Illinois tried to hire him last year and he said no. A guy who turns down Illinois isn't going to want a gig at Northwestern. |

There is no way that Maryland's travel costs are doubling. On average Maryland is only ~150 miles further away from Big Ten schools than ACC schools. And for football, the schools in the Big Ten East division will actually be closer than those in the ACC Atlantic division. |
| 11 weeks 4 days ago | I really hate this No-Heart |
I really hate this No-Heart crap. As if the team was insufficiently interested in winning a Big Ten title or would have won the game if they'd just tried a little harder. This despite the obvious problem that they don't know how to play good defense. The No-Heart Theory says that they know how to play defense but just can't be bothered, which I think is really insulting to a bunch of kids who work harder than any of us probably know. (Yes, I know Burke said it. He was angry and said something pat get his inteview over with. I'll bet he's taking it one game at a time and is just glad to be here too.)

| 12 weeks 6 days ago | FSU |
There is almost no chance that FSU would be invited to the Big Ten. It's not a good school, isn't in the AAU and is a distant 2nd banana to Florida in their own state. |
| 14 weeks 18 hours ago | Agreed. |
It was a block. Given the way blocks are called now, which is to say that the defender cannot moving laterally at all. It wasn't immediately visible from the main game camera but when they showed it from a different angle, Burke got to a spot and then tried to slide a little more to his left because Berggren had seen him and was going to get by him. |
| 15 weeks 21 hours ago | schtick |
I'm not a fan of Rafftery's schtick either, but he at least has some honest-to-god basketball smarts and can actually say informative things that add to my appreciation of the game. Vitale's logorrhea is comprised of almost zero substance beyond the blindingly obvious. |
| 15 weeks 21 hours ago | Vital = brutal |
His mindless jabbering is proverbial nails on a chalkboard for me. Robert Montgomery Knight? Everyone DRINK! Argh. |
| 29 weeks 6 days ago | Crazymaking |
This was a completely crazymaking game from a offensive playcalling standpoint. MSU was well-prepped and knew exactly what was coming on many plays. Probably a dozen times I thought, OK, fake the inverted veer and toss it to the slot on a slant. Please please pleeeeez. But no. |
| 29 weeks 6 days ago | There's conservative and then |
There's conservative and then there's just being stubborn or lacking imagination or something. Conservative is refusing to take silly chances chucking the ball around (which Michigan kinda did anyway - Denard threw 29 times). Conservative is not running a QB draw right into MSU's obvious double A gap blitz for like the 4th time in the game. |
| 30 weeks 21 hours ago | Field Rushing |
I was on the field as a student once. I can't remember exactly when - I think it was Iowa in 1986. It also seems to me that it was vaguely half-assed. We ran around whooping it up for a couple of minutes and then scrambled back over the wall and went home. |

I'm a barefoot 6'3" and Novak is definitely not shorter than me. He's slightly taller, although 6'5" might be stretching it. |

Who peed in your Cheerios? Wishing a kid (and we are talking about kids here) good luck doesn't mean that you hope that his team beats Michigan. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | I've seen that "do you want |
I've seen that "do you want to play Alabama" thing a couple of times now, and it never occured to me that it would be in any other context than what you propose. I'm actually having a hard time figuring out what other context(s) could even make sense. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Exactly. Thomas doesn't have |
Exactly. Thomas doesn't have to be Denard. He just has to be not-John Navarre. As long as he can run somewhat well, he's a constraint on the D and they have to defend him as a runner. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Yes. There's zero in the |
Yes. There's zero in the article that says Meyer is planning to do anything different beside run his offense faster, which is where the Oregon comparison comes into play. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | The only thing the article |
The only thing the article says about Oregon is that Meyer wants to run his offense faster - like Oregon. It doesn't say that Meyer is changing his offense to be like Oregon's, as the headline stupidly suggests. Miller says that's he's going to run the triple option because that's Meyer's offense. It's the same offense he used at Florida. It's not Oregon's offense. I didn't say that it would be like Okie State. I said that in as much OSU's offense will be "modelled" on Oregon's in the form of up-tempo, they might as well have said that it's "modelled" on Okie State's also very up-tempo offense. |
| 1 year 4 weeks ago | Terrible headline |
Nothing in that article suggest that OSU's offense will be "modeled" on Oregon's. In fact the only thing about Oregon's offense that seems relevent is the uptempo no-huddle nature of it. They might as well have said it's modeled on Okie State's offense. |

Also, '89 was when the Pistons finally beat the Lakers and won their first championship. Michigan was the basketball capital of the US for a while. |
| 1 year 7 weeks ago | would have been there |
I lived on Church St at the time and would have been in the middle of it, except that I had a paper due the next day and wound up pulling an all-nighter to write it after I watched the game. I do remember watching news the next and being surprised about the chaos. I also remember being a little dubious as to the events' status as a "riot" because one of the pieces of video evidence presented by Channel 4 was a clip of an overturned newspaper box. |

Middle-Earth is/was a couple of doors down. I think at the time the building to the east of China Gate was occupied by a place that sold posters. |

Huh? It has literally never occured to me that it meant anything other than "someone who is already a sophomore and is getting increased attention". c.f., "his stock is rising". |
