Paid administrative leave coming right up!

Love excusing abusive…

Love excusing abusive behavior as "kids being soft". There is no excuse for acting that way toward children, especially children who undoubtedly look up to Marshawn as a role model.

You say "let the kids cry until they realize..." as if showing emotion is a weakness. We wonder why as a society we have such a problem with male violence-- creating a concept of masculinity where showing emotion is weakness is a problem.

You also leave us some food for thought with the "guys like Lynch who pulled themselves up from nothing by being mentally and physically tough" comment. I wonder if we had a more equal and less brutal socioeconomic system, guys like Lynch wouldn't have to model and engage in toxic and damaging behavior not only to themselves, but others as well.

She's pretty spot on-- the response by most here seem to be lots of feelings getting hurt and not too many good arguments to counter her piece.

It's interesting to have her frame it in the way she did, I like most have always parroted the "Beilein is a good man" and left it at that without further examination. I think the crux of what the author poses is whether or not running a 'clean' program is actually a noble thing when the way labor is set up under the NCAA is inherently exploitative, along with the arbitrary year basketball athletes have to wait in order to get paid the money their labor is actually worth. People like John Beilein who play by the rules yet become millionaires on the backs of their athletes unpaid at worst to underpaid at best labor should be at the vanguard of fighting for a fairer system to the athletes.

Getting tuition, room and board etc pales in comparison to the millions some of these kids should be making if they were able to actually participate in the 'free market' which so many of us Americans seem to be so fond of.

And the award for most…

And the award for most sanctimonious and out of touch post goes tooooo: MaizeandBlueWahoo! Come on down and claim your trophy for having the worst take on this issue!

Im honestly not sure if you’re trolling or not by saying something as patently absurd as “never having to really work for a living” with regard to a potential professional athlete. What reality are you living in?

Awesome! I've been in Eugene…

Awesome! I've been in Eugene going on a year now-- looking forward to seeing the boys! Will definitely try and make the Football game at Udub in 2020 as well.

It's been easy rivalry-wise living in the PNW as I haven't run into any sparties or buckeyes to talk shit about the past couple month's events...

I believe Brian actually did a profiles in heroism post on Tedford when we were looking for a coach post RR— I’m somewhat curious how that would have turned out in the alternate universe where we hired him instead of Hoke... maybe Hoke would have been the Dline coach and the fan base would have been appeased

Paging Shawn to chime in on this one-- can we just ban the guy already? The last week of this board has been a hellscape with all the hawt takes of negativity

Barstool is trash-- it isn't…

Barstool is trash-- it isn't remotely edgy or funny. It's a juvenile place where man-children can go revel in a mix of misogyny and bro culture that can only come from privilege and a lack of self-awareness.

Portnoy seems to have knowingly cornered the market on this demographic with his shtick while playing dumb when anyone attempts to discuss the toxicity of the barstool fanbase. He's a gross opportunist that should be called out by the Michigan fanbase for the shit he peddles.

Didn't know we had two Brazdeikis' on the team-- 8th string ESPN 3 announcer introduced him as "Izzy"

I always listen to the radio while watching TV, so his misidentification of players isn’t a big deal— either way he usually corrects himself shortly afterward.

I don’t think anyone would say he’s anywhere near a good pbp guy, but as others have said I really don’t care. I actually really enjoy the banter he and Dierdorf have, they make me laugh out loud quite a few times during each game— whether it’s the lame jokes or the offensive linemen banter about crushing the opposing defense.

His pbp in no way makes the game experience any worse for me (the tv broadcasters always annoy me to no end), but I’d be fine with them bringing in a solid pbp guy and moving to a three man booth. I think that would assuage most complaints and could be a fun dynamic.

This is such a gross game

This is such a gross game-- MSU getting bailout penalties and PSU falling flat on their faces in high leverage situations

Bat 17 or World of Beer for bars in downtown Evanston. Food is pretty epic size-wise at Bat and they always have a lot of awesome beers on tap. If you're visiting from out of town definitely get something by 3 Floyds since they're only readily available in the Chicagoland area and Indiana.

