Always lined up for that every time I attended a game and quickly became one of my favorite parts of gameday.

You call yourself a salesman you sonofabitch?

|2 days 8 hours ago||This is where I think the whole thing is gonna land.||
The schools give up their rights to interfere with students' economic freedom (i.e., right to contract for compensation with private parties) and that's that. Players who can sign endorsement deals proceed to do so, those who can't, don't.

shouldn't the coaching staffs be comprised strictly of other students? Grad assistants who receive their stipend and nothing else? Their coaching would be considered apprenticeships and every few years you'd have a complete turnover in staff as the students graduated and moved on. Or go to the high school model... coaches only come from the faculty and have to balance coaching with their academic responsibilities, which would set a good example for those student-athletes we're trying so hard to keep pure.

and can in fact receive more if the research leads to patent royalties, which are often also shared with faculty who are named inventors on patents. I knew several grad students who received significant checks for their share of patent royalties sometimes years after they graduated.

Very slick, professional editing. Nice work.
I don't know if I'd call it hype video as much as a period piece. It captures the mood of the fanbase right now: highly frustrated, still hopeful, still proud of who we are.

It's got no grapes and no nuts. WTF?

Good man, great motivator. Probably would have won 1-2 Super Bowls if he didn't happen to play in the same division as maybe the greatest NFL dynasty ever in the 70s Steelers.
As far as active coaches...
Dick LeBeau, Hall of Fame Lions DB and longtime Steelers DC. His innovative defenses set the standard in the NFL for a couple of decades. I choose to not recognize the fact he played for Woody Hayes.

what's your seating policy? Do my friends and I have to enter your living room at the same time to sit together?
|1 week 4 days ago||This reminds me why I need sports||
because the real world is 100% appalling to me. I can't wrap my mind around deliberately murdering civilians (and don't want to) so I'd rather spend my days stressing about things like 27-for-27 and pretend that's the worst thing ever.
Head, meet sand. Sand, meet head. Jeebus.

Yo Momma says you ugly.

I got to the quote box from Scout, saw "plays with good pad level," and stopped reading.

$845,000. Endzone (of Domino's Pizza Michigan Stadium).

you may as well admit to stuffing said jockstrap with Adidas Shockwave socks.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||That's a great question.||
I suspect you can't get away with it to the same extent. Saban's really an outlier, maybe his reputation is so strong that he's able to bring those guys in regardless, the way Bobby Knight used to convince top players to go to Bloomington to get heaps of abuse at practice every day. Maybe they just knew they'd get turned into superb, fundamentally polished players, and that made the whole thing worth it. I don't know.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I agree, but would rephrase||
to "Denard covered up the total absence of holes his senior year", amirite?
|2 weeks 3 days ago||I think they'll be excellent, too||
but if I have one worry, ironically it would be Jake MF Ryan. I think I'm just allergic to the act of taking a player who is wildly successful at one position and moving him into a new position he's never played-- it just screams "Marlin Jackson to safety" to me.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Been thinking about Bo lately.||
I never thought Bo was any kind of football tactician to speak of in terms of schemes and innovation. But man, was he brilliant at imprinting the fire and discipline so characteristic of his personality onto the young men he coached. I once heard an ex-player describe that you hated him as a freshman, accepted him as a sophomore, respected him as a junior, and loved him as a senior.
I wonder if this is how he was able to bring in high-level recruits yet avoid the "entitlement" problem that sometimes comes with top-shelf talent-- and why our post-Bo history seems to have been so frequently characterized by doing less with more.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||Intriguing.||
Big 10 Champions are statistically good at football. These ideas are new to me and I wish to subscribe to the ESPN newsletter.
What I'd really like to see is an anthology of how many times on these boards we heard some variation of "a spread offense can't work in the Big 10." It seems, shockingly, you can run a spread and still run, play defense, control the clock, limit turnovers, etc. If you can control the line of scrimmage, you can make any system work. The OL, the OL, the OL.
Also, the Team. I'm excited about it. I think they're going to exceed expectations, which are appropriately modest, and the OL will be average, which will also exceed expectations.

There are over 7 billion people on the planet. This suggests having children and raising them into adulthood isn't rocket science. Pull the nails out of your palms and climb off the cross for a while.

That is all.
But seriously, thanks for the link.

|2 weeks 4 days ago||What the fuck are you even talking about?||
I'm assuming this is a drunken post, because no one was talking about "emotionally devastating" penalty kicks. Jeebus, man, dry out and come back when that's happened, then try contributing something.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Just curious...||
but how does having 4 children and 7 grandchildren make you in any way "exceptional?" (unless you live in China)?
|2 weeks 5 days ago||This is certainly NOT the only way to do it.||
Soccer is 99% passing, dribbling, and tackling. So make the tiebreak something that involves those things instead of just shooting, which is like deciding an NBA game with a free throw contest at the end.
Such as... two players from Team A get the ball at the top of the box. Team B has a goalie and 2 defenders. If Team B puts the ball out of bounds or keeper gets possession, Team B wins. Team A has to put the ball in the net to win. Switch sides and repeat until one side gets a goal and the other doesn't.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||OK, now that Brazil got that last one||
NOW it's like Michigan's 34-8 '97 win over PSU on "Judgment Day." We were up 34-0 and I remember how pissed I was that PSU got on the board at the very end to screw up the masterpiece. Anyway, that final score probably doesn't scale to 7-1. Maybe if we'd won 70-8.
The bizarre thing about this to me is that I always thought you could just go down to any street corner in Brazil, pick out the first 11 Brazillians you see, put jerseys on them and you'll have a team that can compete. Kinda like I thought you could just put Michigan uniforms on 5 300-lb. dudes and have them block for positive rushing yards. I learned otherwise recently.
