Stauskas and Levert

It wasn't a bad article and he might not be completely off about Michigan in the long run. His reasoning though is very negative and what rubs me the wrong way. A preview of Michigan this year without mentioning Stauskas and Levert should be ignored completely. Yes lossing Trey and Tim will hurt, but that team also had 5  freshmen play (3 starters) that played meaningful minutes. Sophomores aren't that young in College Basketball especially not when they are gifted as GR3 and McGary. The team is going to use 3 starters, 2 highly rated freshmen and 2 guys that proved they can compete at an elite level to replace 2 players.

With that said, a Sweet 16 exit and a 3rd place finish in the Big Ten is about right for this team and shouldn't be considered under acheiving for a team predicted to finish 2nd in the coference as labeled as the 9th best team.

His Dream

Most likely his Dream was always to play in the NBA. Yes winning a national championship is important but for all these kids playing in the NBA is the ultimate goal.

Also there is a HUGE difference between having money and EARNING money. Especially being a JR, it is likely that he wanted to start building his own life, legacy, career, etc instead of just having stuff because he is Tim Hardaway's kid.

Rose was cleared to play in Rose was cleared to play in February he just chose not to play. His team of handlers especially brother Reggie, did not allow a return to prevent any sort of set back.
Really?

I think people are over valuing the player contribution to their University and under estimating the value of the University. These players especially the Denards, Johnny Football and Tebows are the Cast of the Jersey Shore while MTV is the Universities. Without MTV, the cast can't make it in showbiz which is why the Network profits and the cast gets paid very little. The cast thinks they are worth more than they are and they fail at every other acting gig they get. The same happens to these college stars. They are being loved because of who they play for and who is showcasing their talents, not because of them. I dedicated just as much time to watch Nick Sheridan as I did to watch Denard.

Now sure some will go and make it to the NFL, but it was the NCAA that trained, developed, coached and prepared them for that career. They didn't pay for training, they didn't pay for meals and supplement, they didn't pay for equipment. The University provides the kids with everything to succeed in the sport that they love. The value for that I'm sure is a lot more than $400K. The ones that are really talented enough to suceed in Football, like Lewan, will get paid and play for a long time. The ones that are talented college players like Denard will get their chance and get a nice initial contract because what they did in college and what the university provided for them.

And like others have said, if you do like it go play to Canada or Europe. Sign up for the AFL or the DLeague. There are other options, but we all know that the University provides the best option for the kids. If not read up on Jeremy Tyler and tell me who was better set up to succeed in basketball him or a Manny Harris even though Tyler was a much higher rated player.

WOW

This is absoluetly horrible. I'm a huge Dave Brandon supporter but this is just flat out greedy. You promised the kids tickets, you better provide them tickets. Let them sit in the upperbowl. I mean not providing a seat to 33% of the people that paid for one is a crime. Not allowing a student to attend the Michgan State game they paid for, just because they couldn't attend a Wednesday Night game on a school night. That is just wrong.

As an Alum, I am very disappointed and saddened.

Larger Picture

This isn't just a Michigan problem, thi sis something that is happening trhough football in general. Both NFL and NCAA and there are several reasons for lack of attendence.

  1. The TV expierence has improved so much that it is getting more and more enjoyable to watch the game from home and with friends that at the stadium.
  2. Ticket Prices are way too high right now. The Ticket price and taxes basically put you at around $100 per game. Now include parking, traveling, etc and you are paying a large fee to attend these games. The game day expierence isn't improving witht he increase in price so fans aren't showing.
  3. The scheduel needs to be improved. Next year, I doubt I attend any games at the Big House. With there being a playoff system in place, hopefully conference championships matter more than 1 or 2 losses. This means that we should be able to schedule better teams.

Alumni

And how many of the those season ticket holder are Alumni that made 8 tuition payments? Be real, students get tickets at a very deep discount. They took the tickets for granted so changes were made to make kids show up early.

Price

If tickets only cost me $25 and I was able to get season tickets at that price without any waitlist or donations, then I will be all for General Admissions. Until then, I think the most loyal and financially supportive Alumni will continue to get the best seats.

DOOM

Not at the 5 year mark, but I vividly remember August 2010 and Doom. JT Turner was off the team, Warren went to the NFL, Cissoko was kicked off the team, Demar Dorsey and Adrian Witty never made it on campus, and then our Senior captian goes down with an ankle injury. I felt so hopeless after that injury. We still managed a respectful 7 wins that season and thankful Hoke has been able to turn around the defense, but at that moment our future was as dark as I have ever imagined it. Hope in RR was gone, the defense was horrible, and we had yet to see Denard Robinson start a game.

