Or was it, you know, more figuratively tossing money?  He seems like an idiot, so maybe it was indeed literally tossing millions away. Either way, at least I'm not a Lions fan.

1 week 5 days ago	I'm not a life coach	But I suggest not losing your job and blowing all your money on your smack addiction.   Then again, there's something to be said for knowing what makes you happy in life.  As former Man U superstar George Best supposedly said to a reporter who asked him how he lost his entire fortune after being Europe's highest paid footballer, Best replied, "I spent half of it on fast cars, fast women, and booze.  The other half I just wasted."
1 week 5 days ago	Don't know about the Med School	But the law school's been getting major largesse lately from Warren Buffett's sidekick at Berkshire, UM alumnus Charlie Munger. He gave $3 million just for... wait for it... lights in the UMLS reading room.   Granted, that's a lot of light bulbs, but still.  He gave another $20 million for upgrades to the Lawyer's Club residences.  I'd imagine when the day comes to execute his will, UMLS might just end up being named the Munger School of Law. That might take a nine-figure gift, but seems possible.

4 weeks 1 day ago	I'm sympathetic to the authorities	but it would always be easier to shut a city down every time there's an serious emergency, and this is the first time I've ever heard of something like this.  I may very well be forgetting, but most similar examples of bombers on the loose are Atlanta '96 (Olympics), NYC '93 (first WTC), Oklahoma City '95 (not for long, but for a while), Seattle '11 (the dude who tried to bomb the MLK parade-- can't remember when they caught him-- might have been Spokane?).  And there have been some serious killers running loose for a day many other times in other cities.   It's a little like negotiating or paying a ransom to hostage-takers: if it's your family member, you do it, but from a cold rational perspective, you know it's encouraging the next guy.

4 weeks 2 days ago	first of all	those are very thoughtful comments as rants go.  But there really is something to be said for moving on quickly; I thought it was a terrible mistake for Boston to have essentially surrendered  by shutting down the entire city for a day and sending the message that a 19-year old hiding in the bushes (or boat) with a couple of kitchen-made IEDs and a handgun could bring an American city to its knees so easily.    To my mind, that suggests a tempting reward for others of a similar chaotic bent. We're already largely immune to murders that don't have such a theatrical narrative, even on a large scale.  There are roughly 15,000 murders per year in this country, and the victims are usually just as innocent as the marathon victims.  If someone steps into an office and shoots 5 people dead tomorrow in Topeka, Kansas, it won't be ignored, but it probably won't be the lead story on the national news, either.  That's where we are, and if that's too dark a place, the other extreme of total paralysis would seem to be equally off the mark.  The Brits during the Blitz (of "Keep Calm and Carry On" fame) were remarkable in trying to maintain normalcy in-between raids; the Israelis are as good as any people in the world at shrugging off attacks without capitulating to the fear.  I think they've got the right idea.  When you move on, you send a message to would-be attackers: we're not going to freak out, so don't get it in your head that you're going to make our society stop in it's tracks.  It shouldn't slide into callousness, though, totally agree.  You can do both: move on, and be compassionate.  The victims aren't numbers, they're human beings with stories and families, and that goes for innocents here, there, and everywhere. For me, moving on usually means a visit to this site, my personal great escape.  Plan B is usually Wolverine Historian vids on YouTube, usually wins over Ohio.

This is a much better solution than trying to balance it out.  Programs rise and fall, but we'll be on the same level of difficulty as Ohio regardless.  All we wanted was an even chance, and this is it. Leaders and Legends, we hardly knew ye.  Actually, I didn't know ye at all.  I deliberately forced myself from remembering which was which, and my stubborn obstinancy has been validated. Cheers, obstinancy!

What a world.  This is why I need Michigan sports as therapy.
4 weeks 3 days ago	Jeebus	I'm just waking up in California to all this news... holy crap!  Wait, so I'm trying to follow the mind of international terrorists... you have 72 hours after a bombing to get to a safe house in Prague, Bolivia, Sana, Lagos, London, or wherever.  Instead you stay in greater Boston. Then, with your pictures out on the airwaves and the entire world looking for you, you decide to head out at 10pm to rob a 7-11 and jack a Mercedes. What, were they out of smokes or something?  This sounds less like sophisticated international terrorists and more like thugs gone wild.  I'm glad one of them is on the run and not dead-- his last few hours will be spent in total fear.  This is a good morning.

We saw the highest level, and lo, it was mighty.  Maybe there exists a higher level of college basketball, but not on this planet.  Good luck, #3, you've flat run out of things to prove as an individual player.

Actually thought they played better tonight in many ways than against Florida.  What a ride this season has been.  Yes, there is such a thing as a noble defeat, and this was it.  Phenomenal effort against a great opponent playing at an incredibly high level and getting the lion's share of breaks.   Great representation of Michigan.   Go Blue

6 weeks 1 day ago	Just to clarify the record slightly	The main CBS postgame show analyst (the gray-haired guy, don't remember his name) thought it was clearly a charge, so it's not like Dickie V against the world here.  It was a 50/50 call when you slowed it down, but at full speed, both in-game announcers thought charge, and that's the only view the ref got. As 20 people have mentioned, it seemed to balance out.  If I were a Syracuse fan, I'd have been more pissed about the 4th foul on MCW.   I have 5 new gray hairs tonight.  One for each consecutive free throw miss by Michigan in the final 2:00.
