Does this mean he has to drink a Bud Light with Lime? I was only partly paying attention to that segment so I don't recall the exact bet he made. Not quite the same as eating a lemon, but it will do.

I thought the only person who could break the wheel was Rand Al'Thor. Oh, sorry, wrong epic fantasy series...
|1 day 9 hours ago||TV quality||
I saw an interview with Mike Judge and Alec Berg about their show Silicon Valley. Judge at first was almost apologetic for taking a whole year to produce 10 half hour TV shows, but then he said it was like making 3 movies a year. From that perspective, you can see why the quality has improved so dramatically in many instances.
|1 day 14 hours ago||Mowins||
with all the softball coverage this weekend, I think I OD'd on Beth Mowins. I've never heard a play-by-play announcer be so excited by a defense getting the lead runner out before. She was working in a 3 woman booth, yet she talked the entire time.

was a headcase who benefitted immensely from being on the same team as MJ. Top 5 player of what? All-time? His era? His conference? His team?

Jordan would rip out Harden's heart and eat it with a nice chianti, or something. Harden looked like he was stoned in Game 5 and played like it, 13 turnovers. I can just see him trying that "draw a foul" stuff on Jordan and Jordan picking his pocket and going the other way. Harden is an out of control chucker who has benefitted from the superstar treatment and the new foul rules.
No one today could stop Kareem's skyhook, and no one today has that weapon.

We're deep into May gray with June gloom right around the corner. SoCal seasons are strange.

I had an interview many years ago. At the end, the HR person sat down with me for another half hour to get my impression of the day. The entire time we were talking, she was busily writing notes on her note pad while never once looking down at her notes. That's an amazing skill. Either that, or she was just writing jibberish to look like she was doing something.

somewhat selfishly, I'll say W hockey because my 7th grade niece plays on a travel team and would look really good in the maize and blue, but my brother is convinced it's too expensive and will never be made a varsity sport.

He's been a member for over four years and has 2 points, so this was an incredibly elaborate plot by 1484 to see 4 years into the future to set up this ruse. How dastardly.

I've never heard of the EYBL. Someone please tell me it's called the "eyeball."

The Bo hat is the best. I don't like that fat yellow M they are wearing with the yellow bill. It doesn't say "Michigan" to me. It looks like some generic thing you'd find at Target or Sears.

Talk about uniformz. Only one guy has an M sweater. Another guy has a Y on his chest. Some guys went with dark sleeves under sleeveless vests, a la Harmon Killebrew and the Cincinnati Reds. And frankly, that doesn't look like Maize to me.

In 6th grade science class, we were studying pH levels using bromothymol blue. I decided it would be interesting to test the pH level of the class fish tank. It's kind of hard to disguise the fact that someone dropped BTB into the fish tank, so my experiment was discovered immediately by the teacher. She threatened to keep the entire class after school until someone fessed up. I meekly raised my hand and admitted to the BTB affair.

Maybe he's got a thing for the Golden Girl, or he just likes trains.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||flopping||
Maybe I'm just really old, but I think if NCAA and NBA refs started giving out technical fouls for flopping under the "unsportsmanlike conduct" provision, that would take care of flopping.
Unsportsmanlike conduct (also called unsporting behaviour or ungentlemanly conduct) is a foul or offense in many sports that violates the sport's generally accepted rules of sportsmanship and participant conduct. Examples include verbal abuse or taunting of an opponent, an excessive celebration following a scoring play, or feigning injury. The official rules of many sports include a catch-all provision whereby participants or an entire team may be penalized or otherwise sanctioned for unsportsmanlike conduct.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Don's happiness||
I think he found his happiness when he was hugging the other guy who had the same problem as him. That's a scene that I'll rewatch as I think it holds the key to Don's future. The guy was complaining that nobody loved him, and wasn't that Don's problem? He was raised in a brothel and could never understand love. He went through woman after woman and they all left him. Ultimately, it wasn't about finding love outside himself, it was that "Om" 'ing he did at the end that shows he's finally found inner peace.
I think the Coke ad could be a Peggy production written or inspired by Don. She said something about him always coming back, so I think that's a clue about his future.
Also interesting that Joan trys coke, a drug, and then Don ostensibly writes the famous Coke jingle that sells another drug, caffeine. He starts as an ad man for nicotine and ends as an ad men for caffeine. Kind of ties the whole story together.

Why is she such a big part of the show (or the books for that matter?) Her storyline puts me to sleep. I hope she has some important part to play later on, because otherwise I'm going to be disappointed that they spent so much time showing her washing dead bodies. She's totally isolated from the rest of the GoT world.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||in my opinion||
Buscemi was horribly miscast as Nucky Thompson. I thought the first season or so was OK, but I didn't even get to the final season, and it's rare for me to give up on a show that early. They had only 4 seasons I think, and the storylines were all over the place. I never figured out why Nucky was an important character. What was compelling about him? He was just a centerpiece to tell all these other stories about Capone and Meyer Lansky and all those mob guys, but their stories didn't interest me.
Mad Men got a little repetitive in seasons 4-7 as they would face pressure from the outside only to be saved by some deal Roger cooked up at the last minute. I also think Mad Men got less interesting as they moved from the early 60's to the late 60's, perhaps because I was born in 1970 and the early 60's are more removed from my experience, so it was interesting to see that time period portrayed.