Western/Syracuse is turning into a pretty exciting game-- Syracuse QB should have about 3 personal fouls by now...

State always looks like ass in their first game, I'll start getting excited when we start beating them regularly again... hopefully starting this year.

It's relevant what the Duke

It's relevant what the Duke players do because their lives weren't ruined by being falsely accused-- that in spite of the media rushing to judgement, their lives have turned out more than fine. They have jobs that are highly sought after and also received millions of dollars each in settlements.

It's relevant because it supports a false narrative that men are being harmed due to false accusations by women. Some posts in this thead itself are an example of that narrative. Why was it brought up in the first place if it weren't a narrative? It's brought up the majority of the time a man of note is accused of having committed sexual misconduct toward a woman.

I agree that allegations are not facts-- yet there exists a huge double standard in our soceity. On one hand we say we can't rush to judgement on men who have been accused. On the other hand we see ourselves constantly rushing to allege that women are lying or exaggerating or have some ulterior motive to try and ruin the man's life when it simply doesn't happen very often. I'm still waiting to hear these examples of men who's lives have been ruined by being falsely accused.

I'm also glad you brought up the mental health aspect. I'm sure the Duke lacrosse players experienced mental trauma. I'm sure it took plenty of time for them to work through that mental trauma, if they did at all. My gripe is again here is the same double standard. Women not only have to suffer trauma disproportionally from being the victims of sex crimes, but also have to suffer being shamed and accused of lying way too often in the public discourse.

The point is that by playing into this narrative, it minimizes the acutal victims of sexual assault and uses false equivalence to act like men are victims too, when in the majority of cases they are not.

Why does the Duke Lacrosse

Why does the Duke Lacrosse case get help up as an example of men's lives being ruined by false accusation when it's not true? Of the three guys involved in the case, one is a lawyer and the other two work in finance. I'd hardly say that outcome has ruined their lives.

Who are these men that have had their lives ruined by false accusations of sexual assault?

Also, why does this narrative always pop up in one of these discussions? That men are so in danger of having their lives ruined over false accusations.

Seems like there'd be a lot of fun people to hang out with in hell-- I wouldn't be complaning.

I'm happy for Carolina Blue though, it must be hard to choose the correct religion after taking the time to survey the thousands that have existed in human history. The guy really put his work in.

"You told me that I've never

"You told me that I've never had to experience or deal with sexism"

Give me the quote of where I said exactly that. I'll save you the time, I didn't. I never said you've never had to experience or deal with sexism. It's a matter of degrees. The degree to which women experience sexism is greater than what men experience, and what you have experienced. I'm really sorry that you experienced sexism in the military. That's one instance in your life. You seem to be really upset over it, since you're commenting and replying up and down this thread to me and a ton of other people.

Imagine how upset one would be if they not only experienced sexism once in their life, but daily. I'm not saying that this is the only time you've experienced sexism, but you have to come to grips with the fact that you're mad that you experienced injustice, but yet on the other hand not seeing what the big deal is when a woman wants to let her thoughts be known in regard to sexism she has experienced. You dismissed it, and that was wrong.

As far as your logic, I put no words in your mouth. I originally used the hypothetical of substituting football players in for women in your logical system, showing how ridiculous it was and is. That stands alone. If you can't see the failings of how you used logic in that situation, then I really can't help.

I'll leave it at this, I am honestly sorry that you experienced sexism in the military, and I am sorry if I've come across as an asshole in my replies. I'm done replying to this thread as it's getting too bogged down, but if you would actually like to continue the conversation, I'll leave my email address here: [email protected] I think perhaps in a different medium this dialougue might be more fruitful.

"literally has nothing to do

"literally has nothing to do with the discussion at hand"

Actually it has everything to do with the discussion at hand. You keep avoiding my critiques of your faulty logic. You ignored my entire critique of how terrible your initial logic was, and now you're completely changing the subject.

Let me once again throw your bogus logic back at you once again, using your own situation:

1) You claim that women are getting promoted over men who are more qualified, and that for some reason justifies the vitriol with which you push back against any claim of sexism.

