It was so complimentary and…

It was so complimentary and well done that I am not sure he is even really an OSU fan...

UM is a base 3-4, however,…

UM is a base 3-4, however, they played nickel more than not last year because of opposing teams offenses.

The nickel can be called either a 2-4-5 or a 4-2-5 depending on what you want to call their edges. That said if you put in 4-2-5 as the base it will make the front like what DB ran. Meaning they will likely have a 7t and 5t DEs, with their hands in the dirt, and a 3t and 1t DTs. Whereas, UM's nickel has the IDL in 3t and in the 2i, with both jacks shaded outside the last man connected to the line. So, the DEs technique is based of the surface their side, and they both stand up too, obviously.

I'm assuming that since this…

I'm assuming that since this was about other teams prompting Mac into the 5-1 front that was highlighted in this article, then going tempto to lock them into the front.

However, this isn't a situation where the 5-1 front means they have 5 DL and one LB on the field. Macdonald used 2-4-5, 3-3-5 and their 3-4 base personnel to run the 5-1 front. Obviously, he ran different fronts with these personnel too. So, going tempo right after getting UM to go 5-1 front won't lock them into that front if they go tempo

This is a weird thing to say…

This is a weird thing to say following a year they were stuff a bunch of times going for it on 4th instead of kicking a field goal. I don't think he has had this philosophy in years actually.

They can if the coach is…

They can if the coach is hired as an on field position coach. If he is hired in the recruiting department, then the restrictions apply.

How is hart a better option?…

How is hart a better option? He is worse at recruiting and development compared to Jay.

Most of the OSU fans at the…

Most of the OSU fans at the game of late have actually started buying season tickets. So, it's not UM fans selling seats to their heated rivals, it OSU buying season tickets, and selling all games but OSU every other year.

Can you not learn a thing or…

Can you not learn a thing or two from your coach that would carry over to your time coaching?

I'm not saying he did get this from BB, but he certainly could, and probably did, that at least some of what BB does as a coach and uses it himself.

Lakeale, Bama wouldn't have…

Lakeale, Bama wouldn't have lost to a Freeze lead Ole Miss twice if significantly better rosters with equal or better coaching win 100%. OSU wouldn't have lost to anyone in the big ten since Urban got there. Hell, Michigan wouldn't have lost to App state all those years ago, if your claim was true.

Players want to, determination and plain old fashioned luck have a lot more to do with the game of football than people think.

Your last paragraph is why…

Your last paragraph is why there were notore chunck plays. Gattis' playdesign and calling isn't really designed to be a long effecient drive creating offense. It has a bunch of chunk play capabilities too, the players just have to make the plays more consistently.

Yeah, does he think Harbaugh…

Yeah, does he think Harbaugh has been coaching MSU the last few years?

Like say... Having 4…

Like say... Having 4 Michigan fans officiate the game, like the "competitive advantage" OSU received in 16?

I think um pulls out wins with those advantages.

Michigan led for Drennen…

Michigan led for Drennen early when they were recruiting him. They then backed off when other backs became higher on their boards.

There is literally no player they have grabbed, from Ohio or Michigan, that Michigan wanted.

The question was about guys…

The question was about guys that Kentucky is taking that Michigan wants.

That was not what the  comment you replied to was saying. It said the article, about Kentucky beating Michigan head to head for Ohio recruits, is meaningless without examples.

You have an example of a Michigan kid that Michigan stopped recruiting long before he signed with UK.

How did dantonio get…

How did dantonio get overruled? Dantonio had a glowing review of Tucker and has past coaching experience with him.

We would be talking about…

We would be talking about their coaching hire no matter who it was.

Only because there was no way they were not going to royally screw the pooch. Which is fun to talk about.

His daughter is a freshman…

His daughter is a freshman on the water polo team.

I saw you post this stuff…

I saw you post this stuff about not having a mark Pantoni on your new Twitter acvount today. Please explain the difference between marks job and Sean McGee's, because they seem to have the same responsibilities, but with different titles.