He has to go

If offered he has to go and we should happy for him. This is college basketball, not the NBA. The only real constant is the Head Coach and even that is questionable at times. Assistants are young and the pay increase from assistant to head coach can not be turned down, especially at your Alma Matter. If he accepts, all we can do is wish him luck and realize that he is doing what is best for himself.

People are Free

For everyone complaining about people not liking Trey's tat just remember. People are free to get tattoos, but just know that people are also free judge you for them. You can express yourself however you want, but people can also formulate whatever opinon they want of you as well.

They assign for you

You don't get to pick, but I've gone through the process 3 times now and the seats are typically around section 15 rows 10-30.

I just got the email as well

I just got the email as well and quickly purchased tickets to see CMU and Ohio. Can't wait for kick off. Go Blue!

Player in the Air

I think the charge call needs to get adjusted as well. I would change it where a charge can not be called if a player is off the ground and makes contact wih the lower part of his body, regardless of the postion of the defensive player.

If the offensive player jumps over you, I'm ok with that. There will be contact but it should be a no call. Now if the Defensive player is set and gets run into, pushed out of the way, etc then it is a clear offensive foul. The issue with me is people sliding over and creating a bang bang play. Craft was still moving his feet and body while the Iowa State player had already made a clear move to the basket. Craft just undercut him and never made a play to stop the ball. If Craft had gotten there on time he would have gotten run over, instead he made contact with a player mid air.

Elite 8

Elite 8 would make this a great season and a step in the right  direction for our staff. We haven't gotten out of the first weekend in a long time. That alone though will be a disappointment. An Elite Eight will be a good season given our talent level and how far away we were when JB took over.

JJ Reddick is a 10X the

JJ Reddick is a 10X the player that Stauskas is. Don't get me wrong, Stauskas is a great player and I do think he will play in the NBA. But JJ is a better shooter, had better handles, more of a leader and just a winner. The guy was the all time leading scorer in the ACC and is the all time leading scorer in a season and a career at Duke.

Stauskas is has been great for us and I love that he is on our team. But let's ease up on the expectiations.

I don't get some fans

I really don't get the hate for the Fab Five, especially for Jalen saying he wants to get the guys together to cheer on the team they all played for. I hope Glen Rice is saying the same thing to the 89 team, I hope Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims are talking about it, I hope Jammal Crawford is thinking about, I hope Daniel Horton and Courtney Sims are looking to book flights to Atlanta. They put on the Maize and Blue and love the team just like we do. There is nothing wrong with them trying to ge togher to watch the best team we have had since the 92/93 season.

Also, I really don't get why the Fab Five is looked at as cheaters. If I am correct, Michigan never payed them to play here, right? Did they take money to alter the vegas line? They never took banned substances. They never filmed other teams practices to get an edge.  They didn't cheat. What they did on the court, they worked hard for and they earned those back to back Final Fours. Yes, they took money that was given to them. But from everything I read, that money was not given to them to play for Michigan.

More than a shooter

Everything that I have read about this kid is that he is a pure shooter. From that video, he seemed to fell extremely confident driving the ball as well. From all accounts he is an elite level shooter, which is always a huge plus on a Beilien team, and it is a plus to see him developing his game and becoming an all around scorer. I love what Beilien is doing and I expect him and Walton to be key contributors on our team next year.

GRIII's Production

Robinson actually has been a very productive player in my opinoin and has showcased a lot of talent and skill to go along side his potential and NBA body. The reason he isn't putting up 15+ points a game is because coaches never draw up a play for him to score the ball. As people have mentioned, he is scoring 11ppg with hustle points such as running the break, grabbing offensive rebounds, hitting open threes. The team is loaded and Hardway and Burke know the offense so they are the first option. Stauskas is a natural in the Beilein offense  so he fits in easily.  As the year progesses Glen and Mitch will become much more involved in the offense. More plays will be drawn for them to be the first option and he will show why he is being projected to be 15th overall in the draft if not higher.

It all matters,

I got into Michigan with a 24 on my ACT. However I had a 3.9 (non weighted) GPA in HS, I was Student Council VP, in charge of the Senior Retreat and involved in sports. A 27 won't get you turned away from Michigan. If you are well balanced through out your application you should be fine. Just make sure you get involved with as many extra curriculars as you can, become friendly with teachers that you will ask recommendations for and constantly improve upon your essay.

I had several friends that worked at Michigan's admission's office and they all told me that they looked for well-rounded students that would create a unique student body. Of course the 4.0 GPAs and 36ACT kids will get into Michigan, but the admission’s office wants a diverse group of kids in order to create a unique and well rounded student body. After all, in college, you will learn as much from your friends and classmates as you will from your professors.
