Through grad school, law school, working late nights at a firm, and then when I finally got a job with more normal hours, after literally a lifetime of wanting my own dog, I finally got one. I found him at an adoption event. I could write a very, very long post about how much this big goofy guy (mix of black lab and Newfoundland) adds to my life, but suffice to say it's the smartest thing I've ever done.
My S.O. and I both work, but my hours aren't terrible, and I use doggie day care 3-5x per week and swing by the house on the other days to take him out at lunch. He had health problems when I adopted, so between that, daycare, food (he's 100+ lbs), etc., it's expensive. And time consuming. And makes travel harder. But life without this dog would be unimaginable.
Just to reiterate what almost everyone else is saying-- adopt. The number I heard is 6 million plus dogs every year in the US getting put to sleep. That's nothing but human stupidity and callousness.
|1 day 4 hours ago||Upvoted because of the comment on genetics||
This point just does not get made enough. "Purebred" is a euphemism for "unbelievably inbred," and genetic defects are the price animals pay for human insistence on particular physical traits. The dog-production industry continues to crank out genetic mutants, and people continue to buy them to encourage more of the same. It's a miserable fucking industry.

So I don't know, I don't feel that bad. I was ready to bitch about bagmen and corrupt college sports rabble rabble rabble.
Berkeley is an awesome place, gorgeous weather, the SF Bay area is one of the most desirable places in the US to live (maybe you'd rather be accessible to Detroit, so to each their own, but most people given a choice would rather hang in SF), and the school is considered the top "Public Ivy" (though budget cuts to the UC system have been savage, that matters less if you're not paying tuition). Surprised folks are having this much trouble understanding why a kid might want to go to school there for a couple of years playing on a team without Michigan's depth,esp. at wing.
Good luck to the kid, and Michigan is in great shape with kids who know the system.

I'm disappointed for him, he was turning into a solid contributor, especially at those times we absolutely needed an offensive board and a second chance.

to us. What is this "senior year" business? Is this a new NCAA waiver of some sort?

Looks like the "marketplace of ideas" has weighed in on your thoughts, judging by the up/down numbers.
Would everyone's reaction come out the same way if Harbaugh expressed a deeply unpopular sentiment, you know, the kind the 1st amendment and free speech generally is supposed to be there to protect? What if he said he and the team were making a statement for freedom by having each coach and player burn a U.S. flag or piss on some pictures of dead U.S. soldiers, because we can legally do that in America and it symbolizes the kind of speech that actually needs protecting because it's so deeply unpopular? Everyone still come out the same way?
This blog excels when it sticks to sports. Sports-related figures commenting on political issues is not sports. Sports chat is the Maize Brick Road. Bad things happen when we get too far off it.
The only sniper threads I hope to see from here on should be about Stauskas-Aubrey Dawkins-other dudes who can shoot from a distance.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Exactly.||
I don't care where people went to school. I care that they notice subtle but important things that happen on the field and point them out. I think Herbie is pretty good at this, and Spielman is fantastic at it.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||and it was so effing hot in the stadium||
absolutely the hottest game I've ever attended. Got the worst sunburn of my life that day. Remember that almost as much as Hayes' catch on the last play.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||Not inspiring||
but I wasn't looking for inspiring. I was just looking for someone who doesn't make me cry. Apart from that way-ugly interception around the 3:24 mark, I didn't want to weep. He was often getting broken in half just as he delivered the ball, so I give the guy some toughness points. Ball floats but, hey, pretty damn catchable for our receivers who can't handle Shane's fastballs.

It's weirdly better than Rutgers. I like it.
Rutgets, man. Rutgets.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I'll bet Oregon, Tennessee, and TCU||

|3 weeks 6 days ago||He was a proven pathological liar||
Jesse Ventura even won a libel case against him. Yep, proven in court. He even claimed at one point to have shot people from the roof of the Superdome during the post-Katrina chaos. I think the bigger issue is that the guy wasn't the guy portrayed in the movie as having moral qualms about killing people. His book and interviews indicated the opposite: he enjoyed killing people and had no qualms about it whatsoever. It might have been a better movie by relying on a fictional character representing soldiers at large rather than a fantasy about an actual person that bore no resemblance to his real-life persona.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||why do I get the feeling||
your household doesn't care much about people's feelings either.
Good thing America doesn't only belong to you. I kinda think of it as "OUR America," but that's just me.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||RIP, good buddy.||
You know, that Boss Hogg character was played by an accomplished Shakespearean actor named Sorrell Booke with an undergrad from Columbia and an MFA from Yale.
Thus endeth my knowledge of odd Dukes of Hazzard trivia.
|5 weeks 20 min ago||I'm sure you've got a great reason for this...||
... but explain a little to someone who's never seen a post from JO? I thought Austin was recovered well enough to walk around, just not play BB, and I assume he's on campus, so... what was wrong with JO's sentiment? (heheheh, JO).
|5 weeks 21 min ago||Cool.||
I still haven't watched this, I'm embarrassed to say. Gotta get this done, even if my taxes don't get finished this weekend.
|5 weeks 4 hours ago||Here's a perspective from the Iowa side of the ledger||
Overall, it sounds as though the fan base was a little frustrated with him for being so conservative with throwing down the field as opposed to checking down so consistently, but the article also notes the OL should have taken some heat.
OTOH, the Rivals Iowa guy says "on the field, he did exactly what the coaches wanted," which suggests the checkdowns were part of the OC plan.
He sounds like a great kid, by the way. If Harbaugh gets a 3am phone call, he can probably go ahead and think to himself, "welll, it's safe to say this isn't about Jake Rudock."
|7 weeks 1 hour ago||True that. I also remember how successful Urbz was||
with just a game manager in Alex Smith. 12-0 if memory serves.
That's some good game management.
|7 weeks 22 hours ago||I remember watching the '89 opener vs. Notre Dame.||
We were ranked No. 2, ND ranked No. 1. Freshman Elvis comes on for injured starter Michael Taylor and looked like a seasoned vet, bringing UM back from the dead with his accurate passing and calm leadership. ND's offense did nothing all day except convert one turnover deep in our end. Their QB Tony Rice completed one pass all day. But... sonofabitch... yeah, that happened. Twice. ARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHH.
Still hurts, man. Still hurts.

That is so Harbaugh.

Welcome to Michigan. Which Romney son are you again?
|7 weeks 1 day ago||Well that obviously depends||
on whether we are adjusting for inflation. Ages 18-22 are pretty far in my rearview mirror, so... maybe? Those were the days. Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again.