You are absolutely wrong…

You are absolutely wrong about what Webb's said. Like not in the same ball park, just making stuff up wrong.

I'm confused, did he not…

I'm confused, did he not have a QB, or did he have a QB, but the team quit on the QB?

Are you telling us there is…

Are you telling us there is a chance UM can land his nephew in a few years???

I would say DL gap…

I would say DL gap discipline was far and away a bigger issue in the Wisconsin and OSU games than DL size.

I think the Tite defense and…

I think the Tite defense and the inverted Tampa two have defenses lineman much like described here. They both pretty much have 2 anchor types and a nose that is more 3t-ish than an traditional 3-4 nose. These defense also use hybrid type players, who for sure could be called specialty players.

Yeah, I agree with this…

Yeah, I agree with this completely. He follow up post were much more objective for the most part. The first one seemed a lot like when Franklin had their current TE do an interview where he basically recruited a kid to PSU and gave all the sales pitches why he should choose PSU over Michigan.

I will say this, even the later post, that did seem more objective, came off as someone who was making statements about something he wasn't that plugged into. His comments  on something were pretty much the opposite of what Steve, sam and now you, have said.

Pretty sure it has been said…

Pretty sure it has been said that this stuff was only done early on. It's a pretty good approach if you are trying to change a programs culture.

He is a ND grad who is…

He is a ND grad who is pretty plugged in with PSU.

I don't think he fits with…

I don't think he fits with their current system all that well actually.

You are absolutely right…

You are absolutely right Rockin. JM was in deep half responsibilities when he got beat twice for TDs. He just used very poor technique.

Iowa's safeties are in deep half or deep quarter coverage often. They just play better technique. That's the difference.

Exactly. Lewerke got a first…

Exactly. Lewerke got a first down and stood up, extended his arm parallel to the ground and dropped the ball after a second then walked away. This actually fits the delay of game rule, but it wasn't called.

Black was called because they thought it was taunting, which was asinine.

They are running a throwback…

They are running a throwback screen too the QB. When you run a screen the guy catching the pass does not have DPI protection and can be hit before the ball gets there.

Michigan was driving late in…

Michigan was driving late in the fourth to win and okorn throw a bad pic. OSU then scored on a longish run while trying to run the clock out.

They had the lead most of that game.

That first pin and pull…

That first pin and pull looks to be doomed by the McKeon and Mayfield. It's hard to see without the all-22, but it looks like the DT isn't in a 3t here,a is actually in a 4T, or possibly 4I. While the DE is in a 6 or 7t.

Therefore, it really seems like McKeon should block down at the DT, while Mayfield goes to the second level at the snap. Big Mike would then block the end out (instead of having no one to block) and Ruiz would cut up behind mckeon down block and get the blitzing safety.

The DT slanting to the strongside could clog this play up anyways. But, to me, that's how they should be blocking a pin and pull verse this look.

Getting a bunch of mesh reps…

Getting a bunch of mesh reps between the QB and RB is something that these guys almost certainly do before practice. Then I'm sure they do one individual period a practice I came to it because it's such a big part of their offensive philosophy.

I think the first part is something people don't realize happens when they question if a team is going over the 20 hour limit. That being, guys get out there early to work on things inside their own game they need work on. This would for sure be something the RB and QB would do pre practice.

I agree many are not…

I agree many are not subjective. However, when the PI is clearly a phantom call because there is no contact by the player bring flagged is not subjective.

I think they could figure out a way to buzz down and get these looked at.

I'd add in OPI on pick plays were the WR is flat out blocking to the list too.

The biggest thing was not…

The biggest thing was not putting the ball on the ground. Once they got out of their own way they have been rolling.

Shea got picked two plays…

Shea got picked two plays after the bad OPI, which PSU scored on with a short field. So, it took points away. That PSU score doesn't happen if Collins catch wasn't taken away.

Verse OSU a lot of it was…

Verse OSU a lot of it was the inability to get pressure. With the athletes they had, and with a first round QB, no pressure=good night.

I didnt see if there was a…

I didnt see if there was a single high safety if not it is a bit risky verse safety. But they were not attempting to go deep because their Qb would be destroyed if they ran anything that took any time to develop.

