Uphill both ways, I'm sure. At any rate, do you know if the tourney has ever had multiple play-ins in each region? I'm just curious if this idea has already been piloted

What this guy says. Wow, I

What this guy says. Wow, I must be tired today. I'll fix the original post.

Gotta hope for some of both,

Gotta hope for some of both, but Zone left hit it on the nose: no big plays. While exciting, big plays are generally the result of a breakdown on defense (blown coverage, poor pursuit angles, etc) not an incredible offensive play. Likewise, turnovers are usually a poor decision by the QB or failing to hold onto the damn ball.

It'd be nice to see the offense move the ball steadily at times, and the defense force some 3rd and longs and then, you know, not let them get a first down. If there are lots of turnovers or lots of 50 yard plays, that is a bad thing.

Also, of course, the good atmosphere / no injuries thing, kthx.

I'm just waiting

For someone to say that Oberon is "really not that good". And "really, BeerX is much better". Well, future hypothetical person, you could not be more wrong. Can't wait for this season's top-end savoriness.

EDIT: While I was typing this, future hypothetical person became past real person in the form of winterblue75. So, winterblue75, you could not be more wrong.

Agree

OLBs will hold down the contain responsibilities, and Martin will be probably play a 4-tech / B gap. Also, I'd bet big money that they regularly shift Martin inside to a 3 tech and walk somebody up a bandit to help with outside leverage. But that's just like, my opinion man.

If it doesn't have the soothing tones of sigourney weaver, i'm not interested.

I for one, don't particularly

I for one, don't particularly root for MSU. I don't really care one way or the other. If Michigan isn't playing, I usually just hope for an exciting, well-played game regardless of team or sport. That said: for someone who says that you didn't want the state, conference or yourself to be represented by MSU, you spent an awful lot of time saying that we should emulate their childish, temper-tantrum behavior. Just saying...

"You tell 'em I'm coming! And

"You tell 'em I'm coming! And Hell's Coming with me!"

Kurt Russell, Tombstone. Pissed off because The Cowboys killed his brother.

I also hope he means

I also hope he means splinter, but not as in riding the bench. More like becoming a giant rat that is an expert in training ninjas.

EDIT: Dang, not only did you beat me to it, you had a picture. I am fail.

I've been to...

Lambardi's, Grimaldi's, Johns, as well as a number of other hole in the wall places I can't remember. I never got to DiFara's so maybe I missed the #1 joint in city. Like I said, those places were absolutely delicious and I have no complaints about them.

That being said I'd take a pie from Giordano's, Gino's and Lou's in Chicago over any of the places I went to in NYC. Even the next level down of Chicago's Pizza could stand toe to toe with many of the NYC places.

However, it is tough to compare since they're so different. To each his own.

I have to say, I lived in New

I have to say, I lived in New York and Chicago and while Ann Arbor can't hold a candle to either (though that never stopped me from eating it), Chicago style is far superior to NYC in the pizza department. East coasters, neg away!

Does anyone know if Brian

Does anyone know if Brian still post at bucknuts? I had totally forgotten about that until I saw the bucknuts link from the OP, but just checked and it looks like he hasn't posted there in awhile. I thoroughly enjoyed the "michigan thoughts by a michigan fan but written for ohio state fans" perspective. Hiatus, or failed experiment?

You're right, he hasn't done

You're right, he hasn't done anything spectacular yet. What I like about him is he always seems to be solid and consistant. He doesn't make that many glaring errors, and doesn't miss many tackles (although the only one he did miss that I can readily recall turned into a long TD last season).

I guess I like him so much because "solid, and mostly mistake free" was something we sorely missed in the rest of the defensive backfield last year, and he looked comparitively kickass. Regardless, hopefully he steps up this year and starts being the playmaker he ought to be.

I know! How about we have

I know! How about we have someone with hands catch it, and hand it to somebody fast as hell a la Forrest Gump.

O'Neil

What happened to him? He was the most highly touted offensive line recruit on signing day 08', if I remember correctly. Anybody know anything about him?

In the split second between

In the split second between reading the title of this post and the body, I thought the body was going to say "pill". And man, would you have been wrong.

agreed

I really don't think his turnover rate is that bad, statistically. I think what's frustrating for many (or at least myself) is that you can see when he starts to drive out of control and say "uh-oh" three seconds before he attempts the pass that gets picked. That being said, I can deal with a couple of pretty bad turnovers with the effort he puts forth every night. We would be lucky to even be in the NIT discussion if we didn't have Manny this year.

Problem?

I just don't see him winning a bunch for a few years then leaving a "problem". If he comes in, coaches for 5-7 years, nettings us a winning record against OSU, puts us at least in the national title coversation, and nets a couple BCS bowl wins and decides he wants to leave, so be it. The man would have earned it. That is the one thing I never understood about the WVU crazies: RR did a hell of a job turning your program around then moved on to bigger and better things. If he did that here, then went to coach in the NFL or some other powerhouse, I would say "Hey, thanks for being awesome" and send him on his way.

Boom!

Um...

You sound like kind of an angry person, chill out.

A) I started with DBs because there is so much QB talk (and offense talk in general) right now that I'm kind of saturated with it. Thought people might want to hear about something else, and i definitely wanted to write about something else. However, I will get to your precious QBs and OL. I thought I made it clear that this would be a series of diary entries when I said "series of diaries".

B) I'm pretty sure our last Heisman winner was a DB. Some dude that played in the late 90s, check it out!

C) DBs are a huge question mark. Seeing as they were a big part of the mess that was last year, I thought I might try to put a positive spin on the future so that I could, you know, look forward to the season.

Thanks

Appreciate the suggestions. Hopefully it's not blatantly stealing MGoBrian's season preview. It's not meant to, before spring and summer workouts and the press conferences that go with them, there really isn't enough info to have an accurate picture, so these are definitely more of the "wild ass guess" variety than actually making any salient and relevent points. Also, Brian's will be prettier and much more well-written, not to mention better researched with more insights. This is just something fun to kill the time for me. If the commenting public overall thinks it's too much thievery, I'll just make this the only one.

Also, I'm just kind of curious to see how much my own perceptions change between now and the season, when I'll inevitably have talked myself into believing that we can compete for the Big 10 title. So, it's a record... a diary, if you will, of my thoughts that I can look back on and say "wow, I actually had reasonable expectations at one point".

thanks

Good analysis. I was hoping you'd comment, I've been reading your bubble news posts. Good stuff.

Yeah

Hard to disagree, other than my not-really-justified gut feeling that iowa played above their heads for much of last season. The Iowa and ND games are two that I am least confident in my predictions, hence those being the games I chose to potentially pickup an extra win or loss

EDIT: Meant for above comment about counting ND as a loss and Iowa as a win. I'm retarded with the typing today.

Nice work

This is why this site is awesome. I doubt there is a better preview for an M wrestling match to be found anywhere else on the interwebs, and definitely not in the MSM. Very nice.

Hayden Epstein

He had a helluva leg. I've always loved M football, but my full-blown obsession has only been for the last 5 or 6 years, so maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but seems like he would boom kickoffs through the endzone pretty much every time to help us win the field position battle, and I think he was none to shabby at FGs too
