M fans get over-irrationally hyped about the coming season.
M 27, OSU 3: M overpowers a weak beaver squad
M 57, UNLV 14: UNLV gets a couple late scores as you and Anna (my brother and niece) get in the game as part of the 7th string defense
M 17, BYU 27: Expectations are brought back down to earth as M has trouble handling the BYU offense
M 21, M 20: Michigan squeaks by the terrapins
M 31, NU 16: puts to bed the M00N references
M 19, MSU 13: Cook is good, but Stribling makes his case for all-Big 10 honors with 2 picks, Peppers houses a return, the d-line is able to hold up against the sparties for the first time in ages. Taco Bell unsung player of the game is Wormley.
M 27, M14: The gophers don’t scare me this year. Last year was their year. Harbaugh >>> Kill.
M 45, R 7: payback for last season’s Gary Novapocalypse and the reffing blunder at the end. Darboh catches 13 for 130 yards.
M 44, IU 9: Rudock is really rolling now…
M 13, PSU 14: until he runs into Anthony Zettel. Losing him to PSU was a Uge transition cost going from Rich Rod to Hoke.
M 28, OSU 27: What’s your deal, Urban? Drake Harris has M fans salivating over what will be next season, but who will be throwing him the pigskin in ’16?
So that’s 10-2 and 7-1 in the conference. M and OSU both finish 7-1, but UofM gets the head-to-head tiebreaker.
M 31, Neb 10: Neb goes 5-3 in the west and wins a convoluted 5 way tiebreaker with Iowa, Minny, Wiscy, and Purdue. The west sucks and Neb proves it in the championship game. (remember OSU 59-0 over Wiscy last season?)
Michigan rises to #5 in the polls, but has too much ground to make up and misses out on the Final 4. We go to a NYD bowl and lose that because Harbaugh is bringing back Bo’s Michigan.
11-3 overall. If you think that’s farfetched, remember Hoke went 11-2 his first season. Harbaugh has better talent than Hoke had (except Denard) and is a much better coach. It could happen.

I don't mind the National Anthem so much, but I think singing America the Beautiful or whatever it is they sing during the seventh inning stretch nowadays is overdoing it.

I went to an Angel playoff game a few years ago where they gave out thunder sticks. Imagine having to listen to the person behind you (and 40,000 others) bang those things together for 3 hours. Talk about a migraine.
|4 days 22 hours ago||Minnesota||
I was one of the biggest Minnesota boosters on the board last year. That said, I think all the BTN talking heads are a year late to the party and Minnesota is not going to meet expectations this year. Losing Maxx and Cobb is going to hurt them this season. Leidner is losing his security blanket and will be exposed this year as a mediocre QB. Kill's the best of the ex-MAC coaches in the B1G (not including Urban Meyer since he only coached 2 years in the MAC many years ago,) but he's no Harbaugh.
|4 days 22 hours ago||no sic needed||
When Utah joined the Pac-12, there were only 10 teams. Therefore, I don't think it's erroneous for him to say Whittingham took them to the Pac-10. That's what they were, until Utah and Colorado joined.
|1 week 11 hours ago||so what||
why does ABC/ESPN get to dictate our schedule? I mean, besides the gobs of money they throw at us?
Although I have to admit that the 12 noon start works fine for me on the west coast. Roll out of bed, have some breakfast, watch the game, eat lunch. If we win, see what the next game is. If we lose, crank up the Smiths and wallow in misery for the rest of the weekend.
|1 week 18 hours ago||two bold predictions||
One, during an unseasonably warm non-conference game, Ian Bunting calls timeout, takes two eggs out of his uniform, cracks them, and proceeds to fry them on his skillet hands on the 50 yard line. Yes, I just got done reading Brian's TE preview.
Two, the first time I hear Beth Mowins pronounce Jake Rudock's name, I will have a seizure a la Kramer listening to Mary Hart speak

|1 week 18 hours ago||Possible new coach||
It might be considered a long shot, but I think their next coach could be none other than Chuck Long. He played at Iowa, was raised in Illinois, and has head coaching experience at San Diego State, on second thought, scratch this idea.
|1 week 18 hours ago||Mike Thomas (NTMTOTMT)||
To me, he will always be Illinois AD Mike Thomas (NTMTOTMT). He's not the OSU WR or my brother.
