"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."

I loves me some MGoRadio, but, man, that was agonizing. Kudos to Brian for trying multiple times to steer the discussion somewhere more interesting.

FWIW UNLV's website has Dominic Baldwin listed at a more believable 265 instead of 230.

And the Kings reportedly want to hire Calipari to be their coach AND general manager, which is pretty strong evidence that they know less than nothing about basketball.

|29 weeks 6 days ago||Seriously? You think that||
Seriously? You think that he's not a nice guy because he's in jail for armed robbery? Not because he probably MURDERED two people even though he was found not guilty? Hoooo-key-doke.
And I'm not comparing Frank Clark to OJ Simpson. I'm presenting OJ as example of where public opinion diverges from the results of the criminal justice system.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||First, Clark was found guilty||
First, Clark was found guilty because he pled to a reduced charge.
Secondly, criminal justice is something that informs public opinion but public opinion can and does diverge from trial results. I mean, OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murdering his wife and Ron Goldman. Ergo, he didn't do, right? And he must be an okay guy, right?
|29 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah, but so what? The NFL is||
Yeah, but so what? The NFL is not a court of criminal justice. They get to decide who does and does not play in their league. Being found guilty of a crime is a simple yardstick for evaluating whether they don't want someone in their league, but it certainly doesn't have to be the only yardstick.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||Exactly||
Exactly. c.f., "we think that he made a mistake but we also think that he's contrite and will represent us well going forward" vs. "we think that he didn't do it". There's a giant, yawning canyon between those two.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||And even worse, they appear||
And even worse, they appear to be backing his preposterous claim that he didn't assault his girlfriend (modulo "hit" vs. "assault"). To me, that's the real jaw-dropper here. Not that he was arrested or pled or whatever. It's that he continues to lie or, at a minimum, dissemble about something awful, and the Seahawks are just fine and dandy with that *and* willing to publicly say that he didn't do anything wrong. It beggars the imagination.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||The NFL can ban guys for||
The NFL can ban guys for whatever reason it wants. It's their game. Due process has nothing to do with it.
|29 weeks 6 days ago||Clark didn't hit her?||
Clark didn't hit her? Is that supposed to be some lawyerly distinction between "struck" and "assaulted"? If that's what he and the Seahawks are rolling with, it's some pretty weak sauce.

Totally not seeing that. Kerridge is 1 on 2 against the end and the backer. Whoever he doesn't block is there for the tackle no matter where Fitz goes.
Watching this play live, I thought it was a misread by Gardner all the way, and I don't see anything in the clips above that says otherwise. He pulls, Kerridge blocks one guy, Fitz blocks the other and Gardner probably gets the edge if Funchess manages to occupy his guy for more than a second.

Illinois tried to hire him last year and he said no. A guy who turns down Illinois isn't going to want a gig at Northwestern.

There is no way that Maryland's travel costs are doubling. On average Maryland is only ~150 miles further away from Big Ten schools than ACC schools. And for football, the schools in the Big Ten East division will actually be closer than those in the ACC Atlantic division.
|2 years 39 weeks ago||I really hate this No-Heart||
I really hate this No-Heart crap. As if the team was insufficiently interested in winning a Big Ten title or would have won the game if they'd just tried a little harder. This despite the obvious problem that they don't know how to play good defense. The No-Heart Theory says that they know how to play defense but just can't be bothered, which I think is really insulting to a bunch of kids who work harder than any of us probably know.
(Yes, I know Burke said it. He was angry and said something pat get his inteview over with. I'll bet he's taking it one game at a time and is just glad to be here too.)
|2 years 40 weeks ago||FSU||
There is almost no chance that FSU would be invited to the Big Ten. It's not a good school, isn't in the AAU and is a distant 2nd banana to Florida in their own state.
|2 years 41 weeks ago||Agreed.||
It was a block. Given the way blocks are called now, which is to say that the defender cannot moving laterally at all. It wasn't immediately visible from the main game camera but when they showed it from a different angle, Burke got to a spot and then tried to slide a little more to his left because Berggren had seen him and was going to get by him.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||schtick||
I'm not a fan of Rafftery's schtick either, but he at least has some honest-to-god basketball smarts and can actually say informative things that add to my appreciation of the game. Vitale's logorrhea is comprised of almost zero substance beyond the blindingly obvious.
|2 years 42 weeks ago||Vital = brutal||
His mindless jabbering is proverbial nails on a chalkboard for me.
Robert Montgomery Knight? Everyone DRINK!
|3 years 5 weeks ago||Crazymaking||
This was a completely crazymaking game from a offensive playcalling standpoint. MSU was well-prepped and knew exactly what was coming on many plays. Probably a dozen times I thought, OK, fake the inverted veer and toss it to the slot on a slant. Please please pleeeeez. But no.
|3 years 5 weeks ago||There's conservative and then||
There's conservative and then there's just being stubborn or lacking imagination or something. Conservative is refusing to take silly chances chucking the ball around (which Michigan kinda did anyway - Denard threw 29 times). Conservative is not running a QB draw right into MSU's obvious double A gap blitz for like the 4th time in the game.

I was on the field as a student once. I can't remember exactly when - I think it was Iowa in 1986. It also seems to me that it was vaguely half-assed. We ran around whooping it up for a couple of minutes and then scrambled back over the wall and went home.

I'm a barefoot 6'3" and Novak is definitely not shorter than me. He's slightly taller, although 6'5" might be stretching it.