2) You claim that your experience here, as a person in a military program, gives you special relevant knowledge about the situation that no one else could possibly have or have a different take on.

Look, arguments aside, I understand that from your point of view, it can't seem right for unqualified women to be promoted over qualified men, and if that were the case, in a perfect world, I would be with you in agreeing that it is wrong. The fact of the matter is that you are ignoring the entire history of our society, as well as countless things that go on on a daily basis, to gripe about this experience you had.

You said in this very thread you are the exact opposite of a snowflake. You sure do sound like one here. You're saying that you're special, and your special take from your special experience proves definitively you are right. You are engaging in the very same behavior that you loathe.

Papabearblue, I'm not talking Papabearblue, I'm not talking about gender. Gender and sex are different things. Sex is male or female. Gender is the socially constructed identities of masculine and feminine traits. That there are men and women is a fact. That women experience more sexism than men is a fact. That men don't have to ever think about the stuff women go through on a daily basis is a fact. I can give plenty of examples, and I'm sure women can give countless more. Here's an idea, how about you ask a woman what she thinks about the difference in how she is treated in life and how she sees men being treated in life. Better yet, how about you ask multiple women. How about when they are talking to you about this, you listen instead of dismissing them out of hand. You are the one who isn't dealing with facts. You're dealing with being a man who has been lucky enough to have never contemplated or come to understand the difference between how men are treated by men, and how women are treated by men.
Papabearblue, your logic Papabearblue, your logic dictates that we shouldn't pay any special attention to the people to which the thing is happening... Let's apply that to another situation. Football players are concerned about concussions. Your logic: 1. Football players say that everyone will deny that concussions are a problem. 2. Football players claim their experience playing football and getting concussions gives them special and revelvant knowledge about the situation, which I, Papabearblue, find ridiculous. As a person who has neither played football nor gotten a concussion, I feel that I know just as much and they can't have any more insights than I could have. That is so ridiculous. If you are not a woman , you do not understand what it feels like to be a woman. You do not go through the same things that women go through on a daily basis. The fact that you are dismissing this outright shows that you have not thought about this in any critical way. This is not to say that women are always right or we (Men) are automatically the bad guys. Instead of arguing in a completely non rational non logical way, how about you just think for a second and try to put yourself in someone else's shoes, realizing that maybe, just maybe, not everyone is trying to lie or gain sympathy just because they can. Rather, there are real problems that effect real people and we need to address them in a constructive way.
And just like that, And just like that, Papabearblue proved her point. Way to use quotes to completely misconstrue what she was saying

Did the show ever name

Did the show ever name Rhaegar and Elia's kids? I guess Lyanna could have known that Ser Gregor already killed the first Aegon, but it still seems weird for Jon's name to be Aegon-- I thought Lyanna said Aemon first, and that would have made much more sense

She just mentioned "prince

She just mentioned "prince ragger" got an annulment and had a secret wedding in Dorne, she didn't mention Lyanna

It doesn't mean anything to

It doesn't mean anything to Sam in the moment, but he was listening/will remember since he repeats the number of steps Gilly was talking about. I'd imagine when Sam gets back to Winterfell/the wall Bran or someone will bring it up and Sam will confirm it-- since he gave that book to little Sam before they left the Citadel.

I'm curious how many show watchers completely missed that huge line of dialogue

It's gonna suck if Tormund

It's gonna suck if Tormund dies without ever professing his love for Brienne...

What is hype may never die!

What is hype may never die! Holy shit so hyped for Jon and his all star raiding party to kick some ass!

Also the definitive R+L=J reveal by Gilly was awesome-- with Rhaegar and Lyanna actually being married, Jon has a better claim to the throne than Dany.. not that he's gonna want it.

Gendry with Robert's hammer is too awesome as well! Other interesting tidbit is that Robert killed Rhaegar at the Battle of the Trident, so who knows if/when Jon finds out his parentage I wonder if he and Gendry will ever talk about that with their newfound bromance

Is it a big surprise that Is it a big surprise that people would be less stoked about Trump being an honorary captain? I don't care for either individual as a politician but I mean c'mon- Trump isn't exactly a wildly popular politician by any metric.