Umm, getting to the line to…

Umm, getting to the line to spike it to stop a review has nothing to do with integrity. It's part of the game.

Much like the arch read,…

Much like the arch read, Michigan literally could have ran RPOs every single lay and lit them up. Because MTSU was simply never going to stop bringing the heat every play and the coaches wanted to work on some other plays

Yeah, it's just pretty…

Yeah, it's just pretty confusing why he wasn't reading the DE at the beginning of the play.

They ran a speed option, …

They ran a speed option, (which I define as an option were the QB and pitch man threaten the perimeter right after the snap)a few times. Shea's first run was one. But it was a single option play, as in, thr QB and RB are the only potential ball carriers. With the play highlighted the RB is the first option with the split zone if the DE comes up field. If the DE crashes then you go into the second option with the orbit player.

So, you are right, they did run the speed option a few times. But this play is something I would say is a triple option that is a more modern form of how the service academies run it.

There are a few different…

There are a few different ways you can attack a team running cover 0 or cover 1. The black TD was checked into to attack this. Scissor routes puts a safety in cover 1 in a bind, and if it's cover 0 there is no deep safety and puts the guys in man in a bad spot too. Same with the 4 verts TD to McKeon, as is a slot fade like they did to Mike S.

There is a few different ways you can go about messing with the defense bfor choosing to bring so much pressure outside of mesh or slot slants or the like.

You cant push your guy that…

You cant push your guy that far down field on an RPO because you will get an illegal man down field flag if the QB throws. The reason why seth said that the last pin and pull had the RT pull too and that made him think there will probably see an RPO off this is because the RT normally shoots to the scond levl to get a LB but that would get a flag if its an pass from an RPO.

MTSU looks to be in cover 1…

MTSU looks to be in cover 1 and bringing both linebacker, which they did from either cover 1 or 0 all night. The safety seems to be coming down because he has the #2 wr on that side in man and that is the RB.

When a team just doesn't care what you are doing to exploit them and just throwing blitz after blitz, it's going to mess up the run options of RPO but completely expose them to the pass option.

I'll piggyback off this post…

I'll piggyback off this post by saying it is seen as little subtle stuff to many fans because its things like adding RPO options off of plays Harbaugh has already had in the offense. The truth is adding these seemingly little things is going to crush people down the road when the offense is runnung on all cylinders. The arc read with an RPO after the pull is some nasty nasty stuff because when the CB or FS being optioned comes up its a TD play. And like seth said, after Michigan hits a few teams with it the CB or FS being option will effectively just man up with the WR or TE and be run out of the play at least until the qb pulls which is pretty big.

It really feels like the QB…

It really feels like the QB should be reading the split zone with the orbit motion differently. It looks like a modern triple option where the QB should be reading the end first and give to the RB if he doesnt crash. If he does crash it feels like Shea should pull and go into a speed option with the orbit player and then read the force defender to see if he should keep or pitch.

We got a bootlegged copy of…

We got a bootlegged copy of team America world police from an Iraqi and watched it just about everyday for a few weeks while cleaning our weapons after various missions. You would think we would have gotten bored because people in the theatre kept walking in front of the camera throughout the movie and the camera was slightly tilted. But it took us a surprisingly long time to eventually stop watching it.

Well Gattis is bringing it…

Well Gattis is bringing it over from Moorhead and it was run by Bama last year when he was there too. Georgia also ran it with fields a bit too. And the saints run it in the NFL.

Not sure how doing something several other teams do is trying to prove you are smarter than everyone else.

Mtsu basically had to try to…

Mtsu basically had to try to drink and dunk down the field because trying anything that took longer than about 1.5 seconds ended with their QB taking a hit. They don't have the talent to do this to Michigan. The 14 points off short fields was pretty much best case for them.

They were also really outclassed when they were on defense. That's why they just kept running cover 0 despite Michigan doing things to exploit it. They simply had no other choice but blitz 6 all game.

They played very inspired and probably pretty close to their ceiling imo.
